You too, Dan!! Got a new tool organizer system for my garage! Got some work to do on my old Audi this week. Later this summer, I will tear it all apart to replace the timing chain tensioner (remove front clip, radiator, intercooler, etc) and then replace the tensioner. The OEM part wasn't built well and it's a common failure point. Should be a fun project!
Same to you! I'm just glad we are all healthy again. Getting sick twice between Thanksgiving and Christmas was rare for us. Hope that's all we have for the rest of winter!
Oh by the way I’ve been on the Big island of Vancouver er for 22 years and I cannot remember a more consistently wet, windy & bizarrely mild year especially the last 5-7 days had a 15c! Whistler mountain has received > 350 cm of snow ❄️ & I know New Mexico got hit early w Colorado opening up in early November. I thought for sure we’d get and colder December‼️ South coast expecting 6-8 feet next few days. Mud slides on Sea to Sky highway taking out homes & did N Van last month. Reservoirs almost full. Kinda normal by end of year. Expecting an another juicy windstorm tonight-better cook turkey tonight⁉️
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ERIC SNODGRASS MY Friend from Chambersburg PA. Enjoy your time with your family. Still hoping for much snowier winter outlook for East Coast USA OR no way Eric?? Santa Claus is very busy with Rudolph leading 🎉🎉😊❤
Southern California has been too mild and dry. We really need to see the subtropical jet stream to set up at some point to deliver moisture to the whole region (Mexico included)
You asked where I live. I live in the St. Francios Mts in Southeast Missouri Ozarks. Getting some much needed rain but the middle of January is what worries me. Cold dry. When will we see a good snow here ?
What value is the the soil moisture % map being calculated off of? Is there a seasonal component to that or is that a calculation based on % of a fully saturated profile and therefore a constant value to compare against? If it has a seasonal component, is there a bias currently due to normal complete saturation during Dec-Mar in many places in the Ohio Valley and IL? S IL has water standing in many fields but the area still shows up worryingly dry.
Those soil moisture maps are modeled by NASA. There are several different measuring systems that are used, but creating a gridded soil moisture product requires additional soil moisture modeling to complete the map. It is not a perfect tool and the resolution is too coarse to capture the highly variable soil types. For example, around where I live, there are fields that will have standing water in them after the smallest amount of rain, but just a mile away, the soils will be bone dry. The highly variable nature of the soil type and structure are not well represented in that map I show. So I generally look at it for macroscale issues and then verify by looking at river gauges. Great comment and question!
I have not bee impressed with the North Atlantic pressure patterns this Fall/Winter. Until we see a really solid signal of the -AO/-NAO I think we will struggle to see something significant go up the coast. Both indexes are trying to drop now - fingers crossed that we get a big Nor'easter.
Ha! Well, I am only two generations removed from England. My grandfather was the first to be born in the states and we have a lot of family in England. Wish I got to see them more.
Awesome😊👍 video Eric. Great job. Hope, you and your family have a wonderful Christmas.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!!!!

Agreed - a lot of mild Pacific air continues to overtake the region but it's loaded with water.

Merry Christmas, Robbie! this cold snap coming in early January could really increase your chances for more snow.
Merry Christmas, 🌲Eric and Family. I, too, like Weather Underground. In fact, my weather station is part of their system. 😊
WeatherUnderground was the first digital/online weather forecast system that in my opinion, it's one of the best!
Still hoping for mild weather 😊
That's what we have here in Southern California

Did the Air Force shoot down Santa 🎅???
Not sure they can catch him...
AO is looking verrrry wobbly......if it crashes as shown, all we need is the drop to fall over North America for some really cold weather.

Do Americans know what Boxing Day is? I thought that was a British and dominion thing.
