    It was great to have someone break it out a bit more for us. It can be such a mystery buying something that promises to be a "whole system" but we can't get a look inside to understand it a bit.
    Much appreciated. Feeling much more confident about the purchase now.

    This is by far one of the best explanations of mythic to eat I've seen! Good work. I would like to say two things, one you have the RPG you're playing so lean on those rules as your primary motivation forward, use mystic to e to expand the world to answer questions that RPG doesn't answer and to let the story unfold without you having to think about it all ahead of time. Part of the fun of solo role-playing for me is to see where the story goes and how it unfolds and not to think of everything and then just to see if my character can do them, sort of like an adventure path but more on rails. And finally I don't use the cast factor, I use the optional rule for that. Basically you just use the cash factor at 5:00 through the entire game because I don't like it going up and down it seems to always take control of the game for me instead of me having a more forward thing. Kind of like the week roles in staff forged! It just seems to always make the story go sideways and then this direction in the next direction the higher the chaos factor gets and the lower the chaos vector gets it just as like nothing seems to ever change!

    A fantastic overview of the basics of Mythic.
    A couple of things I've noticed about Mythic that you didn't cover (though I agree with all of the things you said, and a lot of it is personal style)
    -If either NPCs or Threads are low at the start of a campaign (Or even 'There's a thread I'm going to want to add after the first scene, but I do want to play through a prologue where I know exactly how it will end'), don't sweat it. Threads and characters fill up _fast_ towards the start of a campaign.
    -This might be obvious, but if you're running a system where you get experience based on achieving long term goals, clearing a thread (due to your character succeeding at it) is a great prompt for doing that. Just note what session the thread originated in if you're running that sort of system if how long the thing has been in play matters for the system you're running.
    -If a scene is running long? That's fine. Sometimes what makes sense as a scene really is most of a session because there's a lot of moving parts, or it never feels natural to break the scene up. Some of the sessions I remember most fondly from my last campaign were pretty much a single scene. There's no 'right' or 'wrong' length of a scene, just do what feels natural.
    -Don't feel like you need to aggressively cull NPCs to keep your list in order, there's a suggestion in the book that if you're unsure if you should have an NPC on your lists or not, keeping them on and then removing them if Mythic says a random event should involve them and they don't make sense. Basically, if you're unsure, leave them on and let Mythic tell you if you should keep or remove when it's ready to.

    • @theragamancers
      @theragamancers  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm not familiar with that system, so I can't comment specifically, but generally the only compatibility issues have to do with "meta-currencies" where the GM and the players can spend tokens to do specific things. If the system uses those, you'll just have to hack a workaround (which we usually have to do anyway and is part of the fun!)

    Cool, thanks for sharing this with us! I haven't heard of Mythic before.
    Tangetial but, why jump through the hoops to point us to an affiliate link and in the same breath go out of the way to say the video isn't sponsored? The whole point of disclosing sponsorship is to make clear there is a financial incentive for you to drive sales of the product. I'm not super bothered by this, I still found the video informative cause I never heard of this product before but maybe reconsider how you present things in the future so your first impression doesn't make it seem like you are talking out of both sides of your mouth.

    • @theragamancers
      @theragamancers  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I understand your question, but I see sponsorship and affiliate links as different things. The video isn't sponsored because no one paid me to make the video (unlike some other promotional videos on this channel). I'm trying the DTRPG affiliate program as an alternate monetization option to defray some of my costs for the channel. I decided to do this after I had already recorded this video, which is why it's not mentioned in the video itself, and I can see how this retroactive decision has caused confusion. For all my videos, when I use a product that's available on DTRPG I use an affiliate link. In other cases, I link directly to the creator's shop with no benefit to myself. To date for this channel, I have made $100 from sponsorships, $0 from affiliate links, and $0 from all other sources. So at this point this channel is still just a hobby for me, which is fine, because helping people with solo RPG and sharing my solo RPG plays brings me genuine joy, but for the long term, if I want to justify my time and expenses, I will have to figure out a monetization model. Hopefully this answers your question!

    • @cleonanderson1722
      @cleonanderson1722 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@theragamancers Answers the question, thanks. Doesn't change what it looks like, but whatever maybe most people won't care or have my implicit reaction. Like I said, wasn't a deal breaker as far as watching the video, was just an unappealing start. Constant bombardment with advertisements and commodified content from creators is pretty exhausting. Obviously it isn't your fault that TH-cam and social media as a whole encourages this.

    • @theragamancers
      @theragamancers  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I totally get it, and it's something that I wrestle with as a creator. I'm also not a fan of ads, but that's not something that I have control over on this platform. So I'm trying some different strategies to off-set my expenses. Thanks for the feedback.

    Yeah, this still didn't help me. Instead of talking about theory, I'd like to see it ACTUALLY in action. It sounds fine for building stories (albeit simple ones), but not true solo adventuring. How would I use it on say, Temple of Elemental Evil? It doesn't sound feasible.
