I get such a kick out of watching you and Ralph! You two make my day...your great recipes and Ralph's funny comments! I look every day to see what you have posted! 🤗
Thanks so much, Sarah! Didn't know about a hummingbird cake until I made this one - good to know what they call it in other parts of the country - it's wonderful!
We'll have to get another bundt pan and do a head-to-head competition with this one and the pistachio pudding cake! Thank you for the recipe and the great video.
Hi Patsy! Others have mentioned a hummingbird cake, too. That's not something we see here in Michigan but when I looked it up they are very similar. I guess this is a Michigan version! Thanks!
Hi,Ralph & Kevin! ❤️ I love that new kitchen studio,Kevin and your antique appliances! I was born in 1972 and my mother always had a new kitchen range every year so I’m fascinated with the design and function of the old 1950s ranges! Can we see some more of your cool old stove collection in another video someday?? Thank you for the great videos and recipes!
Hi Grace Love88! Glad you like the new studio - I love cooking in it! I'll have to try and get some time in the stove area so you can see the collection. Those ranges from the 50's had a lot to offer! Thanks for watching!
Now that’s a cake you want to enjoy at the kitchen table with a big mug of coffee and great company Jaw Jacking about life’s challenges and blessings❤️
Loved seeing the vintage dishware you used for the prep ingredients! Thought this might be the infamous "Tunnel of Fudge" (which I have yet to make myself) - but this looks like a winning recipe in itself. Thanks Kevin, for the great demo - you and Ralph are destined for the Food Network.
Hi MyMike509! Glad you liked the video! Somehow I've accumulated so many single pieces of old dishware over the years that it's fun to use it when I'm able. The recipe for this cake came from a neighbor, but I did make the "Tunnel of Fudge" cake back in May - here's the video: th-cam.com/video/XoUHxe507Dg/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching!
This almost reminds me of a quick bread in a way. Like banana bread or pumpkin bread it' appears to be very moist and dense. You could even make it in a couple bread pans. Or to make it a "Cavalcade Custom", you could use rhubarb instead of pineapple. As always, something comforting and fun to watch each video. Take care!!
Hi Greg! Yes, there are some similarities with banana bread, zucchini bread, and the like. It is a moist cake, and fairly dense. I like the rhubarb idea! The cake is sweet enough that it would balance the tartness of the rhubarb nicely. Thanks!!
Kevin! So excited to try this one! Looks fantastic! I hope Ralph enjoyed it 🥰 I made your peanut butter cookies the other day and they were terrific!!! Wish I could share some with you boys! Also, never mentioned before... but I like the exact taste in music as you and Ralph and really enjoy all the selections for each segment! I also love Peggy Lee and Doris Day 🥰🥰🥰Thank you both so much!!! Hope you are enjoying the summer cottage!!! Sending lots of hugs!
Hi Jeffrey! Glad you like the peanut butter cookies - one of my all-time favorites! We have fun with the music - all of it comes from record albums. I've got a record library at Cavalcade that provides a good variety to choose from, including great singers like Miss Peggy Lee!! Hope you had a great summer!! Can you believe it's almost Labor Day already? Thanks for watching!
Hi Kevin and Ralph ! Thanks for sharing this vintage recipe that I know would be a hit at a family event or to share with neighbors. Remembering neighbors right now during the pandemic is terrific way to stay connected, just as your neighbor did. I have a recipe for "Hummingbird Cake" that is very similar but made in layers. I think I like yours in a bundt much better ! Chip.
Hi Chip! Others have mentioned the Hummingbird Cake and I think there are some similarities. You are so right, especially during this time we have to look in on our neighbors and make sure everyone is doing alright. Hope all is well with you!
Kevin & Ralph, this is a winner! It was really yummy!! If I hadn't frozen some slices for later consumption, it would have been eaten completely in two days. I tweaked the recipe a bit (1/2 cup less white sugar & replaced 1/2 cup of oil with 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce). Great job.
Hi Brenda! So glad you gave the recipe a try and I like your revisions to the recipe - the applesauce added some good moisture. Thanks for watching and letting us know!!
I made this with the recipe here and took Kevin's suggestion to reduce the sugar from 3 to 2 cups. It was delicious. It seems more of a bread than a cake, like banana bread with some pleasant surprises mixed in. True to its name, it was gone quickly. Thanks, guys!
Hello Guys! I am going to make this one for sure! The ingredients shout delicious! I am always happy to see a new video notification from you. I have made a "Banana Bread" with these same, or almost the same, ingredients last year. I liked it so I'm sure I'll like this one too. Ralph, as always it's a pleasure to hear your comments about what Kevin is cooking. Stay well and stay safe up there. Blessings to both of you, along with virtual hugs and blown kisses, from me down here in Georgia! :-)
Hi Princess Skate! Hope you try this one! If you like your banana bread, then you'll like this! Hope all is well with you and you and yours are staying strong and safe in GA! Sending hugs down to you and take good care!
Hi Kevin and Ralph! So I threw one of these together for dessert today... I figured it made sense, since the oven was already pre-heated from the Polish spaghetti I had made for dinner! Boy, am I stuffed! Incidentally, for the spaghetti, I only put in one kielbasa, but I added ground beef to the sauce, and I was pretty happy with how it came out. (Other than that, it was your recipe.) Thanks for all the great ideas and fun videos!
Hi Metal Theologian! Great idea making use of an oven that was already hot!! I like your twist on the Polish spaghetti - sounds great! Glad you like the videos - thanks for watching!
That looks really really good! I've never actually heard of it.But it reminds me of Banana bread.Once again you out that yourself guys! Thanks for the great video .
I’m so excited to find this episode. I am going to try my hand at making a cake and this one looks like it would be something I could handle and a hit! And I love banana bread and this sounds like banana bread next level
Hi John - this is a great cake! It is quite sweet and I have found myself reducing the sugar to two cups instead of three. But it is like a super deluxe banana bread!
Hi Cindy!! LOL!! Yes - I guess we could drizzle a little over the top for good measure! Actually, rum would work beautifully with this cake. When I first tried it, it reminded me a little of a light fruitcake. Thanks for watching!
Humm... This recipe is almost identical to a Hummingbird Cake. (The only thing missing is a pinch of cinnamon.) Southern Living magazine usually gets credit for the recipe. They published it around 1976, but the cake isn't American or Southern at all. Food historians say the recipe came from Jamaica, where it's known as "Doctor Bird Cake."
Hi RD M! Very interesting story on the Hummingbird Cake. Someone else mentioned that cake to me, and we never saw it here in Michigan. However, there is another close variation on this cake that was very popular here called Mexican Wedding Cake. Thanks!
I get such a kick out of watching you and Ralph! You two make my day...your great recipes and Ralph's funny comments! I look every day to see what you have posted! 🤗
Hi Janet - so glad you enjoy the videos! We're glad that you join us in the kitchen! Thanks!
This is going into my oven very soon gents!
Hi Joseph - I hope you get a chance to make it - it's a great cake!
Love you guys and love the kitchen! Down here in the deep south that cake is called a hummingbird cake. It is absolutely delicious.
Hi Fred - that would be a tough competition! Thanks for watching!
Hey Kevin and Ralph. I love all the ingredients in this cake... made me think of a Hummingbird Cake. Stay safe, stay mighty!
Hi Patsy! Others have mentioned a hummingbird cake, too. That's not something we see here in Michigan but when I looked it up they are very similar. I guess this is a Michigan version! Thanks!
I love your new place, your recipes & all of you are fantastic 👏 Thank you.
Thank you so much, Joanna! Appreciate you watching!
What a great recipe! The big band music in the background really adds to the atmosphere.
Thanks - glad you like the recipe...and the music!

I just rounded up the ingredients for this cake! Can’t wait to give it a try! I’ll let you know if it lasts!
Hi Joseph! Let me know how you like the cake and how long it lasts! You can also cut the cake in two and freeze half. Thanks!
The best part is when Kevin savors the cake and describes the flavors. 🙇♂️ Hey, next time I would like to see your vintage fridge and dishwasher.
Hi Gilberto! I'll try to remember to give a closer look to the fridge (1949 GE) and dishwasher (1980 Kitchen Aid). Thanks for watching!
Hi Kevin I do bake a lot of cakes .i will try this cake recipe. Thank you for sharing 😊
Robert
Hi Robert - hope you try the recipe. Thanks!

Thanks so much Yo Girl Ms. Trice! Great hearing from southeast D! Hope you give the recipe a try - so good!
Sounds like hummingbird cake we call it that in the south east
The first thing I thought about. I was going to compare the recipes. You could definitely cook it in a 9x13 and frost it.
Hi Tammy! I've not heard of a hummingbird cake here in Michigan, but I looked it up and it is similar. A very delicious cake! Thanks for watching!

Love your channel by the way and all those beautiful vintage appliances and such
So we get two servings of fruits. My kind of eating
LOL! Yes - two servings - bananas and pineapple! I guess it's a health cake!
Interesting cake
A lot of different flavors going on in this one! Thanks!
How about a glaze using the pineapple juice?
Kathy - that is an excellent idea!!!
Have you tried making it with less sugar? If so, how did it turn out?
👍🌻
Glad you liked it! Thanks!
Definitely need a couple of loaf pans in lieu of bunt pan.
Hi Cyril! Yes, this would fill two loaf pans. You could eat one now and put the other in the freezer. Thanks!
I make a lot of bunt cakes
Hope you give this one a try, Bob!
@@cavalcadeoffood yes I will kevin
Cindy here, looks delicious the only thing missing is the rum LMAO

*Cavalcade of Food* my beats would sound great on your channel 💯🔥🔥🔥 lets collab
I'm always holding my breath when I flop a bunds cake.
Hi Ed! Me too - that's why I always grease the pan good so it all comes out like it's supposed to! I've had my share of broken cakes! Thanks!
We call this recipe Preacher Cake.
Hi Crystal! I've not heard that term used for this cake - thanks!!
