I think your game is cool! One suggestion would be moles. My mole is my most defining feature and I can never feel represented by games . I think it would be cool do have different mole sizes you can move around the face. Awesome game though :)
Many indie Solo developer do multiple tasks. For example on my game I do 3D models drowning the texture, code. And all the other parts that game need yes it may not make the music 🎶 and sound yet but we do all kinds of task as Solo developer's.

For diversity, as an adult with acne, I think it could be nice to add it, and things like freckles,scars, moles. It helps a lot with seeing ourselves in the art. Edit: Also in a future more complex game, I'd love to see adding walking canes and other mobility aids. As someone who needs them I think I'd be super great :)

I'd like to add with heterochromia, that a lot of games will just give you individual whole eye colouring options, when some heterochromia is flecks or even half an iris (like mine)
hair is the easiest way to add diversity. my personal struggle in games is being mixed race and having curly hair that doesn’t look like caucasian curls but isn’t as big or poofy as textured hair- and also a lack of bangs/a fringe! ive never had any, my hair just kinda falls down 😂 maybe side pieces could replace that? also there’s so many fun braid and bun hairstyles- textures or not! i’m only about half way through but some other diversity/not diversity but customisation ideas: - freckles and moles - dimples - hearing aids - head coverings - random prominent features (like collarbones, a double chin stuff like that) - piercings are always fun - gap tooth option for open mouths? -body types 11:30 nvm on stuff like chin and prominent features! wow!
im white as fuck but i got that curly hair as well and i feel u! its either barely wavy options or 4c 😭 like babe im a mix of 2c and 3b hair i need more options than that 😅

Singletons, whether in GODOT or Unity(not sure bout Unreal so can't confirm) work really well as an overall "Save" system or Game Manager backend that keep information from scene to scene.
One of my favorite things about the Coral Island design philosophy is their focus on the beauty of "flaws." Suki has stretch marks, Mark has facial scarring, my bestest boy most husbando Raphael has absolutely no control over his facial expression and his default pose is an example of physical selfsoothing. I love my little solar punk island play house.
Your next challenge: - Shaders. You already have awesome pixelart talent, and you are getting the grasp over scripting. Learning Shaders early, I am inclined to think that it could push your existing artistic skills way further with basic techniques, and help you plan future possibilities. Example: rainbow gradients over your grayscale characters, with the gradient adapted to the time of day.
Another feature: applying a shader to create a white highlight over hovered/selected items, instead of scaling them larger (which is a little jarring).
I know it’s not technically diversity in a traditional sense but as a goth I find it difficult in games to get hair options like bats nests and v bangs but especially for makeup with things like grey contour, trad goth eyebrows, eyeliner, and really pointy lips. It would be great if you could add in some trad goth makeup and clothes options and also just options for different alternative fashions and subcultures. Often being part of a certain subculture can be tied to someone’s sense of self so it makes me feel a lot better when I have options that make me connect to a character and a game a lot more. After all, goths like cozy games too :)

LOVE love this! Playing around with it was fun; I think my only ask is maybe adding beauty spots and freckles? As a person with freckles, a LOT of games miss those out and it's always saddening. I can only imagine the same feels for people with beauty spots!

also as a person with freckles, having a full face/full body freckles option is only ever in dress up games & only in a few. i have freckles on the bottom of my feet lmao which i would never ask for but having at least the arms/shoulders/legs covered would be nice. 😊
Well, I did have a lot of ideas, except it seems other people already commented on most of them. I still have a few suggestions, though: 1. In most games like this (e.g. Stardew Valley) when changing the colors of some items (like the hair), the color isn't what you see from color picker, instead it becomes greyer than the expected color (if that makes sense). But with your game, there's nothing wrong with the hair, just maybe fix the lips :)))))) 2. Piercings (ears, nose, eyebrows, lips) 3. I'd like to be able to wear one of the more covering overshirts without the undershirt showing through :) 4. Crop tops 5. If you DO add crop tops, and this might be a lot to ask, I would really like to see G-Tubes added. A G-Tube is a feeding tube that allows medicine and liquids (e.g. Orgain) to be put straight into the stomach through a tube that was added to someone's body surgically. I have one myself, as I used to - and still do - have a lot of struggles with eating too little, and the G-Tube allows me to actually survive lol. I have never in my life seen a G-Tube as an option in any game, ever. I think not many people really know what it is or something but whatever... I just think It'd be cool for there to be a G-Tube so that I can f6.ully see myself in my character :))) 6. Pride pins 7. Different body types (btw i've been listening to i love 3000 on loop lately idk i just wanted to say that)

Watching the process behind making the whole character creator was very fascinating to me as someone who's interested in the software world [and lately pixel art because I bought SDV literally a few days ago,] and it's honestly made me really invested in whatever you do end up creating, game-wise :] As for feedback on the creator, I think a QOL feature to consider is to add an extra border around the boxed options [like the eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows, and face accessories] and a highlighted background behind the other options [face shape, hair, and clothing] to whatever you have currently selected so it's easier to keep track of things. Personally with character customization in any game, I usually cycle through most of if not all of the options for each section to see how it actually looks on the character or how it clashes with what I've already designed, and it was a little harder for me to do that without any indicators Another one for when it's more developed, adding arrows on the mini-sprite so you can view it from the other sides like in SDV would be nice, although I get that it wouldn't have been very feasible to add that onto your workload for what you wanted to focus on in the creator demo since that would include having to draw dozens of extra sprites LOL Overall this has really cozy vibes and I'm interested to see where you go in the future in game development and I can definitely foresee people getting invested, because I already am fs
Creating a character creation gotta difficult without limitations ngl. I just want y'all to know you always have to limit yourselves to something manageable, and when you eventually finish whatever you working on. It'll be the greatest opportunity to expand what you had. Just keep that in mind.

I love this! It actually made me feel better about some insecurities by seeing them represented in such a casual way I guess. One thing that I thing I'd recommend is more hair options. I wasn't able to depict my straight bangs and short fluffy hair. I can totally understand why you might not want to do that, making sure it works properly sounds like a nightmare lol
I absolutely love this. Syncing both player sprite and portrait is something I wish more games would do. The player being able to have a portrait just makes me feel that much more a part of the world like the other characters, and I love being able to customize my character more. You've done an amazing job!
Oh wow, this looks like something I would see in, like, Stardew Valley! Seriously, I was able to create such a close replica to myself that it's scary, not to mention the art was so well done. I love your last 2 videos! Hope you'll make more devlogs, your art looks great! One way to break down your code in Godot (and pass information between scenes without using autoload) is to have child nodes/scenes and give them scripts too. Then you can send/receive information between nodes/scenes with signals or vars.
This is so intricately detailed and wonderful!! I'm so glad that you're trying to make the character customization diverse so that everyone can feel included, and I agree, those old customizing games felt non inclusive and I could never see myself in the character as I'm mixed with curly hair. ^^ I find it so cool how much dedication you have to creating this wonderful game!! The music is so beautiful and silly as well, like at 13:34 I would add this 2 my playlist so fast!! Haha, keep up the wonderful work you're doing amazing at it and I'm shocked with how underrated you are!! I've always wanted to make multiple games of my own but have no idea how to start, and this video rlly helps me in figuring that out at least a bit. ^_^
What a nice project. I enjoy coming across character creators and trying them out. This one's got a nice vibe and great potential. It was also fun seeing a game that opens up in its own window the way this does. I haven't seen that in ages. If you want suggestions for features to add, I have a few things I'd enjoy seeing: A bangs + ponytail combo... Or maybe a feature to choose front and back of the hair separately if you can find a way to implement it without it feeling off. Patchy facial hair and stubble options. Slightly frowning looking mouth options. An option to choose the distance between the eyes and the distance between the brows.
I'm a massive fan of this prototype! One thing I always look for in a character reator though is being able to select beards and mustaches separately. I like to mix and match, usually something with a bushy beard lol
I think a really cool thing to add would be hairstyles that either cover one eye or both, for those that like to have character with unseen features! Plus in all honesty Hair styles that cover one eye are super cool~
I played the character creator and I'm really excited that you added hair that is in between long and short. (I have hair that stops just below my ears) usually games only have long hair and really short hair! I was struggling to find something that I could suggest a change for, but one of the things that a lot of games don't do is making baggy clothes. It would be nice to have some t shirts where the sleeves aren't always touching the skin, or some pants that are really grunge inspired.

I absolutely love that you added a colour picker for more options, because in games where there is a set amount of colours, I’ve noticed as a redhead we only have one or two options for hair colour, and sometimes it’s just a slightly tinted reddish brown which annoys me.
probably not possible but i would love to see some mobility aids, like wheelchairs, canes and crutches personally im never without a mobility aid so a lot of the time they feel like part of me or an extension of myself they probably wont be visible to the headshot, but maybe for the full body mini dude? the creator is super cute and i loove love your artstyle❤

Gotta say first of all, this is so cool and I have been wanting to do something like this for AGES but don't have your skill with pixel art. For sure earned a new sub with this one. I love how many options there are, and how you can choose any color you want (I hate when there's never the right type of brown for my hair/eyes - like either light brown or black are the only options.) My suggestions that I would pick for my character if they were options: - Dimples! - More necklines for the shirts. They're all basic scoop necklines, would love to see a v-neck, square, sweetheart neckline, etc - A half up/half down hairstyle (this is my go to hairstyle in real life, so I love when it's in games). Also, more long/past the shoulder hair styles - Belts. I never see games do this, but I feel like it's a great way for the top/bottoms of the outfit to be more seamless. - Shoe color? I dunno, that could be cool to pick These are pretty nit picky, and besides the dimples I don't think most people would be super sad to see them not added. More of personal preference than actual need for representation. The shirt options too, maybe? I also wanted to say how its so cool that you're actually taking suggestions! It was really nice to open up the game and see that you had already added some of the requests I saw in the comments. Edit: also, maybe a way to see what you have currently selected? I have a bad habit of wondering, oh would this one look better, then clicking it, deciding it's worse, and then having to click through every option to find the original one I liked Edit 2: Would love a way to save my character! Don't know why, I guess I don't really need to, but she's so cute!
I would love to see long curly hair, latina style, and options for hairs with bows! I wear my hair help with a bow on the back of my neck pretty much every day, and I love it. Both of those are really rare to find in character creators so I'd love to see them! :3
A lot of people have mentioned being able to mix and match hair pieces as a potential feature, and I think a good thing to tack onto that is the ability to make one section of hair a different color from the other.

Btw I think the easter egg is fun and all, but I can see someone getting really confused/frustrated that they can’t take the shrek ears off, since I don’t think most ppl’s instinct is to type ‘No Shrek’ in. Maybe instead you can have it as almost an unlock? Where it automatically is on when you first type Shrek, but can be toggled on and off like any other item, this could also let you change the colour of the ears. Just some suggestions, great video! ❤

THIS IS SOOOO GOOODD oh my godd😭😭 character creators are my everything. whenever there is something even remotely customizable about my character in a game i will make as MUCH USE out of it as i can. an embarrassing amount of playtime on games like bloodborne for me is just in the character creator😭 and my favorite game as a kid was Tomodachi Life where the gameplay is like 50% character creating imma subscribe since the games you make seem to be up my alley HAHAHA
maybe a separate option that lets you seperate the different layers of hair to be able to mix and match or somthing like that, because maybe bangs from one hair looks good with a different hair or whatever. oh and maybe and option for Vitiligo too. i think that would be cool.
This looks like a really cool character creator! For some reason I am always very disappointed with the beard choices in creators like these, so I would suggest having many different options for different beard lengths. Also having an option to choose the mustache and the beard separately would be great
I used it, and it's a lovely character creator so far! In fact, this might be the closest I've ever come to seeing myself in a character creator. Unfortunately, when I hit done, it switches my eyebrow choice to the default one.
I'd love to see some freckles! I have freckles and I love them. Same with moles and such! I don't think either would show up on the mini but it makes sense they'd show up on the portrait. Heterochromia would also be cool! I'd also love to see ombre options for hair but i know that might be a bit more difficult to accomplish
the amount of work done is very impressive! The colors look a bit muted though and could use more shadows, highlights and saturation. A good amount of leveling adds a lot of expression to a character. My only other suggestion is using the color picker scale for lips because the lipstick options stuck to naturals for the most part, and it'd be fun to play more with makeup/rosey bright colors.
Maybe you should add different heights, more accessories,more hair(like pony tails or pigtails or buns), have heterochromia option, add what they hate or love to add some more peronality, and maybe varieties of piercings! :D
This is a great new project, if there's any leads for inspirational touchpoints I'd recommend OMM (One More Multiverse) before it's announced closure. The Blades in the Dark Character Creator falls pretty in line with some of these features. Personally, would love to use this CC in a TTRPG or for RP, and allowing for custom assets somehow for community driven inclusivity would do wonders without overstretching the core development.
You may want to add two blanks spaces for first and last name. This may make it easier in future games as you can always have the flexibility to take using names either way depending on how your game wants to refer to the character. This also could be good for a game with character relationship focus as characters could refer to you with your last name as a formality, and then swap to using first name once you establish a friendship :)

I had a blast playing with the creator. I would love to see some short curly hair options with different hair textures, couldn't find a hair that matched mine but settled with one that's kind of close. Some freckles, beauty mark, earring, and necklace options would be cool! Being able to change the background color or texture would be nice. I look forward to watching your channel and one day playing your game!
I can't grow a full beard, but was able to approximate pretty well by making the facial hair option the same color as my skin, then making it a tad darker. maybe for the facial hair, a color option could just be a slightly darker version of the skin color? In lieu of making more facial hair options. which I can see a problem with too many options congesting the UI and general experience, the other comment on hair customization sounds like an incredibly interesting idea that I think may possibly generalize to other components of character customization. speaking of hair, I couldn't get a great match, but I do want to say that the way some of these styles lay is so organic and it's really satisfying to look at. The pixel art as a whole is really quite enjoyable and has a lot of personality.
This is for real the first character creator I've used that has a good selection of hair types. It's easy to use and has so many options. But it would be great if you included an option to move the eyes closer or further apart in a certain range. And saving as a file and exporting a png would be cool for sharing creations.
wow, great job!! I would love to see piercings, and stubble for facial hair. Also to make them stackable like the other facestuff so you can have a stubble on the cheeks and still a mustache for example. For hair, those that are shaved on the sides, like mohawk and mullet. I found the buttons for picking colours to be a little off. I think on the facial hair or lips it didn't mark the colour I pointed the mouse at. And while I do appriciate a colour spectrum, I didn't find the target to be accurate.
This is really cool! I actually just a few days ago started a new Stardew Valley world and was wishing the character creator was a bit more detailed! Some things that I think could be good additions is adding the ability to move the eyes and eyebrows closer of further from each other, and maybe some neck accessories such as necklaces or scarves. I also noticed one small issue, the teeth seem to be slightly misplaced, some of the mouth options that show that the teeth should be visible just have a hole in the middle, and some of the options that shouldn't have teeth have teeth above the upper lip. Overall it's really well made! Keep up the great work!

A series of tutorials that goes in depth or a course is a great idea. I would buy it. I would love to see someone who actually explains Pixel art especially characters part by part. Clothes, hair, skin( shading and light). Also how to pick colors that fit together in a character. If you ever do it, just setup a Ko-fi account to give you something in return.

9:48 techanicaly the "natual lips" also do vary a lot, red lips, pink lips, more or less a little brown, even a bit mixed in colours, etc. I saw natural lips as red as lipsticks for example
Can you add more mythical aspects like cat ears and tail or elf ears or even pixie wings personally if a game has the peices for me to make a Kitsune (fox with multiple tails) i will and i will fan girl the entire time when i play games i use it as a reality escape but i love games that reflect reality so i try to find games that mix reality with a hint of fantasy

As a curly hair girlie, I would love more curly hair options!! My hair is kind of a boyish short, and i often have a hard time finding one that suits me. And it would also be super cool if you could add highlights/extra lil hair details like clips or hats???

For diversity, as an adult with acne, I think it could be nice to add it, and things like freckles,scars, moles. It helps a lot with seeing ourselves in the art.
Edit: Also in a future more complex game, I'd love to see adding walking canes and other mobility aids. As someone who needs them I think I'd be super great :)

I'd like to add with heterochromia, that a lot of games will just give you individual whole eye colouring options, when some heterochromia is flecks or even half an iris (like mine)
hair is the easiest way to add diversity. my personal struggle in games is being mixed race and having curly hair that doesn’t look like caucasian curls but isn’t as big or poofy as textured hair- and also a lack of bangs/a fringe! ive never had any, my hair just kinda falls down 😂 maybe side pieces could replace that? also there’s so many fun braid and bun hairstyles- textures or not!
i’m only about half way through but some other diversity/not diversity but customisation ideas:
- freckles and moles
- dimples
- hearing aids
- head coverings
- random prominent features (like collarbones, a double chin stuff like that)
- piercings are always fun
- gap tooth option for open mouths?

Singletons, whether in GODOT or Unity(not sure bout Unreal so can't confirm) work really well as an overall "Save" system or Game Manager backend that keep information from scene to scene.
One of my favorite things about the Coral Island design philosophy is their focus on the beauty of "flaws." Suki has stretch marks, Mark has facial scarring, my bestest boy most husbando Raphael has absolutely no control over his facial expression and his default pose is an example of physical selfsoothing.

You already have awesome pixelart talent, and you are getting the grasp over scripting. Learning Shaders early, I am inclined to think that it could push your existing artistic skills way further with basic techniques, and help you plan future possibilities.
Example: rainbow gradients over your grayscale characters, with the gradient adapted to the time of day.
Another example: using shaders to easily scroll freckles over the face, stains on clothing, etc.
Another feature: applying a shader to create a white highlight over hovered/selected items, instead of scaling them larger (which is a little jarring).

I know it’s not technically diversity in a traditional sense but as a goth I find it difficult in games to get hair options like bats nests and v bangs but especially for makeup with things like grey contour, trad goth eyebrows, eyeliner, and really pointy lips. It would be great if you could add in some trad goth makeup and clothes options and also just options for different alternative fashions and subcultures. Often being part of a certain subculture can be tied to someone’s sense of self so it makes me feel a lot better when I have options that make me connect to a character and a game a lot more. After all, goths like cozy games too :)

LOVE love this! Playing around with it was fun; I think my only ask is maybe adding beauty spots and freckles? As a person with freckles, a LOT of games miss those out and it's always saddening. I can only imagine the same feels for people with beauty spots!

also as a person with freckles, having a full face/full body freckles option is only ever in dress up games & only in a few. i have freckles on the bottom of my feet lmao which i would never ask for but having at least the arms/shoulders/legs covered would be nice. 😊
Well, I did have a lot of ideas, except it seems other people already commented on most of them. I still have a few suggestions, though:
1. In most games like this (e.g. Stardew Valley) when changing the colors of some items (like the hair), the color isn't what you see from color picker, instead it becomes greyer than the expected color (if that makes sense). But with your game, there's nothing wrong with the hair, just maybe fix the lips :))))))
2. Piercings (ears, nose, eyebrows, lips)
3. I'd like to be able to wear one of the more covering overshirts without the undershirt showing through :)
4. Crop tops
5. If you DO add crop tops, and this might be a lot to ask, I would really like to see G-Tubes added. A G-Tube is a feeding tube that allows medicine and liquids (e.g. Orgain) to be put straight into the stomach through a tube that was added to someone's body surgically. I have one myself, as I used to - and still do - have a lot of struggles with eating too little, and the G-Tube allows me to actually survive lol. I have never in my life seen a G-Tube as an option in any game, ever. I think not many people really know what it is or something but whatever... I just think It'd be cool for there to be a G-Tube so that I can f6.ully see myself in my character :)))

Watching the process behind making the whole character creator was very fascinating to me as someone who's interested in the software world [and lately pixel art because I bought SDV literally a few days ago,] and it's honestly made me really invested in whatever you do end up creating, game-wise :]
As for feedback on the creator, I think a QOL feature to consider is to add an extra border around the boxed options [like the eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows, and face accessories] and a highlighted background behind the other options [face shape, hair, and clothing] to whatever you have currently selected so it's easier to keep track of things. Personally with character customization in any game, I usually cycle through most of if not all of the options for each section to see how it actually looks on the character or how it clashes with what I've already designed, and it was a little harder for me to do that without any indicators
Another one for when it's more developed, adding arrows on the mini-sprite so you can view it from the other sides like in SDV would be nice, although I get that it wouldn't have been very feasible to add that onto your workload for what you wanted to focus on in the creator demo since that would include having to draw dozens of extra sprites LOL
Overall this has really cozy vibes and I'm interested to see where you go in the future in game development and I can definitely foresee people getting invested, because I already am fs
Creating a character creation gotta difficult without limitations ngl. I just want y'all to know you always have to limit yourselves to something manageable, and when you eventually finish whatever you working on. It'll be the greatest opportunity to expand what you had.

I think your game is cool! One suggestion would be moles. My mole is my most defining feature and I can never feel represented by games . I think it would be cool do have different mole sizes you can move around the face. Awesome game though :)

I love this! It actually made me feel better about some insecurities by seeing them represented in such a casual way I guess. One thing that I thing I'd recommend is more hair options. I wasn't able to depict my straight bangs and short fluffy hair. I can totally understand why you might not want to do that, making sure it works properly sounds like a nightmare lol
I absolutely love this. Syncing both player sprite and portrait is something I wish more games would do. The player being able to have a portrait just makes me feel that much more a part of the world like the other characters, and I love being able to customize my character more. You've done an amazing job!

One way to break down your code in Godot (and pass information between scenes without using autoload) is to have child nodes/scenes and give them scripts too. Then you can send/receive information between nodes/scenes with signals or vars.

This is so intricately detailed and wonderful!! I'm so glad that you're trying to make the character customization diverse so that everyone can feel included, and I agree, those old customizing games felt non inclusive and I could never see myself in the character as I'm mixed with curly hair. ^^

What a nice project. I enjoy coming across character creators and trying them out. This one's got a nice vibe and great potential. It was also fun seeing a game that opens up in its own window the way this does. I haven't seen that in ages. If you want suggestions for features to add, I have a few things I'd enjoy seeing:
A bangs + ponytail combo... Or maybe a feature to choose front and back of the hair separately if you can find a way to implement it without it feeling off.
Patchy facial hair and stubble options.
Slightly frowning looking mouth options.
An option to choose the distance between the eyes and the distance between the brows.
I'm a massive fan of this prototype! One thing I always look for in a character reator though is being able to select beards and mustaches separately. I like to mix and match, usually something with a bushy beard lol
I think a really cool thing to add would be hairstyles that either cover one eye or both, for those that like to have character with unseen features! Plus in all honesty Hair styles that cover one eye are super cool~
I played the character creator and I'm really excited that you added hair that is in between long and short. (I have hair that stops just below my ears) usually games only have long hair and really short hair! I was struggling to find something that I could suggest a change for, but one of the things that a lot of games don't do is making baggy clothes. It would be nice to have some t shirts where the sleeves aren't always touching the skin, or some pants that are really grunge inspired.

I absolutely love that you added a colour picker for more options, because in games where there is a set amount of colours, I’ve noticed as a redhead we only have one or two options for hair colour, and sometimes it’s just a slightly tinted reddish brown which annoys me.
probably not possible but i would love to see some mobility aids, like wheelchairs, canes and crutches
personally im never without a mobility aid so a lot of the time they feel like part of me or an extension of myself
they probably wont be visible to the headshot, but maybe for the full body mini dude?

the character creator is super cute! I would add a little outline or checkmark on whichever eye/nose/etc the user has selected so you know which one you are using
just spent half an hour creating myself and it was delightful, i've already seen someone else mention bangs so i'll just second those comments but it's already an incredibly lovely game
Gotta say first of all, this is so cool and I have been wanting to do something like this for AGES but don't have your skill with pixel art. For sure earned a new sub with this one. I love how many options there are, and how you can choose any color you want (I hate when there's never the right type of brown for my hair/eyes - like either light brown or black are the only options.)
My suggestions that I would pick for my character if they were options:
- Dimples!
- More necklines for the shirts. They're all basic scoop necklines, would love to see a v-neck, square, sweetheart neckline, etc
- A half up/half down hairstyle (this is my go to hairstyle in real life, so I love when it's in games). Also, more long/past the shoulder hair styles
- Belts. I never see games do this, but I feel like it's a great way for the top/bottoms of the outfit to be more seamless.
- Shoe color? I dunno, that could be cool to pick
These are pretty nit picky, and besides the dimples I don't think most people would be super sad to see them not added. More of personal preference than actual need for representation. The shirt options too, maybe?
I also wanted to say how its so cool that you're actually taking suggestions! It was really nice to open up the game and see that you had already added some of the requests I saw in the comments.
Edit: also, maybe a way to see what you have currently selected? I have a bad habit of wondering, oh would this one look better, then clicking it, deciding it's worse, and then having to click through every option to find the original one I liked

I would love to see long curly hair, latina style, and options for hairs with bows! I wear my hair help with a bow on the back of my neck pretty much every day, and I love it.
Both of those are really rare to find in character creators so I'd love to see them! :3
A lot of people have mentioned being able to mix and match hair pieces as a potential feature, and I think a good thing to tack onto that is the ability to make one section of hair a different color from the other.

- unibrow, no eyebrows, and/or some fun shapes like half-shaved, just dots, or even stars (i have mine shaven and draw on stars when i feel fancy)

Btw I think the easter egg is fun and all, but I can see someone getting really confused/frustrated that they can’t take the shrek ears off, since I don’t think most ppl’s instinct is to type ‘No Shrek’ in. Maybe instead you can have it as almost an unlock? Where it automatically is on when you first type Shrek, but can be toggled on and off like any other item, this could also let you change the colour of the ears. Just some suggestions, great video! ❤

this is a great game! the only things i can think of are more hairstyles that go just about infront of the chest, and maybe glasses like the first option but smaller? (closer to the eye) thank you so much for making this! it's really fun to play around with.

character creators are my everything. whenever there is something even remotely customizable about my character in a game i will make as MUCH USE out of it as i can. an embarrassing amount of playtime on games like bloodborne for me is just in the character creator😭 and my favorite game as a kid was Tomodachi Life where the gameplay is like 50% character creating

This looks like a really cool character creator! For some reason I am always very disappointed with the beard choices in creators like these, so I would suggest having many different options for different beard lengths. Also having an option to choose the mustache and the beard separately would be great

This is the cutest thing ever! I would adore the ability to export the images I create as .png's!
I'd love to see some freckles! I have freckles and I love them. Same with moles and such! I don't think either would show up on the mini but it makes sense they'd show up on the portrait. Heterochromia would also be cool! I'd also love to see ombre options for hair but i know that might be a bit more difficult to accomplish
the amount of work done is very impressive! The colors look a bit muted though and could use more shadows, highlights and saturation. A good amount of leveling adds a lot of expression to a character. My only other suggestion is using the color picker scale for lips because the lipstick options stuck to naturals for the most part, and it'd be fun to play more with makeup/rosey bright colors.
Maybe you should add different heights, more accessories,more hair(like pony tails or pigtails or buns), have heterochromia option, add what they hate or love to add some more peronality, and maybe varieties of piercings! :D

This is a great new project, if there's any leads for inspirational touchpoints I'd recommend OMM (One More Multiverse) before it's announced closure. The Blades in the Dark Character Creator falls pretty in line with some of these features.
Personally, would love to use this CC in a TTRPG or for RP, and allowing for custom assets somehow for community driven inclusivity would do wonders without overstretching the core development.
You may want to add two blanks spaces for first and last name. This may make it easier in future games as you can always have the flexibility to take using names either way depending on how your game wants to refer to the character.
This also could be good for a game with character relationship focus as characters could refer to you with your last name as a formality, and then swap to using first name once you establish a friendship :)

I would love to see some short curly hair options with different hair textures, couldn't find a hair that matched mine but settled with one that's kind of close. Some freckles, beauty mark, earring, and necklace options would be cool! Being able to change the background color or texture would be nice. I can't grow a full beard, but was able to approximate pretty well by making the facial hair option the same color as my skin, then making it a tad darker. maybe for the facial hair, a color option could just be a slightly darker version of the skin color? In lieu of making more facial hair options.
which I can see a problem with too many options congesting the UI and general experience, the other comment on hair customization sounds like an incredibly interesting idea that I think may possibly generalize to other components of character customization.
speaking of hair, I couldn't get a great match, but I do want to say that the way some of these styles lay is so organic and it's really satisfying to look at. The pixel art as a whole is really quite enjoyable and has a lot of personality.
This is for real the first character creator I've used that has a good selection of hair types. It's easy to use and has so many options.
But it would be great if you included an option to move the eyes closer or further apart in a certain range.
And saving as a file and exporting a png would be cool for sharing creations.

I would love to see piercings, and stubble for facial hair. Also to make them stackable like the other facestuff so you can have a stubble on the cheeks and still a mustache for example.
For hair, those that are shaved on the sides, like mohawk and mullet.
I found the buttons for picking colours to be a little off. I think on the facial hair or lips it didn't mark the colour I pointed the mouse at. And while I do appriciate a colour spectrum, I didn't find the target to be accurate.

This is really cool! I actually just a few days ago started a new Stardew Valley world and was wishing the character creator was a bit more detailed!
Some things that I think could be good additions is adding the ability to move the eyes and eyebrows closer of further from each other, and maybe some neck accessories such as necklaces or scarves.
I also noticed one small issue, the teeth seem to be slightly misplaced, some of the mouth options that show that the teeth should be visible just have a hole in the middle, and some of the options that shouldn't have teeth have teeth above the upper lip.
Overall it's really well made! Keep up the great work!

A series of tutorials that goes in depth or a course is a great idea. I would buy it. I would love to see someone who actually explains Pixel art especially characters part by part. Clothes, hair, skin( shading and light). Also how to pick colors that fit together in a character.

9:48 techanicaly the "natual lips" also do vary a lot, red lips, pink lips, more or less a little brown, even a bit mixed in colours, etc. I saw natural lips as red as lipsticks for example
Can you add more mythical aspects like cat ears and tail or elf ears or even pixie wings personally if a game has the peices for me to make a Kitsune (fox with multiple tails) i will and i will fan girl the entire time when i play games i use it as a reality escape but i love games that reflect reality so i try to find games that mix reality with a hint of fantasy

As a curly hair girlie, I would love more curly hair options!! My hair is kind of a boyish short, and i often have a hard time finding one that suits me. And it would also be super cool if you could add highlights/extra lil hair details like clips or hats???
