@@rex8958 I saw Pantera play in Sacramento CA just a night or two after Phil died and was revived on stage (for context of place and time). Anyway, it amazed me how your playing covered not just the rhythm but melody too for one guitar player. Ever since that night I payed real close attention to what bassists do in a rock/metal context. It’s often tough because there’s usually a ton of guitars that overlap the bass these days. However, even a note or two difference to what the guitarist is doing can make or break a song. I now take that extra seriously when I record my solo metal projects (Uncle Michael Metal…with input from my young nephews). You taught me that and I will forever be appreciative.

Thank you so much for posting this Gibson. Rex Brown is *ONE OF THE GREATEST* heavy metal musicians of all time. For those of you who saw Pantera live you know what I'm talking about. For those of you unfortunately did not see Pantera live, seeing Pantera live is a true lesson in how devastating the rhythm section of Pantera was. Rex's playing is unlike any other and has this unique combo of riffing, grooving with the drums, and completely independent bass lines that make perfect sense with the song. Thank God we have concerts recorded on video. The black and gold combo works every time. Thank you for the great music Rex!

Thunderbirds are the coolest looking basses. If I were a bass player I’d have to have a Thunder Thunder Thunderbird ! I didn’t realize Rex played a Thunderbird maybe it was a studio Bird ? Rex is the coolest and one of my favorite bassist along with Duff, I guess I like that mid range honking bass tone sound that can cut through the mix and or carry the melody of a song. New bass players attention if you want to know how it’s done, how to sit in the mix, how to hold it down with swag, how to play under a wicked guitar solo in a single guitar band, listen to Vulgar and Far Beyond Driven and Rex will show you how it’s done. Seriously his bass work under Dime’s solos are just as interesting and intense as Dime’s solos.

If anyone's a fan of Rex or Pantera I highly recommend his book, "Official Truth 101 proof" such a good in depth read on of his life with pantera. He even goes into detail about the progression of his backline and stage setup to him purchasing a house with Vinnie living near by to their achievements with each record they put out. I've always associated Rex with Spector basses, but it's cool to see him get the recognition he deserves w/a signature bass. Rex is awesome though even back in the days of Pantera when they were at the height of their career you can see live videos of Rex walking around the stage with swagger and confidence knowing he and his band were on top of the world. I'm a drummer and I've always been drawn to drummer and bass player duos and Rex and Vinnie are two of the best to ever do it. Rex was and is awesome at keeping the beat and holding everything together but at the same time he would improvise and come up with some killer bass licks on the spot to spice it up.

If you are a savvy listener of Pantera, and I assume you are, Rex plays solos underneath Dime sometimes and it's as beautiful as it could be. Love Rex, love Phil, love Dime, love Vince. Simple as.
