You are looking at the most resourceful people ever!!! If they don't have it and need it, they grow it, harvest it, make it, or invent it. It is a different mindset and carry dignity in daily living. It isn't for everyone.
I think they're richer than me by a mile. I live in a modern city and would give it up in a heartbeat. It all depends upon what your measure of wealth is.

They are ignored because they don't generate enough money for them. But I would love to hear your view, that's how we all learn and as a old man I still like to learn.

My dad was born and raised in Majestic, Kentucky. The last time I was there in 84' nothing had changed. But I love the mountains!!! So sad that they are still forgotten.
If you live further away from shopping and work the poorer you are. A long drive to work means more gasoline$$. Rural grocery stores have increased shipping costs and less competition to keep prices low.
Not everyone in WV lives like this. We have nice homes and running water. The people that do live like this are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.
I would use a well kept out house over a public bathroom any day. The way this country is going people will wish they knew what these mountain people do.
Most of them don’t want what we consider better. They’d rather live simple
