Some filler, digital bitch and hot line, but otherwise rather brilliant. Disturbing the Priest is pure evil. Great, and entertaining, lyrical contributions from Ian, who shrieks and screams like a apocalyptic banshee throughout. Tried for this beautiful blond chick working the Orange Julius stand and struck out. That song got me through my failures afterwards. Helped me make it to those rare successes that were waiting for me out there in the darkness.
Born again! Great album! Heard Ian say in interviews that he thought he was the worst singer for Black Sabbath? No way! Wish they would have done more! Ian was a breath of fresh air and and made Sabbath sound amazing... Love Ozzy and Dio but Ian took it to next level!
Everything about this album was amazing,..the funny videos, ..the funny lyrics,..the EVIL Guitars,..THAT EVIL BABY ,...This album is the Perfect 10 ,..that LAUNCHED METAL in the 80's
Who could imagine Gillan in a Sabbath line-up? Black Sabbath is a strange creature, rising from its ashes like a Phoenix. Born Again was a heavy, fascinating record. Long live rock n roll!
it's because they are trying to portray what Bill Gates and the rest of the bloodline mega--rich cult are about---the Buddy Holly look guy represents Gates. in any case, i know Ian believes in God but i don't believe the original four members do. nothing against them.
maybe you get it; don't know---it 'spooky' because they are trying to tell people that's what the Governments have been, and the Buddy Holly look guy is a portrayal of Bill Gates, as well as Alice Cooper's 'Black Widow'.
To this day, THE loudest concert I've ever been to. Saw them at the Capital Centre in November 1983 on this particular tour (saw them on the Mob Rules Tour in 82' as well). I remember when they hit the stage with Children of the Grave....Ian was just shaking that long hair all over the place. Quiet Riot opended! Great concert. Glad I went because those great rock shows are a thing of the past.....And this is the most under-rated Black Sabbath song ever. Never understood how it didn't become a radio staple. A very powerful and thundering song!
lidoplace Coolness. Speaking of Merryweather Post... I was a student at Towson in the 90s. I believe I may have seen the 1st Ozzfest. September 1996, Ozzy, Danzig & Sepultura for 10 bucks. It wasn't what Ozzfest became, the circus etc... but 3 decent bands. Maryland always had good shows stop through. Good times.
it's an underplayed track because it is anti-ma9nstream media, and the bloodline mega--rich that has always controlled it. it is a portrayal of Bill Gates.
I love this album. It's weird that at one time Ian Gillan disparaged it and complained about the album cover! I love Ian and his best work is with Deep Purple but this is some heavy shit!!!!
For all those who bash Ian Gillan for fronting Black Sabbath: Could you even remotely imagine Ozzy fronting Deep Purple? I love Ozzy too, but think about that for a second.
I've seen Black Sabbath with four lineups, and my favorite was the Born Again tour. When Gillan sang Black Sabbath, his laugh gave the chills. It was the creepiest version ever. Neither Ozzy or Dio did that for me. And Iommi's take on "Smoke" wasn't too bad either.
this tune at least, was underplayed because it's anti--mainstream media, and the mega-rich bloodline that's always controlled it. this is a portrayal of Bill Gates.
Ian Gillian made this album, love this song. For a Metal head kid in high school this was my refuge from the hypocritical world, this is a great song, the whole album is great as well.
Weirdest video of the time....loved it!....had a Metalica fan walk out......to heavy for him.....sad since I know Metalica were blown away by Ian's vocals...to great to last......still the standard for true Metal fans!
Holy shitass.... I don't think they ever played this vid on MTV; at least not in the States! It's obviously continuing on as a concept from the Trashed video, but way more intense! Must have been inspired by the horror-movie craze of the early to mid 80's!!
I love this album ,so many memories. One of Sabbath' most forgotten albums(too bad) because it kicks hardcore ass. Ian Gillan Truely rocked on this ablum. I remember seeing this tour like it was yesterday, Loudest concert i ever saw and i've see some of the heaviest bands over the years, nothing comes close. Man I wish i could turn back the clock and do this again.
i used to go downtown with my portable cassette player with this tape and disturb the street corner preachers , who used to yell at us kids with long hair and tell us we were going to hell for the way we looked
I have a new appreciation for this LP after watching a documentary on it and the tour. I missed a few Black Sabbath LPs after DIO departed and this was around the time I got into Rush. This LP has some great musicianship. I will say it does not sound like Sabbath really except for the back end with Geezer, Tony and Bill. However, with Ian Gillan on vocals it feels more like power metal. Check out the documentary on my timeline, some great moments and funny stuff that took place on that tour, like the giant Stonehenge set, the dwarf playing the small devil on stage and what happened in Mexico.💀Thanks for posting this gem of a video.
I used to hide from my friends that I really love this album. They took it as a sacrilege for the Ozzy-fronted Sabbath but then I hear that even Ozzy loved this album. what a mean piece of work! Born again forever!!!
Heavy duty dungeon grind. Always liked this heavy tune. Awesome! Bill Ward did the drumming, but some other drummer is unfortunately shown in the video.
for years i would not listen to this album, and now i am addicted to it! it really is an interesting album, in that it doesn't sound like sabbath before or after, but its very much quintessential sabbath album(if that makes any sense!).
true--it had much to do with Bill and Ozzy being gone and HOW they left. they had thought Bill was ready to return on this album and he tried, but wasn't ready yet. i remember seeing the three of them in a mag when i was in high school wishing Bill well, and stating he was the best in their eyes. so with Ian in, there was a natural change psychically and artistically .
In my top-five favourite Black Sabbath tunes. The entire album is superb and it's a shame there couldn't have been more like it from this lineup. One of Tony Iommi's best riffs.
I remember the first time I heard Paradise City by Guns and Roses back in the late 80's ...... I was like they TOTALLY stole the main riff from the song Zero The Hero, they just sped it up. You got to recall the difference in release times between Appetite for Destruction and Born Again is only a matter of a few years. Watching this clip all these years later you can completely hear it
I noticed the similarity as well. Not identical but very similar riffs indeed (speaking as a guitarist btw). However, the overall songs are still pretty different and feel completely different. Amazing track.. who gives a shit about the poor production, makes it sound even better. Only Gillan could try his hardest to fuck something up drunk and it still turns out brilliant!
Killer track from an underrated album. Part of me wants to believe the poor reception of the album was due to the horrible album art, but also because critics expected so much with Ian Gillan on vocals and rated it poorly because it didn't sound like "Black Sabbath". Plus, Guns n Roses pretty much stole this riff for Paradise City.
+Derek Lang It didnt get to bad of a reception. Tony and Geezer just had higher expectations. I thought art work was fucking awesome. I have seen worse covers
