Viewing and managing image files is just one of the reasons why I switched to Mac 14 years ago. Back then Windows was truly hopeless in many ways but it’s caught up a lot since then. Preview is a surprisingly powerful tool built into Macs. Even just merging and managing multiple PDF documents is a simple task that I don’t thing Windows can still do yet without an extra app (maybe Windows does now but didn’t last time I checked). Oh, and my old MacBook Pro from 2008 still runs just fine with an SSD update. One of my kids still uses it as his school laptop and he does creative work on it with Photoshop and iMovie.

From 2;15 in your video I couldn't even find a window on my iPad like this. And I couldn't find Preview after I did open the photos on my iPad. Finally, you ran through this so fast without explaining where these windows are, because you've done it a hundred times and it's easy for you.

There's another type of image conversion that I do often on my Mac. I convert downloaded WebP files (for example, from the New York Times) to JPEG. I found a free app on the App Store called "WebP Converter - AnyWebP" that allows me to do this quickly. To make it work, I used the Mac's "Get Info" command on a WebP file to select the default app for opening the file to "WebP Converter," making sure to also click the "Change all" option so that every WebP file would open the same way. Then I am able to double-click on any WebP file and see a conversion window pop up. There are several options in the converter window, such as compression level. I use the same settings for all of these conversions. The app remembers what I set, so I just need to click the "Convert" button. The result comes immediately.

On windows I take it for granted however ironically you need a HeVc codec to view high efficiency videos or images .
To get around this I just open them in gimp which is open source and free. I could buy the Microsoft plug-in I guess.
Png is also a good format for Web images as they support transparency. Which in turn allows you to layer or add Web effects to the design of your page. Useful for partially preventing image theft .
That's another topic for some other day.

Does the conversion keep whatever color space the original files were in (sRGB, Adobe 1998)? And does it keep the same long edge dimension?
