Discomfort comes clearly! Lyrics almost as indiscernible as Stipe and a vocal that grabs the melody and holds on. So much tension, such release, this band was yr life.
So I say Still away Sleep close my eyes An image of Your face Traced in white sand Underneath Undefined I lay down With arms outstreched I embrace the fall And all the time I tried To let you know Discomfort comes clearly Woh (5x) Sometimes you see right through me
Yea he’s singing way different than he normally does it seems lol... especially the chorus he sounds like he has an accent or something just way different tone. Still sounds great
@@ceilingsandfloors what actually happened was before Diary was recorded they went on tour and Jeremy blew out his voice, causing it to sound more broken and scratchy, but by the time they reformed in 97 his voice had healed and he sounded like he did when he was 17-18 again, before he injured his voice. the way he used to belt/scream on Diary and LP2 seemed to be quite demanding and straining on his voice, so he had to change his style anyway for the longevity of his voice. personally I don't think it's really that different, it still sounds totally like him. as he aged his voice naturally got more gruff and scratchy, so it's come full circle in a way.
It's so sad to see what happened to the emo genre. These were just a bunch of normal looking 20 something guys producing music with raw emotion. Now people instantly associate emo music with melodramatic teenagers wearing ridiculous clothes and make up.
they definitely did not look 'normal' at the time. we used to make fun of their tight pants, their 'nerd' glasses, the headbands some of them wore, how they always brought backpacks to shows, how they'd wear their socks pulled all the way up, etc. 'emo kids' definitely looked like they were wearing a silly costume at the time, too, compared to how everyone else dressed at the time. source: i'm in my 30s and saw SDRE live a bunch of times.
all of those guys dressed like big nerds at the time. also there were women everywhere at shows in the 90s? where did you grow up? i'm guessing also florida if you're even mentioning i hate myself. the guys in i hate myself would wear tight button downs all buttoned up, had short haircuts when long hair was popular for men, etc. the 'clean cut' look wasn't what was cool in the 90s, which is my point. the tight t-shirts instead of baggy, the big nerdy glasses, etc. you could spot an emo kid from a mile away.
Its totally come back in the past few years. So much so that its been pegged as "the emo revival" Bands like Sorority Noise, Tigers Jaw, Foxing, Brand New, The Hotelier, Citizen, The Menzingers, Seahaven, Joyce Manor etc. So many 90's emo bands have gotten back together due to the rise in popularity of emo as well. Jawbreaker, American Football, Cap'n Jazz, Boys Life, The Jazz June, The Get Up Kids, Texas is the Reason, Hey Mercedes, Rainer Maria, and Mineral. Its truly a great time to be a fan of emo.
Absolutely, was a toddler when SDRE was still a band so unfortunately I never got to experience the scene back then. Just happy that a new scene has popped up and that I'm able to enjoy it this time around haha.
Thank you for this!!! I rode a bicycle for miles back in 93..bought siamese dream and Diary...
Just saw them tonight. This song was the best 6 minutes I’ve had in a long time. Everything was perfect.

Diary album was the best emo experience before it really exists
The music and the poetry produce such a beautiful dance. We need more of this.

You married to your pain

His voice changed here.

I used to think they changed their singer after their third album. Then I realised he just radically changed his vocal style.
