  • Hi guys!
    In this video I'm showing how I transfer in the car. One thing that we need to pay attention is pants because as you can see my pants went a bit down by moving. We always have to check and because I have leggings on it's easier that they would move. Anyway, my spasticity here was a bit higher than normally.
    Let me know what you think!
    Thank you for watching!

    Thank you for doing this video. I sort of copied your technique and finally did my first transfer without a board.

    Tend to your feet before the transfer by placing them in the floor board before shifting out of the chair. This will reduce your load a bit, prevent twist fractures, and it will be FAR smoother overall.

    Hey there. How are you doing? Doing good by the looks of it. The challenging part is putting your WC in the car having to break it down, right?
    I was curious about something. Not that you need it because I can see you don't. But, have you ever used a sliding board for this for lateral transfer? Also, I saw your steering wheel. I could see it has been adapted somewhat. Is the accelerator and brake operated on the wheel? You've demonstrated that you do have lower extremity control but with spasticity at times and I didn't know if you could still apply the foot pedals or not. Like with me, I came to realize, with nostalgic remorse, I probably won't be able to drive a manual transmission anymore not being able to use LLE for clutch and brake due to decreased functionality.

    • @SandraHwheelchair
      @SandraHwheelchair  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! Sorry for late response. Yes, the thing now is this wheelchair I can't get it myself inside of the car...either too heavy for me at the moment or too big for my door's car. Anyway, in this case spasticity can be an obstacle sometimes and slow me down in my transfer or few times happens that helps me get a bit faster my legs in. Even if I can have a bit of lower functionality not possible to use the normal pedals...I need really good function for that and considering that I have spasticity I wouldn't do that anyway because you never know when spasticity comes so I found it really dangerous. For that matter I have a protection for the feet pedals when I drive. Yes, the gas is like a small steering wheel on the steering wheel (paraplegic adaptation even though I'm quadriplegic but that's because I have a bit of function in wrist and fingers in lift hand) and the brake on the side of the steering wheel. I think is better to drive all with the hands in cases like mine and yours and automatically...it makes it even easier to not need to change the gear. You'll get to find your way of driving...I wouldn't believe myself that I can drive like this and that I would pass the exam. Are you doing now for drive licence or are you planning to do in the near future?

    • @lj8902
      @lj8902 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SandraHwheelchair Late reply? No worries. Yes, was thinking the same about the spasticity and it being unsafe to operate the pedals. I knew there was something unique with your steering wheel, just haven't seen that particular setup before. I drive now and have done so for many years. Have an automatic transmission, so 2 pedals and can operate both with RLE. My rheumatologist was surprised that I didn't have an adaptive setup. I don't believe I'll need one in any foreseeable future. Getting a WC in and out of a car is difficult, one reason I drive a minivans. Can toss WC in without having to break it down. Folding WC like yours are convenient but drawback is they are generally heavier. Side note, how are things in your area? Looks bad on the maps showing where people are sick. Getting bad here. Be safe...

    I’m not very educated about paralyzation... I’ve been told that A Quadra plegic doesn’t have any use of their legs or their hands/arms. And it makes sense to me since quad means 4 and para means 2. Anyway I’ve only been paralyzed for a little over a year. I’m a T2 complete and I’ve always been told I was a paraplegic and not a quadriplegic. My problem is not getting in and out of the car but getting the wheelchair in and out of the car. I too have an ultra light chair.

    • @SandraHwheelchair
      @SandraHwheelchair  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! yes you've been told correctly but also that can differ. I met quadriplegic C7 but had fully use of hands. I'm C6 and I don't have full use of my hands but I can do a bit. Often people when they see me they assume I'm a paraplegic. If you practice and train more you will be able to transfer the wheelchair too.

    Nicely done! The spasticity is not so helpful it seems. I am fortunate there I think although maybe there are times that having a rigid leg is better than a floppy one.
