    What is constraint of your "simplified method", focus on double instance of the foreground. This method does not guarantee the infinity is sharp.

  • @aaronsuek
    @aaronsuek 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Respectfully, I think the 'double the distance for focus point' approach starting at 4:55 is misleading as it suggests that the hyperfocal distance is dependent on where your foreground subject resides. The approach should really be the opposite - find out how far away your hyperfocal distance is for your lens/camera/settings combination, then change your position to get your foreground subject at least half that distance away. For example, if I were to take a 400mm lens on a full frame camera at f/4 for shooting a subject at 100m away with everything in the background in focus, I can't just focus at 200m as there's not enough depth of field to catch the foreground subject. The hyperfocal distance for that combination is actually almost 1400m, which means that I would have to focus to at least 1400m to get everything up to infinity in focus, and the distance to the closest 'acceptably in focus' object would be at ~700m. Focusing on anything closer would result in the at least some portion of the background not being in focus, and you'd need to change your aperture, focal length, or do focus stacking to achieve what's needed.

      I did a bit more research and I agree with you. Sorry for the mistake.

      @@sauravus No worries at all. The application of HFD is widely misunderstood. By the way, your presentation style is great :-)

    HyperFocal Distance= Lens Focal Length/ Aperture X COC, COC=0.03 for FX and 0.02 for DX Lens HD= (F^2)/(0,03 x f) + F for F=50 mm f=11 FX lens HD=(50^2)/(0.03 x11) +50= 7625.75 mm in Meter=7.6 for FD lense use COC=0.02 Ref. Wekipedia , en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperfocal_distance

    Great video! Thanks. Did I miss something with the "double the distance" method? How do we factor in Aperture value? As you said, the higher the f/stop the shorter the hyperfocal distance so do we need to correct the 2x the distance rule to factor in the f/stop? Thanks!
