Lauren that was great !! Going to practice until I have it !! Can you do " Neve Going Back Again " ? One of my all time favorites !
Thanks for watching! for song request please submit to www.laurenbateman.com/faq/
Excellent tutorial. If you haven't already heard it, check out Bush's cover.
No emotion at all till she started singing the words. This song somehow instantly breaks my heart everytime and I cry profoundly sad tears.
Stevie and I share the same changes in our lives. Our children grow up and move away. And we are left alone. We realize we have given our lives for our kids and didn't think they would leave so soon and abruptly. So our heart is still emotionally attached to oir kids. And now we are faced with growing old alone.
Thanks for sharing
Thankyou so much.. please is this the same as Travis picking? If not what is the difference..
You deserve an award.. keep up the wonderful work.
It is. Yes.
I wish that you would have played a few bars at the beginning of your video. I love that song. Hearing a few bars would have positioned my thoughts to your content.
I agree, I was thinking the same thing. Other then that I subscribed because it was a great lesson. Great playing and she has a beautiful voice. A little practice on the pattern an I have a new song learned. Very great fun to the young woman.
Great Video! For me, it would be helpful to have one brief shot of the overall chord progression by name. Even it if was just 5 secs still frame, it would let me write down the chord progression. Or at a minimum, put the chord names above the pattern. - but beautiful rendition and I appreciate you putting this together for us.

Great lesson! Excellent choice of beginner picking pattern!
My experience, for what it's worth:
Thing with fingerpicking is you need to practice enough so that it is automatic. Just as said near the end of the video, if you start thinking about your picking hand while playing you will probably mess up.
A good habit is to start very slowly and repeat, snd repeat. Only when you can keep it up for a long time (minutes!) you increase the tempo (small increases!). Use a metronome to pace youself (smartphone metronome apps exists!). You might spend a few days on it, or a few weeks. You will probably sigh a lot etc, but stay with it. Because..
One day, suddenly, out of nowhere, it just starts to work without you thinking about it. You will now be free to use your active thoughts for your fretting hand.
Takeaways: 1 - Practice the right way. 2 - Be patient. 3 - You WILL succed!
Love this song and have had people request it, saying it would sound good with my folk style of singing/playing. Comfortable with my fingerpicking pattern and singing skills but... Will we be getting the guitar solo bridge for this song in an upcoming lesson? That's what I need to learn so I can put it all together, actually start performing it for others. Thanks.
That's a great little solo and breakdown. I love the live version.
Pulgar → Thumb
Indice → Index
Medio → Middle
Anular → Ring

I'm a hi-bread picker, meaning that I often use a pick, or my fingers, or both.
Because this progression always sits on top of the actual open chords, you can also use a pick, to get comfortable with the overall tempo, or flow of the song, as well as developing other beneficial techniques. It quickly becomes hard to make "noticeable mistakes"
I am not sure if this advice is actually helpful for beginners, or not, but it is worth a try, It can help you to develop pinkie strength in a more natural way.
The habits we develop as beginners, are often a part of our own "style" later on, which is not always a bad thing...

U R awesome 🩷🐦 thanks
Thank YOU!
It’s french lol😊 P(pouce/thumb) I(index) M(major/middle finger) A(Annulaire/ring finger) PIMA
Still trying my best to learn Finger Picking Style....need lots of patience 😢😢😢
Keep it up!! You can do it 😊😊😊
What kind of Taylor guitar are you playing with? Thanks!
Taylor 324ce Builders Edition
@@LaurenBateman Can I borrow $3000😂😀🤔
Move over Stevie 😉
Man, I like that guitar... It's a shame they don't make it in left-handed form -- *very* few of the Builder's Edition guitars are available in left-handed form.
I love fingerpicking. I suck at it. But I love it. My problem is twofold: 1) it's far too easy to have a dead string, which you wouldn't really hear if you were strumming, but it's quite obvious when you're picking individual strings in the chord, and 2) I can't seem to change chords without stopping my picking hand while the chord change is in progress. Of course, I can't seem to do that even when I'm strumming, so I guess that's just a general chord-changing problem for me...
Aww they don't. That stinks!
You don't stink. You are learning. It will get better with time.
🙏🎸☯️🕉️
Once the pinkie is introduced, I run.
😔😔
😂
I feel ya!😂
hello,! Can you please sing ( God sent his son)in this lesson? thank you
Not sure I know that one. Will have to look.
Isn't it an Am7 chord in the verses?
My teacher taught it to me as Am.
I learnt that Am or Am7 can be used, Am7 just gives a touch more tone on the melody/sound also Am is easier for beginners then progress to Septime
G/B means it's a G major with a B in the bass
Yes
I have stubby and short fingers which frustrates me all the time. I can hardly reach a normal sized guitar neck with a comfortable and proper hold over all the strings. I even find it quite a job to even cover the 5 strings from the A string downwards. 😢😢😢
😔😔😔
@@LaurenBateman It's actually a sad thing for me. But I still play whatever or however I can get around. Keeps me happier. And thanks to you too for some great lessons and tips in your videos. You're a gem of a teacher.
Me too I gave up and bought a keyboard lol
Fantstic clear directions and you sing it way better than stevie nicks
Thank you for watching!
Finger names are not Latin, they are Spanish (from classic guitar tradition), so it's (P)ulgar, (I)ndex, (M)edio, (A)nular, (C)hico.
Huh. I didn’t know that😊
Spanish originated from … drum roll… Latin.
@@jimdawson5299 of course it does, but since the topic was where the digit initials were coming from, they come from Spanish, and they would have been different if they came from Latin.
@@umbertocolapicchioni2467you are talking nonsense here, educate yourself, it is Latin.
Pollex, Index, Medius, Aquaristik
@@TheMicrofox Again, they are Spanish. At 3:37 Lauren was wondering if they came from Latin, but since the image clearly shows 5 initial P, I, M, A and C, they are in Spanish, not Latin, not Italian, not any other romance language, even if the first 3 or 4 might be the same initial, the 5th being C (CHICO) indicates Spanish, which is clearly a language related to classic guitar tradition.
It's Am7 in the verse. DEFINITELY NOT Am
It's Am7!!
OK. Then play it that way. 🤷♀️
Are You married😍
