  • In this Drum Lesson I will show you the Quintuplet Shuffle. It is similar to the normal triplet based shuffle groove, but based on a quintuplet, which gives it a wonky feel.

Really like this lesson. Shuffle grooves are something I definitely need to practice and work into my playing. There are a lot of different variations here. A lot of material to practice Thanks for showing these to us.

Microtonal Lo-fi hip-hop has this type of groove, I just didn't know what it was. Thanks Michi

This is exactly what I needed - all the confusion evaporates away when you add those ghost notes!
    *Two questions:*
*1)* Do you have a way of counting this with syllables? If you count 16ths as "1 e & a", how would you count quintuplets?
*2)* Could you please do a video that uses the same exact approach but with 4+3 instead of 3+2?
    *Thanks!*

For question 1, you may use konnakol, that usually goes "ta-di-gue-na-ton" for quintuplets, or "u-ni-ver-si-ty"

I can pretty much get the quintuplet shuffle just by counting 1231212312, but I don’t really want to count in order to get it right. How do you “feel” the quintuplet shuffle?

Its also in gulf arabic music i think

Dude, that's not a quintuplet shuffle. Not even a little. You can cram 3's in there.

"You don't have an equal distance from note to note when playing the shuffle"...surely must be an erroneous statement.
