That was brilliant. Funny story, im 35 and have been a Bruce Lee fan since i was about 4. Being from the UK as im sure many of the british know all the nunchaku scenes were cut from Bruce Lees VHS releases i think until hong kong legends released the DVDs in mid 2000s. So one of the greatest days of my life was when i went to my Uncles house in America in the year 2000. I went into his basement and saw a stash of old VHS tapes and saw Bruce Lee GOD 1978 version. I was 11 btw and i thought ohhh lets watch a bit of Bruce Lee. As soon as i pressed play i was shocked and was like woah i havent seen this scene in the UK before, (Bruce Lee running up the stairs with nunchakus and blue stick) my heart was racing with excitement. Then of course i saw the nunchakus in use for the first time despite seeing Bruce Lee in pictures holding the mysterious weapon for years before. Fortunately my Uncle had all his films so was able to watch all of the nunchak scenes and was honestly onw of the best days of my life haha sounds weird i know but the truth.
Fist of Fury somehow slipped through the cracks originally and the Rank release from 1982 was uncut I first saw The Way of the Dragon uncut (the fight scenes at least) when I went to Canada in 1990.
So odd, in the Australian VHS, the Nunchuku scene in Way of the Dragon was deleted, but this movie was 100% uncut for us. I mean even Big Boss was cut down a bit, but Fist of Fury remained as it was, even better than some releases as all the screams were Bruce's as heard in the Hong Kong version, and not with a mix of his and the person dubbing him in English. So many of us immigrant kids in Australia (sons of immigrants anyway) built our own version of these with pipes and chains back in the day. Memories.
I think in the original Way Of The Dragon VHS cut they cut most of the double nunchaku scene out. In all I think most of Bruce Lee films on VHS scenes were cut including some of the nunchaku bits
You did a great job, Stripey. Again, I love to come to your channel not only for the great content but also for your calm demeanor and voice tone. Great ASMR. I'm a life long Bruce Lee fanatic as well. Keep them coming!😊
Fantastic content as usual, I saw fist of fury back in the early 70s, I was a brown belt in Wado Ryu karate and a blue belt at judo, I got my first set of chucks from KOA and a book on how to use them from Fumio Demura Sensie, what a book, I worked with chucks for several years and still get them out and practice.
I’m a nunchuck practitioner my self and a huge Bruce Lee fan and WOW!! That was spot on I’ve tried to do that routine but I don’t think I have it down as great as u do my friend that was awesome 👌🏽

Brilliant Stripey !!! Although not sure the ‘woollen hat’ would offer much protection 😂 I sneaked into Fist of Fury in 1974/5 when I was 15 and next day cut our broom handle and pinched the bathroom sink chain and made a pair of nunchucks (still got them) Stripey , it’s always surprised me that Bruce’s movies never edited out the parts where Bruce swapped to rubber nunchucks and they could be seen bending under tension when Bruce had them held under his arm pit? Back in the day if someone hit a person over the head with a cosh or truncheon it was allowed ? Crazy Anyway , excellent skill mate and keep up the great work
Woow, well done Stripey!! Your Fist of Fury routine was impeccable as was your nunchaku breakdown. In addition, i loved the Stripey picture (and your hairlne) 40 years ago😂😂 Regards from Cyprus.
Top work fellow nunchakuka! That is like a tutorial in itself for anybody wanting to learn, very clear. It would be interesting to see his other routines dissected like this. Well done mate!
I remember growing up in the UK during the mid 80s, I had the Bruce Lee collection, but in every movie that had bruce using the nunchucks it was deleted. Regardless of the nunchucks, in the UK Bruce's films were heavily edited
@Stripey Rambles What up Stripey! Loving the content. One topic I would like to get your insight on is… What version of Bruce Lee do you feel is the most exploited and imitated? I’m talking character wise, lookwise, hairstyle, fighting wise… from the 70’s to now. I always noticed the imitators often aimed to blend Tang Lung’s vibe with Chen Zen as far as persona goes. Looking forward to your opinion brother!🦾🦾🦾
After discovering bruce when i was 11, I'm now 50, i was absolutely obsessed. In those early years I couldn't get any uncut versions. Cool video your edit of the fist of fury nunchaku scene was well done and your own display of nunchaku was good mate need to try that routine myself I've been practising for nearly 50 years I'm not too bad lol .all the best Stripey your friend from Scotland Pete
I have a message for you from a chinese waiter in Rome. He said " Hey, you were too fast yesterday, hey, will you show it to us again". Nice work Stripey.
Nicely done stripey ,bruce obviously emphasised the camera to enhance the motion, he moves as strikes the guys at end of swinging as if not move the chucks would bounce back at the user ,not a good idea ,especially on the bonce ,ouch ,lol great as always
Ooh, you're hard! 🤣 Never fails to make me laugh, mate. I haven't owned any nunchaku since the late eighties, my mum probably threw them out. I even had a pair of plastic ones with foam on the outside that mysteriously disappeared! Nice breakdown of the scene and you swing them better than I ever could.
Oooh You're ard showing off cos... That made me laugh 😂😂😂 Great demonstration Stripey. I think the Game of death nunchaku sequence is the most difficult. 👍🙏
Hi stripey I remember buying my first nuchaku from asian world martial arts usa the chain length was 12 inches they were perfect and they had weight on them almost replica to enter the dragon one's thanks for the memories
Hi Stripey, Brilliant routine there Mate. Don't try It with the E.T.D. Chucks. The chain Is one link to long, Ouch!. My Leather bag for the G.F.D. Chucks Is still In the making. Found It difficult to get proper photos, to copy from. But I think It will work just as well. Have a great week, and catch up soon.
Well done pal! Not seen your videos for a while, came across your channel during Covid. Bought a record player and enjoyed watching your reviews on vinyls a while back! Congrats on the nunchuck routine....go on then how many takes?!
STRIPEY, THAT WAS AWESOME!!!! As a fellow Chucka, I've never tried the Fist Of Fury routine as I always thought it was too short (but effective, LOL) for my taste. Anyway, thanks for the breakdown, and much thanks for the show!!! I'm a fan!!!!
Hopefully Fortune Star don't get their knickers in a twist again over this footage 🤞 Corey Yuen Kwai the famous Hong Kong director / action choreographer is the Japanese student getting hit at 4:20. James Ferman and his chums at the BBFC would hate this 🤣 Thankfully we don't need to worry about him or his insane nunchaku policy anymore. He obviously had massive issues with Bruce. Nunchaku routine looked great Stripey. Need to find my old heavy wooden chucks which I've had for at least 30 years and give the routine a go. If i don't post any videos or comment in the future you will know something went seriously wrong 🤣
Thanks Bud. It's al good, mate. The use of the FOF footage used is transformative (I think) all though the fair use on TH-cam is broken, but, so far so good. James Ferman & the guys can do one 🤣their idiotic policies used to pi** me right off. Be careful with the wooden chux pal, they can hurt 😉 Cheers Pal 👍
@@StripeyR it is crazy that fortune star flagged that ETD clip from one of your previous videos. They only own the rights in a few territories compared to Warners. I’ll be careful Stripey. I remember getting cracked countless times with those wooden nunchaku. The foam ones were developed for a reason 🤕
Brillant stripey obviously right up my alley, can I just say that your fist routine with heavy wooden chucks is excellent. Yes I have practiced the fist routine and way double chucks and ETD, got to be done when you love chucks as much as me. I have a pair of fist chucks bought from exchange and mart around 45yrs ago, I wouldnt call them exact replica but pretty damn close and they are wooden The last pair he uses that bend and are ribbed how he used them well god knows, I have a very flexi pair of rubber ones and they are really difficult to control, his look like a spring covered in vinyl, very strange. Once again excellent nunchuck display not so easy with wood.
Thank you, mate. I thought this one would interest you. (we do love our chux) I agree, regarding the bendy chux at then of Fist and the set used in Game (they look so light to me) Have you had any joy with the Kung Fu Suit? Speak soon pal 👍
Well done Stripey. Brilliant routine it looked amazing haha 😃 I watched Bruce's nunchuck routine by 2.5x speed the slowest one and with all the little breakdowns counted 21 moves. Funnily enough i did the same for yours and counted exactly 21 moves. It did luck very similar 😀👍. I played the full version on another TH-cam video of Bruce's at full speed but this time counted 22 moves. So unless i counted an extra one or missed one, I'm not sure. At first i thought it was around 18 moves but know I'd say its more 21. I just bought myself some Yellow String Game Of Death chucks, as I've not got any like this. Can't wait to see the difference between them and the chain ones. They should be arriving in the post soon. 🙂
Hi, where did you buy the yellow string nunchaucks please ? I’ve also been looking to buy a pair but online stores are mostly selling foam style or they don’t quite look the same as Bruce’s and the ones that Stripey got as a gift that are hung on the wall Thanks
Hiya. Just to let you know there not exactly the same as Stripey's unfortunately as I only realised recently they have a short black string in the middle compared to the ones Stripey has with the longer yellow string in the middle. I'm going to look online and see if I can get the exact same ones as Stripey as these are good but could do to be a tad longer. Nice and lightweight though. If I struggle to find them I'll ask Stripey personally how he got them. 😉 Chow
@ Thanks for that 👍 I’ve looked and looked but can’t find any same as actual movie ? They aren’t wooden they’re plastic /vinyl covered with a cord same as Stripey was gifted Bruceleeclub online does some similar but are advertised as ‘toy’ so I guess are lightweight ? Keep searching 👍🙏
Hello Stripey, from me (Liam, 30 yrs old) an Eskrima practitioner in Australia. I just want to ask you about a scene that I paused at 4:43. I've paused this scene many times using many different formats like VHS and also digital downloads etc. What I notice is: the nunchaku batons seem odd in appearance, as if they've physically been "inverted" after a bit of use before being connected again with a chain, as in, the tapering goes from big to small ..... rather than the traditional "baseball bat style" [which is often how some "chucks" are referred to from what I've read]. Do you think that this set of nunchaku set are an existing set of the "bubble grip nunchaku" .... but got SO worn out that the chain had to be put on the opposite ends of the batons of the already made-for-screen nunchaku? It's just something I've always noticed and it's bothered me a bit!!! All the best from down here in Aus! - Liam
Hi Mate. I have no idea, but you're spot on (maybe the angle were seeing it). They definitely look fatter at the chain end (which is odd) I may bring this up on my Saturday comments video. Take it easy down there, mate Cheers 👍
@@StripeyR Thanks for bringing up this topic on your Saturday (today's) video! I also found the other comments to be very interesting! I'm glad we're always thinking about everything that's gone into the filming of the great Bruce Lee's movies. Greatly appreciated, and back at ya - I hope you're doing well!! - Liam
I also wanted to give you an extra bit of information about The Way Of The Dragon (when available on VHS in the late 90's) which you most probably haven't heard about unless people are constantly commenting to you *exclusively* from Perth, Western Australia! - There was a short VHS version of TWOTD in Perth available from places called Video-EzE/Video Ezy, and Civic video... and the title of the film had been changed to "Bruce Lee In Italy" (even though his character was [of course] named Tang Lung). I didn't think anything of it at the time.... but GOSH I wish I'd kept the video covers as proof and even as collectibles. They're out there, surely! But I'm guessing you'd only be able to get them from Perth, seeing as the video cover also said "PERTH EDITION" in red-lettered capitals!
Looks bang on to me Stripey, these heavy chucks are very similar to a pair I have, except mine are smooth batons rather than the ridged. Mine are also ball bearing speed chucks too. Hurt like buggery when you twat your elbows with them! LOL! Great routine pal, & btw do you know how the sound effects of Bruce's whirling nunchakus was done? Always wondered how that was achieved. Cheers pal!
Hi Stripey hope you are doing well, great break down to fist of fury, my late fathers favourite bruce lee movie, just looking at your awesome content mate brings back so many memories, i actually hand sketched the cover of the original rare rank video library cover, back in 86 when i started taekondo, I'm a professional sketch artist, portraits mostly, I've drawn a lot of Bruce Lee portraits and gave them away, back before the Internet in early 90s 91ish, anyway i missed that comp video mate i got notification for this break down video, I'll have a look through your profile videos mate, have a great evening pal 💯🙏👍👍👍👌👌👌⭐⭐⭐
Stripey you are very brave to whirl heavy nunchaku, i tried when in my twenties with a hickory pair, and destroyed a lampshade and left a massive bruise on my elbow. 😅 Now how about the g.o.d routine?
By the way Darren you haven't missed a beat mate honestly brilliant smashed it completely I'm not going to lie nice one mate, respect from Ireland always Darren, ohhh and yes when I'm practising i do that fist of fury routine more than the enter the dragon routine 🙈 have a great evening and please let me know about the Competition please mate and have a great evening pal 🍻👍🙏👌👌👌👏👏💪💪💪💪
That was pretty good. The Fist Of Fury nunchuck routine is not that hard to do. I have learned all of Bruce Lee's nunchuck routines from his movies. The Game Of Death routine is probably the hardest to get down as Bruce uses a uppercut during the Game Of Death routine
Impressive, very impressive! 👏🏽 I've tried doing some Nunchuk routine...was it Bruce Lee's...well i've tried but Nope, i may say that it was a Picasso's. You know what you see but you don't understand what it is. 😅😂😅😂
Bruce was using y game of death as experimenting, the nunchucks don't come in to it, before enter the dragon, he was thinking, next project, sorry stripey, will you forgive me, Stephen Scotland ❤
What me really gets me ,as a dard fan as Bruce lee, we have to deal with, the real Bruce lee, question is ? Why in 2024 why are we talking about a man why died in 1973 ?

At first i thought it was around 18 moves but know I'd say its more 21.
I just bought myself some Yellow String Game Of Death chucks, as I've not got any like this. Can't wait to see the difference between them and the chain ones. They should be arriving in the post soon. 🙂
Hi, where did you buy the yellow string nunchaucks please ? I’ve also been looking to buy a pair but online stores are mostly selling foam style or they don’t quite look the same as Bruce’s and the ones that Stripey got as a gift that are hung on the wall
Thanks
Hi there. I bought them from eBay for £21.01.
Thanks 👍 I tried eBay without much luck ?
Let us know how good they are please when they arrive , cheers
😉 Chow
@
Thanks for that 👍
I’ve looked and looked but can’t find any same as actual movie ?
They aren’t wooden they’re plastic /vinyl covered with a cord same as Stripey was gifted
Bruceleeclub online does some similar but are advertised as ‘toy’ so I guess are lightweight ?
Keep searching 👍🙏
maybe Stripey should do a wee video nunchaku tutorial :)
They definitely look fatter at the chain end (which is odd)
I may bring this up on my Saturday comments video.
There was a short VHS version of TWOTD in Perth available from places called Video-EzE/Video Ezy, and Civic video... and the title of the film had been changed to "Bruce Lee In Italy" (even though his character was [of course] named Tang Lung).
Cheers pal!
Well done stripey because if I did that now I would have knocked myself out😂
You will have to slow your routin down so we can see side by side comparrison he he .great video
Brilliant ! thats all i have to say ! apart from i have the same pair they are now 30 years old !
Thanks Pal 👍

@@AmandeepSahota-i5k 😅🤣😂
Cheers, mate. The breakdown is something different, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
The competition winner will be drawn on Saturday, my friend. Good luck 👍
I have tryed the routine lol 😅🤣
Cheers Pal. I've not tried the Game of Death routine (I may have to look into this) Thanks 👍
Looked bloody good to me !! I certainly ain't gonna argue with you whilst you're packing them !!!
😅🤣😂Cheers Pal 👍
Impressive, very impressive! 👏🏽
I've tried doing some Nunchuk routine...was it Bruce Lee's...well i've tried but Nope, i may say that it was a Picasso's. You know what you see but you don't understand what it is. 😅😂😅😂
😅 I know what you mean, mate. Cheers 👍
Bruce was using y game of death as experimenting, the nunchucks don't come in to it, before enter the dragon, he was thinking, next project, sorry stripey, will you forgive me, Stephen Scotland ❤
Go on my son!!! lol
What me really gets me ,as a dard fan as Bruce lee, we have to deal with, the real Bruce lee, question is ? Why in 2024 why are we talking about a man why died in 1973 ?
Let me get my (foam) nunchucks …
I won't be watching you again
Cheers stripes awesome pal 👍
Brilliant 👍
Thank you 👍
