      I think that we were able to just return monsters to our hand during our turn (since I think Kaiba and Yugi did it in that duel on top of Pegasus's castle"
      I also think we didn't have a limit to number of monsters we could have in play.

      I think i already said this before but as a kid i thought when your hand was empty you drew 5.....although i guess rush dueling kinda does that now so it came full circle

    • @taiwanisacountry
      @taiwanisacountry ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The craziest I went though was a guy who summoned all cards in his hands, kept drawing to have 5 cards in his hands, not only when you were out of cards, but drew a card with every card spent. Then he Stacked defence monsters to "protect" against attacks. He always demanded to start and then he literally played though his whole deck having all of the cards on the field.
      So I asks him, what is the logic behind that? Why do we have shuffles if you think you can go through and play every single card? Just flip your deck over from face-down deck mode to face-uo win mode, and declare yourself the winner.

      At least for casual play that’s one of the few playground rules me and the boys still use, as long as it doesn’t drastically alter the chain or lead to some other broken shenanigan and as long as it doesn’t become a habit. Drawing outside of the draw phase if forgotten is generally allowed if the other player asks. Of course if what happened in the video where to occur we’d laugh and blame the drinks.

    This hits me so hard. I used to “play” YuGiOh with my brother and cousins and we just did what they did on the cartoon, with no idea how the game was actually supposed to be played.
    Which was really funny when my dad brought home a precon deck so he could join in. He spent what felt like hours reading through the rulebook to make sure he knew what he was doing and the whole time my brother and I are just sayin “Come on, we’ll teach you.” But he was insistent he wanted to read the rules first. Well sure enough as soon as we started playing he realized that we were basically just making it up as we went. Had to just shake his head and resign himself to us teaching him how we played.

      Under duelist kingdom rules that is actually allowed. Pegasus copied all his cards from the Egyptian hieroglyphics. He didn't know he was reading actual summing rituals that summoned real monsters. So that's why yugi can do stuff like have his giant soldier of stone destroy the moon because a real giant soldier of stone would be able to destroy a real moon.. Also things like fusion monsters don't have an extra deck because polymerization just fuses two or more rituals together. Theoretically their are infinite possible fusion monsters.
      We know Kaiba was a better programmer then Pegasus as his duel disk is able to produce much more realistic holograms then Pegasus's holo arena. It's not mentioned anywhere but we can speculate that Kaiba was able to program his duel disk to partially limit the magical effects of the rituals. Which resulted in a stricter set of rules like polymerization only being able to summon already discovered fusion monsters.

    I still managed to lose fairly often to other friends and their own bullshit and interpretation of the rules and cards.

    I had one of those original Winged Dragon of Ra cards with the yellow back in elementary school and I basically won every duel with it, I wrote down all the anime effects on a slip of paper and because of the yellow back and no card sleeves back then, I'd just stack it towards the top of my deck, everyone knew when I'd get it but that didn't matter, the anime effects are so broken you can kinda just do whatever you want. I had a sick combo where I Machine Duped for 3 Heavy Mech Support Platforms to tribute for Ra in one turn. All of a sudden at the end of elementary school/beginning of middle school I started taking Yugioh SUPER seriously, started watching deck videos, learned about card sleeves, playmats, I stopped playing for like 2 years while I slowly built up competitive decks (for the time anyways), got sleeves, deck boxes, play mats, and I came back to the game a new man. Oh and they also came out with the legal Winged Dragon of Ra which was sick so I had to use that too.

He then gets all 10 blue eyes on the field and tried to go for game on the first turn. I told him you couldnt attack on first turn and he just threw a tantrum and then just immediately declared that "He won and he wants my rarest card.". Yeah I didnt give him anything and we never dueled again. Kids are so stupid man.
