  • Lance Carr - a Colorado gamer with a rare form of muscular dystrophy - was at home playing video games one afternoon when a fire turned his life upside down.
This year at I/O, we’re celebrating Lance’s resilient return to gaming. Over the last year, Lance collaborated with a team of Googlers to co-create a new technology that uses MediaPipe and Tensor Flow Lite to turn facial gestures into mouse movements. The resulting solution is now open-sourced and available for everyone to game and create with.

This is so cool! I have MD as well and play classic wow. It's so comforting to know that these solutions exist for when my disability progresses to the point of requiring this. I genuinely thought I was going to have to say goodbye to one of my hobbies in the future.

I've known of Lance Carr thru actor David Hewletts livestreams. We heard of a secret Google project and discussed the horrible disabilities interface on Apple iOS. Thank goodness Google is giving this a high priority! Love this community

You are why Gameface was created my MD brother, as you know finding ways for people like us to participate is really hard so I thought this up and then worked with Google to get it just right.

Thank you for describing the benefits of this accessibility approach, Lance. I'm more confident than ever that AI is a pivotal field which I would like to contribute to in some way. This is exactly what technology is for; enabling ourselves and others.

reminds me of the microsoft connect's abilities but with much greater detail. I know there was a time where the connect hardware was used aftermarket by opensource people and scientists applying it to other problems. I commend google for Developing this technology and helping this cool man!

Gameface of God and of Gosh. Who you are in the gameface of God isn't who you are in the gameface of Gosh... Big topic.
Regarding having a profile system that reduces sign language and interpretations of communication to just a single direction signal; profiles for records and content easily moved by internet activity like the clouds blow it away. A gameface profile and how it existing would be like predicting the quantum position of it's location while it's in perpetual movement from the clouds. (Like, a summary screenshot filing system for profiles; not like an instant replay (but that's cool too)).
Like, government spending and congress social interactions isn't 'Activision Blizzard', because it's extremely light like humidity and tropical mist (not snow storms nor hurricanes (211 isn't gameface? Hmm...)).

Fantastic tech, I just downloaded it to try, but was disappointed to see it doesn't work to control your mouse in Windows. Am I missing something or is this just the API that needs to be integrated into games? Seems a wasted opportunity as people who need help playing games with this tool would also find it useful in Windows.
