To all those saying this is a Chinese project.....It's all Ghanaian..infact, there is nothing foreign about this project.....funds where raised locally via Public Private Partnership & the project is being constructed by a local construction firm fully owned by Ghanaians...this was publicly made known in 2017 when the president cut sod for commencement.....we need start believing in ourselves & stop attributing every mega project to others.
Edit : The companies (All ghanaian) involved are Adjaye Associates (AA), ABP Consult Limited, the Consortium and Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC).

However, we shouldn't neglect our second capital, Kumasi. The city of Kumasi needs more modern, enclosed markets like the new Kejetia market at every major location to prevent the problem of people putting containers by the roads and selling on road pavements in the city.

      @TheNewAfricaChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

Thanks for checking out our video. Our report didn't take much into consideration about resettlement. However, our research revealed that the occupiers were compensated (~8 Million Cedis), which apparently wasn't enough.
The Jamestown demolishing exercise is also over and the land was handed over to the Chinese partner last month, for the commencement of the fishing harbor.
We believe for Ghana to move forward and have a clean and world-class city, these are some of the sacrifices the country must take on, as in the case of several mega projects found across the world. With that said, care must be taken dealing with those involved in the resettlement.

They really should spend all that money fixing up and painting businesses downtown, which is way cheaper. You'll help local businesses and attract more tourism. With 1.2 billion you wouldn't just be able to help downtown either, but you could instead of building a bunch of towers and gentrifying the center...you can actually give the citizens the tools to have de-centralized gentrification of existing infrastructure. Let the people of Ghana self-gentrify their own city instead of forcing it upon them.

I know most people are going to say that this project is for the high class..and most of it is right..but
1- This can create more jobs
2- It can attract the wealthy diaspora to created businesses in the country
3- It can help improve the face of the country and ease movement
Do I need to go on?

The question is, will this decision taken by the leaders in the Ghanaian government eventually lead to a shoreline which is enviromentally friendly or not ? Will there be a large numbers high rises ? Will the development, great as it is to grow the economy, be less like the industrial and business developments seen along the shorelines of beautiful scenic Bali, where buildings cannot be higher than 15 metres (not taller than typical coconut trees); or, instead, will the shoreline and miles of beautiful beaches, in the end, be hidden behind a long wall of new buildings, such as seen in Miami, Florida ? Good luck to the beautiful people of Ghana.

This is amazing!! However, I hope Ghana will get to the point where primary necessities (a good home, clean water, electricity and good paying jobs) are extended to the WHOLE of Ghana, so one doesn't have to travel to Accra to have a decent life!
I also hope we will one day connect ALL our cities with a train system and have good transportation services.
Oh and let's not forget, make Ghana safe again!!
Armed robbery, theft and all that jazz will not stop until the Government provides GOOD paying jobs to it's people!!
To the people at the top: Let's think more of the people and less of our expensive and unnecessary travelling!
If all of this is put in place, NOT one Ghanaian in their rightful mind would leave Ghana to build a better life for their families abroad!

D J BLACK I doubt it when you say the current government is combining all the good projects of the past government when there are a lot of unfinished projects by past Government waiting to be finished by the current government but nothing has happened . I’m talking about essential projects like hospitals , roads and schools . Even some hospitals that where ready for use was still abandoned by the current government until the covid-19 surprised us. It’s sad how Ghana is being developed with shallow thinking . Parties always want to claim ownership like the funds came out of their pockets . God help us all.

Don’t be indebted to foreign investors who’s only interest will be their own first, invest in your people especially the ones with no running water, electricity and a proper sewage treatment system. Education first.God bless Africa.

Great comment!!! Re-building of Ghana/Africa should come from within and there's the need to improved health care, water, etc.
With that said, the Marine Drive Project is being done through public private partnership initiative. From our research, there's no Chinese loan for this project, rather most private companies (mostly Ghanaian) are being given various incentives/tax free breaks to facilitate the needed capital and smooth take-off for the project. Here's the official page for the project for more info: www.marinedriveghana.com/
Thanks once again for commenting and please don't forget to check our other videos :)

I think it was one of Dr Kwame Nkrumah's agenda, which never materialised. It's a very good step the current government took it on. Ghana must have a national development agent, which must be followed up and respected by all political parties. Projects must be implemented and continued regardless of which political party is in power.
