For goodness sake, Viswa... the next time you interview someone, let the person talk and stop trying to hog the limelight. You made this otherwise interesting piece a chore to watch.
The interviewer is evidently bias here. He ends the interview by psychologically steering the viewers to his direction, i.e., to his stance that the viewers should also trust his summative conclusion to support a candidate they do not know at all as opposed to the position that Bertha stated, namely we know more that the current PM is more of the same as he was an administrative service officer who reported to his former boss.
Thank you for inviting Bertha. All of us really wants this country and it people to succeed. Bertha unlike many observers of the political is more passionate about it. It is also good to sound out the issues that might have overlooked.
I think she is overly critical person, always picking on small issue and make it to become a mountain. Personally I am clueless as why she think she is fit to be commenting teaching what PM Wong has to do a PM. Jounalist are good at reporting historical event, they are not content creators.
Damn...Berta would've made one hell of an opposition member. Well-spoken, full of life experience, relatable, logical, objective, sense of humour and fair. She's amazing.
Our Ministers/ex-Ministers must understand they are not elitists. A large number of them are recipients of government scholarships. Now that they made it financially, both they and their family members ought to remember their "ROOTS" and serve the country whole-heartedly without ALWAYS consider BIG payout for their effort or intelligence or talent.
The "system" has made the people "practical" (instead of "idealistic - committed to excellence"). They are self-servicing. They look after themselves first (and stops there) to have a peaceful life to enjoy what they have.
Bertha is just amazing with her own colloquial and singlish thrown in. The host on the other hands seems to be trying getting Bertha to believe in his own ideal.
I concur w several of the comments here: it was nice to hear the views of Bertha, but the interviewer Viswa certainly need to exercise restraint. At some point, I was wondering is he going to let Bertha talk, or he is more interested in giving himself the platform to say his own thing? 😅
contrary to a lot of the criticism here, i thought bertha brought up a lot of good points. viswa needs to improve his questioning style as an interviewer. he needs to understand this interview is not about him, it's about bertha.
Yes agree! I didn't like the way he kept interrupting Bertha, and she on some questions didn't finish answering them completely! I think the interviewer was kind of rude .🙄
Viswa was pandering to the incumbents, I think Bertha nailed it on several topics. Viswa was whitewashing. He basically said we can trust that PAP will do good. Erm, against what Bertha was sharing,
"They do not know what they do not know" - well said. And do not ask and likely afraid to change (because it might be interpreted as a mistake was made).
When she was editor at TNP, TNP really tried pushing on investigative journalism in Singapore, despite being a tabloid with all its tabloidish-ness. In an alternate reality, if she was editor in ST, would there have been an alternate reality of a stronger, more investigative press in SG?
No matter what the future small island will be our local will more less well off with more foreigners doung the same jobs but their salary are higher than locals after their exchange rate they are much better than local because of our small and cramp h d b units are are exorbitant prices worst after they paying for the flat not much left for survival not to mention retirement thatsbwhy our seniors are still working to support themselves instead of retiring happily looking after their grandchildren
Not all are good, some even goes backwards instead of improvement. Especially the customer service, not every 😅 things can be done through digital or AI services... It seems like very rigid, and are not helpful in answering problems. After all still need customer services officer assistant to answer the call. It take up a lot of unnecessary times and it is not improving but backwards in services. Certainly things digital can't give you answers to enquiry left more doubts and frustrated. This are the set backs in this digital Age.
Frankly speaking, who is the interviewer and who is being interviewed? Vis, you are frequently interrupting Berta and putting your opinion into the topics being discussed. This is not a forum but an interview for Gods sake !😮 15:13
"Trust is as two-way street". Trust to be trusted. Does the government trust the people? It is also "trust but verify". To verify requires openness and transparency.
The scandal involving ruling party MPs was uncovered through the party's own internal checks and was transparently revealed in parliament by the party itself. None of these revelations were initiated or discovered by the opposition. In contrast, the opposition tried to conceal scandals involving their MPs when their leader became aware of the issue. It wouldn't be surprising if more scandals involving opposition party are uncovered when the metaphorical carpet is lifted.
I disagree with her assessment on the last 2 PMs, and I challenge her to use her own scorecard to assess them. LKY era produced HDB, CPF, SBS, SMRT etc. The rest? GST, ERP, COE? 😮 If I sum up her best points: transparency and accountability, let's hope people vote based on their best interests. Absolutely demand for your East, West, North, South coast plan! Moving forward though, because we are first world, we need more QUALITATIVE scoring. Where's the PURPOSE and LEADERSHIP because seems like only gahmen exempt from skills upgrading and productivity drive. With AI and this new thing called computers, maybe just maybe, we should wonder why GST needs to increase to serve the same population?
Singapore is not First World in terms of standard of living. What is the point of skills upgrading if there is bias against older workers. Also, there will always be a "cheaper" (no CPF) foreigner who will get the job.
Any external affairs all boils down to women themselves to be blamed, if a man want to " tackle " or " interested " in another lady and if the lady know that he already have a famliy whether in good shape or not must not " step " .similarly a woman must not step into other family whether they are in good shape or not , whichever cones first majority broken family are all ladies fault.ladies when they fed up they can just walk off to look for another man .
Dbs CEO is an icon? You gotta be kidding? After all that big failures and you label DBS as an icon? Anytime SIA is befitting! In Singapore, it is moving around the few players whom the system feels are qualified but really CMI. It is everywhere in the ministries and stat boards. 😮😅
The interviewer is an Indian too and so pick the same kind. DBS screwed up so many times but he ignored. To begin with he as an interviewer already preoccupied with agenda in mind from the way he keep interrupting Bertha. He can't be a good interviewer showed no impartiality the way he conducted or don't even qualified to be one.
took me a few starts and stops to watch the interview it reiterates and emphasises why i dun follow politics too closely and get emotional there are more constructive ways to spend time and help SG to succeed in other ways
Why does the private sector need to wait for government leadership? How much incentive do MNCs receive for coming to Singapore? It’s clear that the private sector must collaborate with government strategies. Does the failure of private leader to propose different or contrasting strategies, a reflection on the local education system? Do politics and education have a close relationship?
No big idea in Singapore is because increasingly, there is nothing much Singapore can actually offer. Cities and countries can catch up to Singapore - slowly, but surely. We have some manufacturing but not major enough to make waves in the world. We have no farming or agriculture. We just have people. How much do you expect people can produce or innovate if it is just people as a resource? It will be easy to replicate. We talk about innovation, wanting to change, but what is there for us to change when we are not producers of anything much? Will the world demand of our services or products? Who will when there are better and more varied alternatives elsewhere? I am not trying to be optimistic, but singapore better be on its toes and the people better be careful cos come few elections down the road and the world becomes more and more different, we may very well lose out position and placing in this world.
Good observation and point...already there is a feeling that S'poreans are becoming too proud and complacent and turning into "a little island with smug people". Pride comes before a fall. Of course many countries would love to be in S'pore's position but there is a problem with high cost which is affecting not just individuals but businesses as well. On the micro level, ncreasingly I see S'poreans being priced out of the good "middle income" life that many aspire too, esp the older generation like myself. I can't speak for the younger generation but among my contemporaries and peers, many have expressed the view that it's better for us to move away as the island state is becoming more and more expensive and not conducive for retirement.
Why is continuity bad? Is it not too premature to state that Lawrence Wong and his team have no big idea? It’s one month into their new role. Make the call a year after the next election. For now stay the course, is not a bad idea.
The guest is saying what she observed today, till now. So of course in the future anything is possible. What she said is based on her observations. So the Fact remains and you cannot debunk her. Singapore has no Big Ideas up to today
SG does not belong to anyone person's grandfather. The supreme law of the land gives voters the power to change leaders if they deem it's needed. It's human nature those benefitting a lot to not want change. It's also natural that those who disapprove several policies and seeing no signs of change possible to want to send a signal to the establishment. You need to change the SG Constitution to remove this power and then you can sleep in peace. Ban elections and you can have no change. Or migrate to China and enjoy dictatorship under one party. Don't be selfish. If the 40% wants change that's their legal rights. 40% deserves a proportional representation in parliament seats which is Not the Case Now. Next time you not happy with the 40%, don't tell them to leave SG. Tell them to Vote Them Out! Understand? Don't fool them to leave SG and leave SG with only anti-diversity-of-views people. We don't need bigots in sg
For national matters, the interviewer should dare to ask questions that the people would like to ask. Be patient, let her speaks and not loose her thoughts.
They provide courses to everyone to upgrade our skills. Yet, they themselves do not need to upgrade themselves. For more than 50 years, where is the version 2.0?
I believe there there are some threads missing this inteview/discussion. There ws recognition during the discussion that the private sector should not merely follow the government and but act show leadership and work together rather than merely let the Government lead the private sector follow. Instead of following up on the idea of the team, and how it can be implemwnted and what the advantages are, the discussion moved on to persons who are 'successful' in the private sector joining the government. This bnefits the Government because it has people with a different experie ce in theiir midst but what happens to the leadershio that we want to see in the r=private sector? The idea of the private sector and the Government got a mention with hardly any follow up.
There's a sports term .."You can only beat the team that's infront of you" , the stability that we are blessed with is also the greatest friction to change.
haha. Now you have our Asean neighbour to watch. Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam are catching up. Soon we don't even know who has eaten our lunch.
What is perplexing is she came inside the system. No experience outside non-govt linked organisations, what optical experience does she has on organizational change?? Working for SPH ...isn't a frontier organization for dynamic critical assessment of political leadership or organization weaknesses.
I think we have tested these scholars for way too long to prove themselves. Its time to let them go and let in those who are really passionate for the country and who are capable to fill the job
Superb interview and superb thoughts from an experienced journalist She should write books about her experiences with politicians and people. And her experiences with all the PMs. She has a licence to speak. After 60years people are mature to accept.
It's not Singapore politics that needs to change. BH needs to change herself. As an old auntie, her time is over. Why does she keep meddling with Singapore politics? At her age, she could have retired and enjoyed her last lap of life. Don't be a hater. If she thinks she can contribute, I suggest she should join politics to become a politician. No need to show your frustrations.
An obsolete mindset that one should enter the political arena to air or promote his or her political views. Every Singaporean's views (positive or negative) count so long as these are given in good faith and for the betterment of Singapore.
LKY set the precedence of leveling the playing field by imprisoning, bankrupting and destroying his detractors. The country has moved away from this but transparency, accountability and power sharing may still be a ways off
I think her point was about transparency. It's one thing to say that behind closed doors he's got the support, but it's another for him to actually get elected as SG of the party and to carry the ground in the election in clear view of all his colleagues behind him.
@@keejoseph3145 you didnt know that LHL appoint KBW to conduct interview among ministers on who they think is the most suitable 4th PM? the answer turns out to be LW.

@@lucretius8050There is no absolute fairest system, we also have relatively and comparatively fairest GE system with transparency, when we compare how we run our GE vs those countries which advocate democracy, such as US and India. We have witnessed those opposition parties who advocate transparency and claim to check on administration of ruling party had been checked to have more misconduct in the parliament and having attempted to hide them.
As long ng as PAP remain in power LKY blueprint for SG economic progress, socialist governance, elitist leadership among others he prepared for the next 50 years will be implemented and it will be a detriment to grooming a strong outstanding leader to develop and implement new more dynamic program and direction to unify the people and elevate more talents and progress.
PM has a very short runway. It will be a very busy months ahead. The guest had rightly pointed out, he needs to get his party colleagues to support him. Best is to speak to Mr Goh CT.

We should categorise all parties, other than the ruling party, as non-ruling. There should be no opposition as we are all Singaporeans, fighting for the same survival, economic, political causes.
Opposition need to step up the game, be a real qualified contender. That will be a valid and important factor to drive for better and better direction.
And they are still milking the goodwill of LKY's team, spending unnecessary money with all the Founders memorial thing, when LKY explicitly mentioned no statue whatsoever
Actually it's ok to milk the goodwill of past leaders who have been instrumental in bringing Spore to what it is today...all countries do that. But it's a different thing altogether to spend extravagantly on building monuments, while at the same time harping on financial prudence. Somehow it just doesn't click.
I have Zero trust in 4G elected leaders. They know now bad time and yet increased GST ! They know once increased 1%, a hawker will pay 1% more for every ingredient they going to sell. IF 10 ingredient then sure hawker need to charge 10% more ! They did it without citizens consultation? The slogan LW said "Govt will discuss with Citizens and work towards our needs. Then Budget 2024 suddenly CPF special acct close by 2025 ! Did they consult normal citizens then decide!! No !!!
Your view is too short-term, and is bad for the long-term survival of SG. Higher GST is inevitable - our region and the world is becoming more dangerous, and we need more money to support our large ageing population. Yes, it is a difficult time to tax more, but SG needs to start doing so asap, if not there won’t be enough funds to tackle these problems. And even if you want to delay the tax, how do you know when would be a good time to increase tax? As said earlier, SG cannot afford to keep delaying (has been delaying since the pandemic years alr).

In Singapore's leadership succession process, the **People's Action Party (PAP)**, which is the ruling party, does not hold a direct vote among Cabinet members to decide the next Prime Minister. Instead, the selection is made through a consultative process. Here are the key points: 1. **Consultation Process**: - Former minister and ex-PAP chairman **Khaw Boon Wan** facilitated consultations with relevant stakeholders. - These stakeholders included current Cabinet ministers, **Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin**, and **NTUC secretary-general Ng Chee Meng**. - The views of the Prime Minister and the two Senior Ministers were not sought during this process¹. 2. **Decision Outcome**: - **Finance Minister Lawrence Wong** was chosen as the leader of the fourth-generation (4G) team by **15 out of 19 stakeholders** who participated in the consultation. - The overwhelming majority supported Wong's leadership¹. So what is the interviewee trying to say? Wait till November for the CEC meeting to decide? Looks funny ley. 3. **Next Steps**: - Prime Minister **Lee Hsien Loong** and Wong will discuss the best strategy for the next General Election. - Regardless of the approach, the plan is for Lawrence Wong to be the next Prime Minister if the PAP wins the next election¹. In summary, while there isn't a formal vote, the decision-making process involves consultation and consensus-building within the PAP¹. Pardon me May I comment, I Bertha forgot How small is Singapore and our only resources are our people, unique system of Government and a sound economy in this uncertain world.. Bertha, perhaps in your vast "experiences and knowledge in Governance and Politics" you could form a Think Tank attracting many talented Singaporeans to be an Expert Voice for Singapore .. I understood Bertha you being a western trained and influence with a keen critical analytical mind perhaps skewed to whichever sides so is natural that you will have such views which was not new but respected. I also believe that many of our Ministers and MPs were foreign graduates and is heartening to see that they have not jump straight into pushing Singapore to adopt all Western ideas and ways of thinking and perhaps Governance .. They have restraint themselves , perhaps to get may be too careful to ensure that Singapore remain Unique and may grow politically in her own pace to be a country where Politics is not about parties but about being A Nation where the Government and Oppositions will be part of the cabinet in the near future .. Let's think out of the Box .on how Political system may evolve ...... Many thanks for your patience
To succeed in A.I , ability to make smart Questions is key. But many voters dare not question. Its a deep problem. We must not say its ballessness. That is unfair to say of them. Maybe they are shy. Or are they waiting for permission to give themselves the permission to think? Welcome to the age of A.I. 😅
Put HDB policy back to the basic principle n target Affordable public housing for all Singaporeans n not compete with private real estate companies 99 year lease for the first buyer n transferable to immediate off brings to continue another 99 year lease Affordable rental from HDB is a second priority
Leasehold property means once time is up, the lease will revert back to the landowner. What you are suggesting is a perpetual leasehold ie equivalent to a freehold property. You pay peanuts and you expect to stay in a freehold property in land scarce Singapore? There are 2 types of HDB rental right now. Rental by HDB or by owner. Rental by HDB is already very affordable. Are you suggesting government to intervene for rental by owner too?
One of the reasons why Sg $ has such high exchange rates vis-a-vis neighbouring nations; is due to the value of Singapore's real estate. Their corporations - large and small have no faith in their currencies. They and MANY global corporations 'parked' their capital in Singapore-domiciled banks. This made Singapore the No. 2 Direct Foreign Investment destination by US $ valuation. No. 1 is USA because only she can print US $. Think about that. It isn't China or Japan or Germany. How much US $ is remitted to their respective state-domiciled banks due to their economic output ? Yet Singapore is miles ahead of No. 3, China. Why ? It is almost a certainty; many of these Letters of Credit are directly paid into the respective corporations banks accounts domiciled in a bank located inside Singapore's jurisdiction. There must be a mind-boggling sum of $$$$$$$$$$ being remitted daily to banks located in Singapore. I can safely guess most of the motivation stems from Tax Planning or Tax Evasion for a truer meaning; especially for US Corporations. I can also guess many of these corporations accept payments in Sg $$$$$$ to avoid scrutiny by US Federal Reserve or Authorities. The impact of so much Sg $ being 'internationalise" must be mind-boggling. But it has a huge benefit for a small economy; the currency attracts high demand. Or literally speaking, our monetary authority can write Sg $1 M paper or digital cheques and there would be a queue of folks lined up to buy. For a nation that has to import ALL its commodities to feed, clothe and house citizens, this translate into buying other folks materials & output; at a cheap price. This reduces the cost of tiles for an MRT project or your home renovation. This sort of gives one an idea why Prime Minister Mahathir was so cheesed-off at the price Singapore paid for Malaysian water - when converted to Sg $$$$$. He would be much less cheesed-off if 3 Malaysian sens is = 9 Singapore cents. Then he can crowed every morning what a bunch of ass-holes economists - are doing over in Singapore. In conclusion - the insinuation is - Mahathir IS the ass-hole. If the TOTAL real estate values in Singapore is pathetically under-valued, overseas folks would have MUCH LESS confidence in our $$$$; because some of those liquid cash are certainly being converted into real estate holdings to earn capital returns ( there's no capital-gains tax - if you're savvy enough ). As a HDB owner, you buy 2 or maybe 3 units in your life time; but you need to eat everyday. Just compare the price of a plate of fried Hokkien Mee in Singapore and in Johore Bahru. It probably cost 10 Malaysian Ringgit and 5 Singapore Dollars. Unit for unit comparison, it costs twice as much to eat take-out food in Johore. Dont forget, an Malaysian employee do not earn twice - in unit terms - the monthly salary of his equivalent job-holder in Singapore. This subject - HDB pricing - is something not easily understood by common folks who struggle daily under a salary only to see foreigners living in up-scale condos, driving flashy cars and dining in expensive restaurants. Citizens of Zurich (Switzerland), Honolulu (Hawaii), Monte Carlo (France) lived with the same problem - ie; Envy. "money" parks there; citizens KNOW it and the worse effect is - they DON'T get to spend any of it. You can always get a 2nd job - as a citizen there are no restrictions. Many foreign employment-pass holders wished they could but Sg laws forbid it. There is plenty of reasonably well-paid occupations on a part-time job basis. PLENTY of other cities would loved the position enjoyed by this city-state Singapore. There is no dispute over this. We just have to work our asses off - there's no choice on this subject.
HDB became a time bomb when it was funded by CPF money. Making Singaporeans "feel rich" through an unsustainable property bubble is a big mistake,. When the "bomb" explodes (within the next 10-15 years) there will be "blood on the streets".
I find this confusing, on one hand you find the policies of processing is confusing (which I do agree) on the hand you cannot see the big idea from the new team. Not all policies introduced are going to work on the ground even with the best intentions but it still needs to be tested and you never know if this is going to be the next big idea. The next big idea comes from little ones formulating with changes in between. I do agree with Bertha about the selection of the presidential candidate. There are just too many “qualifications” before a candidate can qualify. I think the way Iswaran and specially TCJ cases were could be better handled and I think LHL realized this. Honestly, how many in the private sector is willing to forgo that fat paying jobs and open themselves to public scrutiny. How many of these Tan See Lengs are prepared to just dive into this. So that leaves you with only the talent in the public sector. Remember how the Keppel executive was thrown out of PAP after word got around he was not the most favourite guy to work with in SAF, in the intro of the new faces? Anyway this is a new political era in which public scrutiny with all the social media attention is more intense. The 4G generation and particularly PM LW (my school mate in HBS) need to galvanize his team and show us how he’s going lead us. I too dunno him but give him and his team a chance to demonstrate their worth and judge after that….continuity is not a bad thing given you’re so new.
Have we not succeeded over the last 6 decades since indeoendence? Yes..wexate not perfect but do not just give your " opinion" on these shortcomjnhs but share your thoughts about hiw we can improve (which is still your opinion). Let the readers decide..
Time to look at the education system ... train for the future and not train according to the past ... Is this meant to be one where the interviewer ask questions, or is this a dialogue? Seems like the facilitator can't wait to show that he knows things. If this is rhe former, let the guest speak please.
We can't appease everyone. So long as pap does a reasonably good job in ensuring the population is taken cared of and we have a right mix of immigrants. Also the economy continues to thrive amidst the geopolitical shift and the pap leaders continue to have a forward thinking mentality.
is the host interviewing bertha or himself ? It is ok to steer and lead the interview but not ok to offer so much of his opinions when the interviewee has so much to offer. Mr host has to go for media training...............
Dr Tan See Leng took a large pay cuts to join politics. He must have loved the country and the people for this decision. Not just about the Govt trusting him. Please credit Dr Tan with that bold decision of his!
LKY also said that. If PAP is replaced one day, they must continue to keep watch because if the elected opposition became the ruling party and they cannot do better, Singapore will know within 1 term. PAP must be ready to take back the government. So he started the 2-keys system to unlock SG reserve because within 1 term, an incapable ruling government can finish everything we have saved for years.
LKY also said before his passing on, 'I can guarantee for this 50 years PAP will still be in charge, but for the next 50 years, he said there is no guarantee that it will remain in power.'
The public sector is focused on "process and structure" (private sector is focused on "effectiveness and efficiency"). Considering this IT and AI should be used to reduce the size of the civil service.
Weird line of questioning. The questioner would ask questions like what changes you like to see and at the same time qualify that the people in the status quo are already so fantastic always acting with good intentions. I mean if that was the case, why bother to seek change? For example, the questioner suggested that people from the outside should come in but they may not be well tested as scholars. I mean, why the hell do you want untested people to come into the system? Or why are scholars so well tested. If they are so well tested why look for outsiders? I guess what this interview show is Singaporeans themselves don't know why they want change but at the same time mouthing they want change.

Wonderful conversation and insights from these two veteran journalists.
we are here to listen to Bertha... stop adding your thoughts to the point of trying to redirect what she says!
Host is interruptive. More of interviewee rather than interviewer in this session
Yes I would concur..
I also agree
I agree! She had to tell him she was trying to explain. This isn’t a debate. The host talked too much!
to the point of even trying to redirect what Bertha is saying!
its the editing, relax
Damn...Berta would've made one hell of an opposition member. Well-spoken, full of life experience, relatable, logical, objective, sense of humour and fair. She's amazing.
Bertha Henson besides being an excellent ex editor and journalist has an unequal brilliant mind. She is a treasure trove of wisdom
Maybe she should go create an icon or a brand for SG.

In other words, the host wanted his views to be endorsed by Bertha.
Please do more of this kind of interview. We need more constructive interview and eye opening ideas that can develop for our nation.
Bertha went to school with me. Never did I know ,now that I live in Australia she is such a high-profile person 😊
Masterful use of the banyan analogy by Bertha
I concur w several of the comments here: it was nice to hear the views of Bertha, but the interviewer Viswa certainly need to exercise restraint. At some point, I was wondering is he going to let Bertha talk, or he is more interested in giving himself the platform to say his own thing? 😅
contrary to a lot of the criticism here, i thought bertha brought up a lot of good points. viswa needs to improve his questioning style as an interviewer. he needs to understand this interview is not about him, it's about bertha.
he's being a moderator and he is steering the interview by giving flash points and having bertha then expand upon and navigate further.
Yes agree! I didn't like the way he kept interrupting Bertha, and she on some questions didn't finish answering them completely!
I think the interviewer was kind of rude .🙄
I concurred ! He should be interviewing and not driving his opinion for an agreement.
😅@@karenkwok583

Not all are good, some even goes backwards instead of improvement. Especially the customer service, not every 😅 things can be done through digital or AI services... It seems like very rigid, and are not helpful in answering problems. After all still need customer services officer assistant to answer the call. It take up a lot of unnecessary times and it is not improving but backwards in services. Certainly things digital can't give you answers to enquiry left more doubts and frustrated. This are the set backs in this digital Age.
Wish he would stop interrupting BH!
She did brought out the IRSWRAN and TAN case which is abit uncleared really good and daring...their cases should not be under carpet
If I sum up her best points: transparency and accountability, let's hope people vote based on their best interests.
Also, there will always be a "cheaper" (no CPF) foreigner who will get the job.

took me a few starts and stops to watch the interview
it reiterates and emphasises why i dun follow politics too closely and get emotional
there are more constructive ways to spend time and help SG to succeed in other ways
What she said is generally correct.
Shows you are part of the problem.
The guest is saying what she observed today, till now. So of course in the future anything is possible. What she said is based on her observations. So the Fact remains and you cannot debunk her. Singapore has no Big Ideas up to today
Oh that's because you are not the 40%. So you totally don't understand the 40%. Blinded
That's why they change hands just a little before an election, such that it'll play into one's uneasiness when people decide on their votes.
13:45 im trying to answer lah babe 😂

She should write books about her experiences with politicians and people.

In Singapore's leadership succession process, the **People's Action Party (PAP)**, which is the ruling party, does not hold a direct vote among Cabinet members to decide the next Prime Minister. Instead, the selection is made through a consultative process. Here are the key points:
1. **Consultation Process**:
- Former minister and ex-PAP chairman **Khaw Boon Wan** facilitated consultations with relevant stakeholders.
- These stakeholders included current Cabinet ministers, **Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin**, and **NTUC secretary-general Ng Chee Meng**.
- The views of the Prime Minister and the two Senior Ministers were not sought during this process¹.
2. **Decision Outcome**:
- **Finance Minister Lawrence Wong** was chosen as the leader of the fourth-generation (4G) team by **15 out of 19 stakeholders** who participated in the consultation.
- The overwhelming majority supported Wong's leadership¹. So what is the interviewee trying to say? Wait till November for the CEC meeting to decide? Looks funny ley.
3. **Next Steps**:
- Prime Minister **Lee Hsien Loong** and Wong will discuss the best strategy for the next General Election.
- Regardless of the approach, the plan is for Lawrence Wong to be the next Prime Minister if the PAP wins the next election¹.
In summary, while there isn't a formal vote, the decision-making process involves consultation and consensus-building within the PAP¹.

Put HDB policy back to the basic principle n target
Affordable public housing for all Singaporeans n not compete with private real estate companies
99 year lease for the first buyer n transferable to immediate off brings to continue another 99 year lease
Affordable rental from HDB is a second priority
@@summerapple7062 The structure will not last indefinitely, especially considering the "shoddy construction work" in Singapore.
LKY also said before his passing on, 'I can guarantee for this 50 years PAP will still be in charge, but for the next 50 years, he said there is no guarantee that it will remain in power.'
PAP IS GOOD NO COMPLAIN 😊
This channel is so underrated
The public sector is focused on "process and structure" (private sector is focused on "effectiveness and efficiency"). Considering this IT and AI should be used to reduce the size of the civil service.
Why talk so much on Tan Chuan Jin and touching so little on the corrupted minister's case?
Weird line of questioning.
The questioner would ask questions like what changes you like to see and at the same time qualify that the people in the status quo are already so fantastic always acting with good intentions. I mean if that was the case, why bother to seek change?
For example, the questioner suggested that people from the outside should come in but they may not be well tested as scholars. I mean, why the hell do you want untested people to come into the system? Or why are scholars so well tested. If they are so well tested why look for outsiders?
I guess what this interview show is Singaporeans themselves don't know why they want change but at the same time mouthing they want change.
