Waldorf Astoria to Be Gutted, Turned Into Condos

- China's Anbang Insurance Group which owns the Waldorf Astoria in New York City says it plans to close the landmark hotel for up to three years to convert the majority of the hotel's rooms into private apartments. The WSJ's Lee Hawkins explains.

Feels like and iconic piece of our national history is disappearing. I do at least hope respect will be given to the landmark that allows it to keep it's original name in place now that it is under new ownership.

Plaza in NYC, they also turned alot of those rooms into condo's, and that didn't work out to well..China's Anbang Insurance Group, may have to sell the Waldorf Hotel to someone else..They're having a problem with the Chinese government on taking all that money out of China..They are also having problems with the building permits..

This video is not entirely accurate as it’s not being entirely “gutted.” Much of the public spaces have been declared historic and much work has been done to save historic detailing and artifacts.

Aside from President Barack Obama, Paris Hilton is the only person mentioned of modern times, and she is mentioned because she is not only a recognizable figure in pop culture as well as a socialite and successful businesswoman, but as stated here, her Great Grandfather used to own it. Best believe even if Teresa Giudice from Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Great Grandfather owned it, they would have mentioned her too. Paris Hilton’s lineage as well as her current name recognition makes her mention completely valid, and also serves to illustrate the vast, lengthy and varied expanse of public personas who have stayed there.

Wasn't that special. Been to much cheaper hotels with bigger rooms and a calmer lobby and meeting points. Maybe it was something long time ago, but that era is gone,.
Try not to forget how much the actual land cost where you slept .
