Idk why people would get so hostile when vtubers are confident enough to show their face, it's fairly common, and some weirdos treat it like its character assassinating
It's unfortunately the whole immersion break. I remember one Vtuber who shared a story about her experience at some conventions. I don't quite exactly remember how it went down, but one person wanted to know if the said Vtuber was at the said convention or wanted to know more about her. She revealed herself that she is that said Vtuber, but the person responded very rudely, saying something like "Oh thanks a lot for breaking my immersion."

@@CHeroVT Oh yeah, I saw that post too. It was so dumb. I think he'd asked her if she could prove that the pictures were signed by the actual vtuber, and wouldn't believe her when she just said that they were, and asked for actual proof, or something like that.
But I kinda get disliking this trend for 2 reasons. 1. Being the immersion break, like if you don't want to see the vtubers irl face I kinda get it, they most likely won't look like their avatars, and if they look too different it may feel weird to watch them again. So I always appreciate when vtuber face reveals have the "are you sure you want to see this" filter over them (forgot what it's called), so you don't see it by mistake if you don't want to.
The second issue is the safety concerns, and that goes mostly for smaller vtubers who try to get big off of trends. It can be really dangerous to reveal your face in the vtuber industry, and you don't want anyone to do it unless they're sure what they're doing. Unfortunately if you're desperate for views you may jump on this trend because it will get some engagement, but it could also have consequences further down the line, with people stalking or doxing you, (which unfortunately is way too common in vtubing), and if you don't look "cute enough" you could also loose followers.
I don't think there is anything wrong with sharing real life stuff while being vTuber. But is also true that the fact of being a vTuber is precisely to not have a real self around your content. Let's no forget that vTuber stands for "virtual youtuber". In the exact moment that you do a face reveal then you stop being a vTuber and you just become a regular youtuber with an avatar. There are many reasons why someone may go into vTubing instead of just being a regular youtuber but usually is due privacy concerns, insecurities, lack of self steam, or even simply because they just prefer to do it in that way. That said, isn't fair to criticise their fan base for not liking knowing about their RL side. They have been there pricisely because you were a vTuber in first instance and you didn't mind them liking you due your virtual side when you got views, superchats, donations, etc. So I guess they also have a voice to be heard and they are on their rights to express theirself and show that they don't like that. vTuber, like any streamer or content creators, are entertainers after all. And if they want success and money, they have to cater to what they do. There is nothing wrong on changing what you do or who you are, and is perfectly fine to change how you show yourself to your audience or even change the kind of content that you will make. But it is wrong to complain about your users not liking what you do anymore.
You were here for a reason, you got users for that same reason. You change, your users don't like it, then you pretend to make them look wrong and mean for not supporting you anymore. That's really messed up and unfair.
But just to stay clear, I do not mind for vTubers to do face reaveals. Personally I find it simply unfitting since it doesn't just breaks the immersion but also breaks its whole purpose of being "virtual". So I can understand why some users may feel negative about it. That have nothing to do with being disrespectful with your favorite vTuber but neither said vTuber should be disrespectful with their fans for going away.
Perhaps, we may just need a different term for people that are vTubers and stops being "virtual" while they also preserve their "virtual" way of creating content 🤔
@@KitsuneShan I understand that, they did build off a career being a virtual anime girl pandering to that audience in mind, which isn't a bad thing. But I think vtubers have a right to make themselves more visible. Think of the many reasons they do that in the first place, some may be insecure about their looks, some of them maybe wanna present themselves as an avatar. I personally see vtubers doing face reveals as them gaining confidence in themselves, they've accepted and embraced who they are as people, and are no longer afraid of showing a part of themselves that they may've hated before. I do understand how it can damage the brand they've created for that virtual character, but I think people should be more accepting if someone chooses to do a face reveal. It doesn't change the vtuber themself, it changes the perception that one sees in them. Personally, I don't think it's right to attack someone for being more confident in themselves. Sure, maybe they SHOULD seperate themselves from their virtual persona, but someone shouldn't be criticized for finally embracing who they are as a person.

i say this as someone just starting as a new vtuber: i think it's so fucking stupid that people expect us to just pretend to be little characters for their enjoyment and never, ever leave that bubble, even for a moment. people are still people even if they're using a silly little avatar.
On the flip of that, I am kind of happy that there is less of a "we must dox the vtuber's irl face" mentality for those who have no intentions of ever face revealing.
So, if they are upset that I "revealed" myself then they followed the wrong VTuber because I was a flesh tuber and have pictures of me up all over my social media from before I rebranded and then before I became a VTuber. Shoot, even my Twitch and TH-cam has clips and videos that show me as a person.
Yeah I thought quite a few were like that.

Quinn was an IRL content creator before vtubing though. Many knew he was Quinn when he joined Niji at the start because of his voice. Quinn is more in the case of IRL content creator who went Vtubing for a while, and now does both.

Idk about posting faces as a trend to jump on, not because of some stupid immersion whatever but because as a creator being anonymous is helpful for irl peace and safety so the choice to deanonymize oneself should be thoroughly thought through especially when it can’t be taken back

The things I focused on were poorly chosen, I mean irl safety IS definitely a possible issue (far too many small vtubers have been stalked and creeped on at cons by people who recognized them), really I should've honed in on the anonymity. You've always shown your face but for other creators (or even rando viewers like myself) who don't show their face there's this safe comforting feeling in that anonymity. Maybe it's because the internet can be way too judgemental especially when it comes to appearance but it goes beyond that too idk it's a bit nebulous
It's hard to put into words which I guess is why I shifted to the easier to word irl safety aspect
People owe it to themselves to think for themselves rather then bandwagoning on a trend without much thought. And sure ultimately a face reveal isn't like showing one's own social security number (but let's be honest if that was a trend some people would do it without a second thought)

I think it depends a lot on how vtuber portrait themselves.
Like, if a vtuber always plays a persona on stream, stuff like „I‘m a demon from here and there, I eat humans and have super strong magic“ and they involve that kinda roleplay into their streams I think it‘d be fair to unfollow them if they switch to irl content if you only followed for the roleplay part.
A lot of japanese vtubers I watch actually work like that, where the person behind the character acts more like a voice actor for that character and a whole team behind the actual content that character produces.
what I meant is I could understand if people unfollowed or unsubbed, not like you‘re „only“ allowed to do so in a specific case.

I actually retired as a vtuber for well over a year and THIS was one of the big reasons why, seeing the community do SO many messed up inhumane things for creepy parasocial reasons made it feel like one of the worst communities to be a part of.... and NOONE was safe from it.
I'm back now and am hoping to re-approach the community in the most fun and carefree way possible, and I hope that issues like this will fade and people stand up for themselves. Because we're PEOPLE. Not DOLLS. :(

Side comment - Froot is adorable. And I don't get the hostility. There are a lot of VTubers that go back and forth between IRL and their VTuber model. Onigiri, Kson, and many more go back and forth.

Froot has a past of very bad behavior, such as lying about Nux Taku to get him cancelled. She backstabbed one of her friends over the Hogwarts Legacy drama, but was then exposed for having a long history of transphobic posts on her old online identity, calling her transgender brother "delusional sister", saying she "wishes she (he) dies in a fire", and used homophobic slurs, etc. She said she'd donate money to trans charity, but the money was never donated for what we know.
She also cheated on her husband, but that's her personal business.
But anyways, that's why people don't like her.
Quinn Benet (PL: Kyo Kaneko) and K9 Kuro (PL: Mysta Rias) are pretty well known for their IRL stuff. I actually really love when Quinn has his Vtuber on screen while also having a face cam because you can see how the rigging on his model works and it's kind of fascinating to watch.

People being upset about vtubers who are under no strict contracts disallowing them from posting irl stuff (i.e indie vtubers or agencies like VShojo) should go follow only vtubers from Hololive, Nijisanji and the like since those will literally never post irl pictures of themselves and thus "break immersion".
"But my immersion!" At the end of the day, behind every vtuber is a person, and unless that person is under a contract that prevents them from posting and sharing certain things, they can and will post about WHATEVER THEY WANT. If you don't like it, that's a you problem, not the vtuber's problem.
And posting a selfie is as said not doxxing. And besides, the selfies vtubers post don't reveal their location anyways, only their irl appearance.
In my opinion, they can do whatever they want because it's their account. They can make the vtuber and irl connect, or they can make another account for only their irl/vtuber connect. At the end of the day they are ones who makes the videos for their fans.❤
I can picture those angry mobs breaking their action figures in a shinji pose after their favorite Vtuber shows irl face. I think is interesting approach to filter your audience even if it cost you a few bunch of subscribers those who stay probably will follow you because of who u are and not because of the persona u show.
Parasocial is exactly it. The fact people get this attached to a facade of a real person is troubling, to say the least.

As a Vtuber myself I’ve been doing what I call breaking the 4th wall. My Vtuber lore is that i am a reality jumper and my IRL self is another reality of my Vtuber. It’s fun and my followers have really liked the dynamic. Listen people need to understand if you don’t like it don’t attack the person just leave. Then that means they weren’t a true fan and shows their true colors.
I can understand that some unfollow it is their right to do so, however what isnt undertandable is the way some people then go out of their way to make stupid comments or harrass somone because they showed their face
I personally wouldnt show my face if I were in their shoes but that is just me personally I can understand that they want to show themselves and they should do it if they want
If I ever do vtubing, I'd probably opt for having a separate character alongside my actual self. Keeps the airwaves open for more kinds of content and narrative throughlines.

When ppl hear the word "vtuber", they automatically think animated avatar. Maybe a new word should be created for someone that does both so that ppl know what to expect
Its up to the audience if they want to follow your content or not. They shouldn't harass you just because you post something they don't like, just unfollow, which many did for that one vtuber. And that is their right too, people have their own preferences and I don't think they should be judged for not wanting to see someone past their vtuber persona. Like i don't care what content creators do in their real life, i only care about what im seeing on screen, and if they stop posting that kind of content, then I leave, simple as that. No harassment or calling them out. If you see a noticeable drop after you post something that your audience doesn't like, maybe think that that's not what people want, and don't do it, sure you are free to use your account as you wish, but your audience is just as a free to up and leave for someone who doesn't do that and they shouldn't be called out for that either.
I'm only a minute into the video, but I've actually seen this trend before and participated in it! :D A few years ago there was a trend going around called "Art vs Artist" which is basically what this Icon vs Artist trend is, except, yanno, you use your best piece of art and contrast it with a selfie. It's cool to see stuff like this is still happening!

I love watching Kuro and Quinn and they show their face so much on stream, it’s just normal! I used to think I needed the immersion but it honestly expands the content they can do and gives more entertainment!
Tbh I can see both sides of the argument. On one hand I kinda get why the purists don't like VTubers doing IRL content, because VTubing has always been about using fantasy as a backdrop for content creation. It blurs the line between IRL and fiction where you're subjectively viewing the streamer as a fictional character (that's how they look) while you're supposed to appreciate that the "actor" behind the persona is a real person with genuine feelings. Since you're not seeing their real face you don't need to think about whether they look good IRL, or if they live a better lifestyle than you. Once they post IRL content though, people get reminded of those influencer types on Instagram and stuff and might start feeling envious, and it turns them off
Yet at the same time you already have established ppl like Kson who've been doing this for ages now. And more indies are doing IRL content too (or were already known for it in the past before VTubing), like Bao, Lilypichu, K9Kuro, Quinn Benet, etc
Tectone mentioned this in his new gachacast episode, but it's important for creators to have horizontal growth (in terms of diversifying content or types of content) in addition to vertical growth (focusing on only one type of content). If you have horizontal growth, then people will follow you for you, and it will be easier to transition to different content because you have a loyal fanbase. I think that's sort of why corpo VTubers are skilled/talented in multiple aspects, and the variety of their content reflects that (e.g. gaming streams, karaoke streams, art streams, experimental handcam streams, etc)
What I'm trying to say is, it is better if viewers appreciate creators for who they are as a person on top of what they do

there's a double sided coin to this argument which is interesting-
on one hand you have vtubers who don't show their face for a multitude of reasons; corporations, internet privacy and online security, insecurites etc which are all valid reasons to not do so and its all up to them.
on the other hand you have vtubers who do show their face, which isn't bad either. they might have gotten the confidence to share their face with their community, or the fact that their face is on the internet already and don't mind it being up.
of course there is the fear of people finding your personal information through those means, but its also up to the vtuber whether they do so or not. both sides are valid and isn't really up for debate. its always up to the vtuber if they want to break immersion or not and its also a crucial reminder to people that there's a real person behind the avatar with thoughts and feelings.
I.... have i understood it wrong? I thought corporations have the rule about keeping irl separate to both protect the "user", the employee they hired (cuz showing the face can lead into doxxing. This can sometimes also protect the brand but i think its mostly about protecting the person behind the avatar). I did not know its to "keep up the immersion"!?!?!?!???? Especially since so many corporate vtubers have held handcam streams when they do cooking streams for example... it is not animated hand. Edit: At least in japan the idol-scene is wild. There are so many crazy people out there that would do anything to be with their idol. That is why pop singers don't often have meet&greets and don't have direct interaction with their fanbase. I believe this is why vtuber scene blew up there. Because virtual models give idols safety to do stuff irl idols can't. There is closer bond between fan and idol where they can read your chat, flirt back, give attention.... feed into simping. (Which we can all argue if it is morally right move... a lot of asian idols either have to stay single or at least pretend to be single... cuz of immersion... to suck more money from simps..... but that is how corporations and even some indies work...). So hiding the face i think for (asian) corporations is to try and keep the safety filter between "user" and fan. Immersion maybe be part of it but i don't think it is the main reason. (Unless i am understanding asian vtuber scene completely wrong). (Also i dunno how much if any of this has carried to western vtuber corporations).
It serves several functions at an organizational level. For one, anonymizing the talent behind a pen name and persona does protect the talent in some way; whether the talent feels it necessary is really up to them for the most part (if not part of the contract.) It also, however, ties said talent to a persona who's assets, model, fictional name, and content are most often in the company's ownership and NOT the talent's. We haven't seen any major case yet where a persona has returned with a different talent (or an AI god forbid,) but that's a huge boon - especially if you're shareholder-driven/IP holding. They can also control it much easier - combined with the norm of archiving a persona's work when a talent "graduates" and vacates it, as well as the push towards not discussing past/alternate "lives," it serves the corporate owners more than the talents to hide their identities.
This doesn't mean that it's not in every talent's interest, of course. Dokibird has, for example, benefited greatly from alluding to her "past lives" as Selen Tatsuki, if not implicitly after people just associated the two personas regardless. She has a certain corporate owl friend, however, who for contract sake and personal sake would rather her personal account and corporate persona not be publicly linked. Both, however, do not show their IRL faces because there's more danger in her situation especially after Bloody February. Doki's former co-workers however (now under Matara and Kuro) along with others have actually gotten small boost from the glimpses to what they look like in real life. It'd honestly be better then if this decision was left up to the talents to decide instead of being written into a contract.

Funny you said that. Wactor, the worst company in vtubing space (yes even worse than the yacht) is doing that exact thing with Mitsurugi Lia right now. Another example I know off the top of my head is kizuna ai the OG herself changed VA a couple times. Didn't work out real well for her.
Even if the company owns the IP of a graduated vtuber, skin walking does more harm than good. Making a new model is way easier/safer

For sure agree it's better to just retire the IP. Or, better yet, either sell the IP to the talent (if not just give it to them.)
@@RobertStoll Some company give the IP ownership to the talents. The only one I know for sure is NoriPro.
Shibuya Hal did talk about the subject a little saying it would be a lose-lose situation for the company. If they don't sell the rights the talent can just retire and all the investment promoting the IP goes poof. If the sell it then every successful talent would just buy the IP using the company as a stepping stone and initial investment. It's more complicated than just selling/giving up the rights
It's not really a corporate rule. Even independent content creators would not suddenly call themselves vtubers just because they adapted a Live2D avatar.
I think the separation really just one of the fundamental things that make a vtuber a vtuber and not an avatar.
I get the immersion stuff, but you usually don't tell off the content creator for breaking your own immersion. It's too subjective and frankly, selfish. Tsukino Mito, one of the pioneers of live streaming vtubers, herself would have "not-2D content". Hopefully, you know what a "Nazo-no-Mito" is. However, being one of the OG, she does mostly faithfully keep up her JK character even if it meant being a 16(?)-year old JK for 6 years.

Privacy is a general concern for most Japanese people. It's to the point where people would get angry if you try to film them without permission even while in a public space. If people know your identity and where you live and you just happen to get the ire of random people over the internet, you could get harassed at your own home even if you're just a complete nobody. Being a minor internet celebrity like a vtuber moreso; and no matter how clean aka "seiso" you are even as a guy, there will always be someone who will hate your guts and will probably harass you if they know who you are or where you live. Because of this, it does give the impression that the anonymity of vtubers seem like it's meant for protection. The thing is, there are some more public people who wouldn't mind showing their real face and name without hiding that they're also the person behind a vtuber. (well, I know only one so far). Corporate giving protection to their vtubers is just for the par, a perk of being under corporate. Letting the actors deal with their problems privately does mean that they have to take time off, so it it's the best interests of the corporation to aid them with that.

The weirdest part of this to me is when a vtuber is just a streamer, makes no effort to roleplay, and people still have "immersion" complaints. I'm just like, are we watching the same person?
Oh, the times when vtubing wasn't as common, and you got called out because you hid behind the model (because why are you afraid to show your face etc.).. now you get called out if you have the audacity to show your face :D Like, how dare you! (immersion or not, don't be so entitled as to attack the content creator for creating content you yourself don't like. You can always scroll past, unfollow and such, to avoid that kind of content to pop up on your feed)
It doesn't make sense why some fans don't like the real person behind the model, but likes the model itself! A model is a model, and it needs a person to control it.

The vtubing community can be very toxic. I myself am a Vtuber and i will never post images of myself. As i like having my streaming life and Rl life serperated. However... People really need to unstand indie vtubers can do whatever and they arnt under corp.
I want the same, I don't care about who they are, they are playing a role as vtuber and posting personal stuff not related to their job broke and ruin their character. Vtuber accounts are like a job, you don't use your job and workplace for advertise yourself or for doing personal stuff instead or working. It's literally wrong. People watching an imaginary character probably is not seeking for a human able to remind them about reality, otherwise they would watch one of the millions of people that speak showing their real face.

This is so wild😓 people do NOT control what the creator wants to do as they are their own person I believe that the creator gets their own decisions if they want to do irl and vtuber content than they should be able to do it, if you follow someone just for their persona-model or wtv and the v-tuber starts also posting irl content just unfollow them, there will still be v-tubers who’s accs revolve around just virtual stuff. It isn’t that serious and if you want your favorite content creator to be happy then I don’t see the problem with them post irl and vtuber content together

There's also ways where you can literally blur the image so that it makes both sides happy.
People whom want to see the trend - can happily do so including seeing the VTubers they follow(by clicking the image to unblur it)

I think it's cause it breaks the immersion. It would be like if a voice actor in an anime suddenly had a face cam in the corner of the episode, It just doesn't fit the content they've created. They watch them for the characters they play not the voice behind them.

@@L-or3vr true but the problem is they didn't market it that way. It was an anime without a face cam and suddenly mid season they put it in the corner without any warning. If they started out putting the face cam in the corner and advertised that way then it wouldn't be a problem.
I think it's kind of dumb that people think that all vtubers MUST be anonymous and MUST NOT show their face, when in reality it's up to the vtuber whether or not they want to show their face and things like that. I follow a lot of vtubers that have shown their face and lots that haven't, they're still a vtuber either way, it doesn't matter
I understand both sides. I hope the fans that want the vtubing immersion finds the vtuber that can cater to that need and I hope the vtuber that want to mix their irl and vtubing personas find the fans that would appreciate or enjoy such things. I think it's interesting if the vtuber mix a few irl aspects in with their vtuber persona because I think it reinforces the idea that the vtuber persona is "real" and on the planet with the fan without showing the actual person's face or who they may hang out with.
I do wish more social media had a tag system that worked like tumblr so you can tag for stuff people dont wanna see and they can filter it... but that isn't creator's problem. If Im on twitter and I see posts I'm not super intersted in I just keep scrolling. Dont bother the creators about it

Personally I like the idea of crossing IRL and VTuber but I get not wanting to see it. Real solution though is to follow VTubers dedicated to not crossing that line (Ex: Corporate VTubers)
Unfollowing someone cuz their content isn't what you like anymore is understandable. But posting comments about it or messaging the person cuz you feel so entitled that their content has to follow what you want is just crazy.

I post my vtuber and irl content on my TikTok, but no anywhere else, a lot of vtubers are like playing a character and has lore and stuff so I get that, but I personally as a vtuber don’t have some persona, I’m just myself and I like using a vtuber model
I understand people that don't want to see the irl face of the vtuber they're following. For me it were artists I followed that started to uplaod more and more irl stuff to the point where there were no more (or nearly no) drawings posted.
*BUT* I also understand that I'm not in control of what others post and share. If they want to share a picture, some irl stuff and so on, then that's nothing for me to decide. Let people do what they want. No need to be nasty.
I never liked "should" language, because that's so subjective. People have their own reasoning for stuff so if that's what they want (mixing irl and vtuber) than that's on them. Just as much as a person can choose to make content, and person can choose to not engage anymore and go to someone who might better fit their version of vtubing definition.
Self Doxxing is very much a thing. The reason its not lumped in with the normal quote "doxxing" definition is simply cause its not someone else being malicious. As it is malicious actors acting on the doxxed info aka butterfly effect spiraling outwards.
I chose to represent myself on youtube using a vtuber model. At the moment I do not intend to do a face reveal. I am glad people feel comfortable enough to reveal their faces to their audience. ❤
As someone who has followed 5 people from past corpos into indie or new corpo, I follow the creator not the vtuber. I prefer content is like, 90% vtuber to 10% irl, but seeing handcams, cooking streams, etc is a real enhancer for me. They are just like me frfr.
Plenty of vtubers I watch do have live streams with cooking or hobbies like model making and it's always interesting and fun seeing how they actually move and look. It does affect the model a bit because I then know what kind of face they'll be pulling behind it, but it doesnt bother me obviously. I watch it for the personality, the pretty art is just a plus.
There was a spanish speaking vtuber who accidentally revealed her face years ago and there was a trend where a lot of vtubers where doing this vtuber/user publications!

One of the main reasons I want to draw and rig/animate my own VTuber model is because I'm hella ugly, I could never show my face irl like this. If I ever try it out, my account would be only for art/VTuber stuff, nothing irl.
People clearly forgot about that Kson debuted on a stage wearing the outfit her model would have and having her hair look like her model’s. She basically debuted in real life as herself. Her model is her in real life.

Twitter (wildest as it gets) but to honest one of the creators like CODEMIKO (and I personally used to watched) I like what she does and I never seen a issue about the concepts. It should be fine that some vtubers or pngtubers, voice creators (people who doesn't use character to portrait themselves with), handcams etc. should be treat and considered equally. Honestly, that kinda reminds me of Idol culture in Japan/Asia in general. Where they MUST keep the "persona" up, or the fans literally go berserk (like staying single so the "fans" can keep the illusion up that they might have a chance with their idol).

Hi Vtuber here and I prefer to have my life separate from my Vtuber self. Short reason why is that I like having a normal social life & not have to worry about being a Vtuber all the time. Each to their own though ❤
Idk if its because of playing DnD or the art of voice acting. But to me seeing the "real face behind' a character does not break immersion at all. It adds a layer to it. Sounds like a skill issue of them if now they saw a real person behind they cant "believe in it" anymore 😂😂😂
What's sad is that I'm sure many vtubers are self conscious about their appearance or shy. Imagine mustering up the courage to post your face, and someone sends a disheartening message like that. 😢
My main concern with all of this is when they show their face, they have very recognizable faces and they are very popular, so when a very popular streamers shows their face for the first time, they potentially could be bombarded with fans on the regular I'm mainly worried about their safety, I don't care if they blend real life with virtual, though I do think there is a clear line that you should not reveal your face on the Internet if you do have model mainly out of their own safety
i know it's not a problem I would ever have because my thoughts would be, sometimes you have to take out the garbage. always do you. and if you do something you want and you lose subscribers/followers, they're just taking themselves out. build yourself back up with the people that you want to keep.
People on the internet have gotten way too comfortable in assuming that creators will magically cater to their needs because "they are the majority" or the very least the LOUD minority but we seriously need to take a step back and analyse the very worrying case of parasocial relationships these kind of entitled attitudes foster. I genuinely find it ridiculous, if u what a nonfictional person, obsess over anime characters from shows. To have that mindset of ‘oh, they’re a vtuber, content creator, they can’t act like a regular human being to suit my needs’, it’s so delusional. You can’t act like they can’t do other stuff, you don’t control them-it’s weird asf… we’re still in reality despite having this persona, they need to get a grip.
While I can understand people simply unfollowing a creator because they don't want different content that what they initially followed the creator and such, I never get when they start being rude to said content creators. Like for I guess example, I, a few years ago, personally started unfollowing some old cosplayer accounts because majority of their content is more risque and 18+ nowadays. I would never criticize or rudely message them about their change of content just because it no longer suits my personal tastes and preferences (also because at the time I was a minor and felt, and still feel uncomfortable, by that sort of content even though now I'm legally an adult).
I think the separation of content is a typical thing in most content creators. But when you follow someone you should already get a good gist of what kind of content they already do.
A small trend like posting their face like this shouldn't warrant this kind of backlash. It baffling to think that people are so up in the clouds they can't imagine there are real people are behind the Vtuber model. There's a real person behind the voice acting in the anime they watch too...

I will say, a lot of Vtubers act differently when doing irl stuff, which is normal and sensible but i feel like it effects people's perception of usual Irl streamers Vs a Vtuber trying Irl. In this case its just a face reveal which doesn't directly effect their content but i personally do understand the desire to keep Vtubers and Irls separate for this reason... on an individual level though, as in like unfollowing ppl, and not telling others what to do.
asians ( not every asian but this is common in asia specially china and japan ) tend to make rule of never mix the person and the persona , it's a rule so strict that if the person shows their hard their unfollow foverer, they call it ruined experience . On the other hand Americans love exposure and discover if the person behind the avatar is cute or not.

Idk... Dox is literally someone releasing private information like phone number or address. Anything else isn't doxing. Like if I release the face of a vtuber who hasn't released one themselves, then technically that isn't doxing. It's bad and messed up, but it isn't doxing. If we're going to talk about the "Definition" of doxing, can we stop saying that releasing a random photo of someone else equals doxing. Am mainly a lurker, but i will say the topics you bring up are interesting and your opinions valid (i'm not all that sure if i agree to everything you say, but no hate just cause they differ, know what i mean?), so been watching more and more of your vids as they pop up. As for this topic you bring up, i think a vtuber should have the freedom to choose what content they want to do, be it gaming, singing, vr, irl, etc. what i might add is that they explain why the change (i don't need a book on it, a paragraph is enough for me. Maybe less than that). Think this could help their communities in general. Beyond that... I don't really mind if vtubers mix irl content in their streams or remain 'pure'. They do them and i'll watch just cause it's fun and enjoy interacting with the community in the meantime (one can't really expect to be called out by the vtuber all the time, after all. Especially if they are one of the big ones). That's all there is to it

I don't even understand the big deal. It's just one picture and the Twitter mob is acting like they're changing their whole brand overnight.
I can see why people aren't happy with this trend, mainly because in the past there were a lot of non-vtuber streamers who were abusing the vtuber tag on twitch. This was back in 2023 I believe and since then most vtuber consumers/viewers wouldn't want to mix the two together in order to avoid that happening again. But I do agree that vtubers should be allowed to express themselves beyond their model.

I follow people for people I don’t care what they do or if they are vtuber or irl as long as they are still themselves. I hate horror but I still watch people I follow who play it because I enjoy them that much!
I myself am a hybrid tuber (as I like to call it). So I show my face AND make content with my IRL face as well as with my vtuber persona. I'm me, regardless of a vtuber model. If someone thinks they must unfollow me bacause of this: sure, go for it. If they just follow me for my vtuber looks and not for my personality or content, sorry but I won't fit their needs.

Honestly, it’s interesting af because if you look at someone like Corpse Husband, people were obsessed with wanting to know what he looked like and that’s what made him stop making content. Love the creator and I wish him the best with his life and anonymity that he sought. But this is kind of the opposite and it makes me wonder why?
