Peaking at the right time is the name of the game. I was a 100, 200, 400 sprinter, boxer and now a powerlifter that still sprints. The same thought process is applicable. Train in that 75-90% range until its time for the "test"

sprinting and squating is not the same. Holly shit it's totally different!
We have to frequently run as fast as possible! Especially in the earlier stages.

Squat can only power the muscles involved only to that part of arc of rotation of the forward leg . It also can be useful to produce an increased weight force thru the isometric way snce the legs are stopped and the feet can so accumulate all the effort to lift up the weight. After this there is no other advantage a part some issues about the fact that is a bipodalic exercise. If performed with monopodalic way it would affect the balance. But the relevant thing is that the other leg would be pratically isolated and so no it would not train however in way to transfer the increased weight force. It is not because we see olimpian sprinters doing squat and such other exercises that means automatically thise exercise can grant a top speed. But the same thing worth for all the drills as skip and so on. This represent the old division between free exercise that are only targetted for a coordination and the weight training targeted to general increase of power. Same thing with the boxe about the top speed of the fist, where some trainers think is the best to train with only the bag while other trainers think is the best to use pectoral machine. Classic weight training has no emulation of the specific motion recalled in a sport. And however do not really offer way to train with real maximal : because the reps are set by the position assumed by the user. And this is clear infact Any athlete has different maximal for different machines that train same muscle.
