Hey everyone, I hope you’re all well and healthy! I had some difficulties to record new videos the past months but yesterday I managed to set everything up again. Today I can finally present you one of my favorite pieces in the piano repertoire, Ravels "Ondine" from Gaspard De La Nuit. Ravel really managed to make the piano sound like something completely new, like something no other instrument can reproduce. The sheer amount of notes make it quite hard to make this piece sound like it was intended to be. One day I‘ll present you the entire Gaspard suite, I promise! Merry Christmas and a happy new year, stay safe!
This is phenomenal Mr. Bromaba, I can picture the ocean with your performance Could you play Les Jeux d'eaux de la Villa d'este? It's a rare composition Franz Liszt made. His composition has a lot of impressionism elements; in addition, Maurice Ravel was inspired by it
3:48 This part is probably where the mermaid got sad and angry at knowing that the sailor is married (Ondine is a poem, really interesting. Try reading Gaspard de la Nuit, they're poems)
@@theowinckel I have played piano for about 8-9 years and I can say that feux follet easily not the hardest piece ever. The hardest piece is probably sorabji's symphonic variations.
this is the interpretation of this piece that's finally convinced me to give it a go myself. something about the way you play this seems more relaxed than other performances, there's more clarity to the sound somehow. it's given me some hope that this may be doable for me, so thank you for that. (not to downplay the difficulty though, i'm sure this will take me months, and i can only imagine how much work it took you to get something this hard so crisp & clear)
Best performed version of Ondine along with Samson Francoise..soft and shimmering throughout! Cant wait to hear the rest of Gaspard! Thank you Magnus Baumgartl !!
Hello Magnus. You took me to another dimension with this wonderful execution. Thank you for honoring in a such beautiful way this wonderful masterpiece.
Wow!! I am new in this channel and when I see this video I said: This person have many talent. Good Job!! Well done!! And Gaspard De La Nuit from Maurice Ravel is very INSANE
I know I'm a little late, but oh my gosh! I've recently found your channel and have been listening to some of your renditions and interpretations of so many wonderful pieces, and I have to say, you are incredible!!! This is an insanely hard piece and its amazing you can pull it off so beautifully. Awesome video and playing, to say the least
@@MagnusBaumgartl yes of course, I can tell that you work hard and you deserve every piece of recognition people give you. One day you will be up there with the big piano visualizer channels!
Damn I’ve only just found this channel, and this is geniunly my favorite interpretation of Ondine, I’ve been looking around since March for a version I liked, Valentina Lisitsas was mm favorite but this one has overtook it lol, great playing!
@@MagnusBaumgartl looking forward to it. You should check out Debargue playing gaspard ik the rippett art centre (I think it was 4 years ago). That's my fav rendition by far (yes, even better than pogo) and it was played live too!
Around 2 months. Because slow black key glissandos tend to be unsteady since you can get stuck between the keys pretty easily so it's way safer to play it with the fingers instead.
@@MagnusBaumgartlWOW 2 months?!!! thats insane! Also at many points you weren't able to hold to the "ppp" signature in the sheet music and sometimes the speed is a little slow, maybe you should post another rendition with these qualities a little more enhanced... this is not a negative review just some points to make it sound concert style otherwise you played it brilliantly

Wow! Nice job. My first piano teacher growing up used to say this is the hardest piece ever written.
It's not the hardest piece ever written but it's quite a challenge 😄 thank you!
Feux Follets is the hardest piece ever written
@@theowinckel it's just simply not but yeah both these pieces are very difficult.
@@junheecho9800 yes it is
Do you play the piano?

Good job!
You play like the devil is inside you brilliant 👏
how long did it take for u to learn this??
also, at 4:43 why did you do left hand fingerings instead of a glissando?

Great👍🏻
How can one get the midi file to produce the falling notes? (I assume it's synthesia?) Thanks.
Beautifully done, by the way.
