Ha! Thanks for the shout out, Jim.
I drew one issue of Rock & Roll Comics, for Revolutionary. It was the Rolling Stones issue, and it was TERRIBLE!!! :)
Thanks for all the awesome videos!

Just this weekend I ordered Ken’s ‘Comic Book Anatomy’ book off his eBay page. We’ve exchanged a flurry of emails and he seems pretty solid. An interview would be cool.

We live in a golden age of archival collections of comics, but man someone needs to bring the best of the black and white boom stuff to the masses,. I'm always delighted when it is spotlighted on this channel.

Hey guys i love the Ken Landgraf great episode, one the most underRated Indy comic book artists and art educator, i also was one his student in the early 90's in NYC $25 buck per class, i stopped going cause i had an issue with one of his young artists, But my friend artist ED Mouzon who brought me to Ken Landgraf studio stood to the end and worked on various projects with ken exp a show by Bill Cosby called Cosby mysteries series and drew props for the cosby mysteries series, my founded memories where learning how to draw from the artist who drew the classic Metal comic thor, i learned how to light box pages and ink with a brush a lot of great memories, i also moonlighted from the out NYC outlaw comic artists and writer rich buckler @ the visage art studio with artisr creator Winston Blakely the 1st black cosmic super heroes called pozitron, look up that book super rare, again thanks for the great memories. keep up the underground comics alive!

John Jacobs of Power Comics was apparently a big fan of the Teen Titans and was particularly attached to Tara, the bratty traitor character. When she was killed off, Jacobs created his version, the mutilated Tami, who took violent revenge on his versions of Marv Wolfman and George Perez. For a probably underage teen, Tami was disturbing in her sexuality. Christianity is complicated.

I simultaneously love and hate you guys for making this video. Ever since you started this channel I have tracked down HUNDREDS of your recommendations, but ever since the Outlaw episode, Ken Landgraf books have been the at the very tip top of the list. I’ve managed to track down NYCO #1-3, Starfighters #3-5, and Nightslayer #1-2, but most of his output is super hard to find (especially living in a small town) and very expensive online. Now with this video the Kayfabe effect will make these books even scarcer and more pricey! Grrrr!!! But seriously THANK YOU for educating me on so many great books. I love this channel SO much and really dig Landgraf, Vigil, Clowes, Burns, Karnes, Marra, and all the other dudes I didn’t know about before. But one question: in this video, why did you show off the interior of NYCO 1-3 but not #4-5 ??? Those are the impossible to find issues!!!

Dan, I hope that showing these comics will also create greater awareness of them and hopefully cause a few more copies to get into circulation. The reason I didn't show off 4 & 5 is that I think the first 3 are stronger visually and I wanted to give a sample of his different books. - Jim

Ken!!! I took a night school class that he taught and then I was doing private sessions at his studio for a few summers. Early- mid 90s. Really great guy and totally didn’t give a fuck. I was 15-16 at the time and he talked to me like an adult and was super honest about the industry.

Ben Marra and I danced for a bit. AdHouse was going to publish a title called Professor Weird, or something like that. An homage to Dr. Peculiar.

Ken Langraf is a great inker. I have New York City Outlaws #1. 60 pages for a $1.00 and I paid .50 at Ralph's Records. Great video, guys!

Being from NYC I've definitely heard about Ken. I think my brother may have even worked with him at some point.
Have you ever heard of Barry Blair? He did a lot of elf comics back when. Elflord was one, Dale Keown did some work for him. I did some of my earliest inks on his comics. A certain charm to indies of the time. Imagine if they did comics today!

Thanks for this channel fellas, I love everything about it and the community of comic enthusiasts that I’m proud to be a part of. My wife is now I the habit of saying “man” all the time due to her overheating Ed’s speech patterns.

Landgraf is great, like Wallace Wood mutated through a zine machine.

Did some googling, to my knowledge he wasn’t a member of Thor. But he did a comic for them, then created some cover art for them on two albums. (and Manowar back in the day). Interestingly he didn’t do the Thor album art until 2017.

I remember seeing Thor on the Uncle Floyd Show in the early 80's. They were on several times. One time Thor himself got embarrassed, because he was that big, strong muscular guy and they had him fake wrestling with Netto and Netto threw him down, LOL. If you watched Uncle Floyd you know who Netto was. Other bands that were on Uncle Floyd turned out pretty big, like Squeeze and Bananarama (both before they had hits in the US) and, of course the Ramones were on numerous times. But Thor never really went anywhere.

You guys like wrestling... You should track down copies of the Steel Pulse series by my old friend Tom Motley---published by Acme comics back late 80s. You guys love that Sam Kieth stuff--this guy used a TON of pro white for different effects. Some of those original pages are so caked with it that over time the surface of the boards has begun to crumble away... taking the some of the published ink with it!

That Wolf Angel is actually the furry deity Eozdniw.
Jokes aside, Ken Landgraf's art style is pretty cool. Is he still active these days?
