    Ive got one of this model number made by craftsman. It had a bad pil leak when i got it used. I took the bottom pan off of it and cleaned the gasket and all the mating surfaces and sermed to have stopped the major leak. Now its started a small leak where the viewing window for the oil level is. A little clear solicone should resolve this, i hope. I go to start it and repair the second oil leak and the recoil starter just spins now. Going to try what someone in the comments section recommended and see if it might save this machine. If so ive got to track down the correct trigger. I pulled one off another craftsman unit i had in the boneyard, but barely works. I got this in a deal with a couple other trimmers, really cheap. Now im beginning to realize why. Too deep in to quit now, so wish me luck. I bought a troybilt 2 cycle trimmer about 10 years ago and it was a beast. No problems with it at all. This one really surprised me.

    Had mine since 2014. Never an issue and I use it every weekend during the lawn season (9 months out of the year)

    This is the second trimmer I got to deal with. One was a present from a friend and this is one I bought from Lowe's few years a ago. Both have been hard to start and are unpredictable. I agree with you that are pieces of bad quality. Lowe's does not carry them anymore.

    Forgot what I paid at Lowes for this same model. Prolly $100-$150 back in 2012. It has worked great less the line auto feed (which is owner, me, error in not knowledgeable of how to). 2024 it has a fuel tank or fuel line leak. I am attempting to repair since I cannot locate a new part/fuel tank for this model. I have used this Troy Bilt about 100 times without any trouble.
    Sorry you are not as lucky.

    Hardest part is finding a carb kit and getting part number 😢😢😢

    I bought this same trimmer back in 2012, It still runs like a champ. Maybe because it was an older model.

    I HAVE THE SAME ONE WITH THE SAME ISSUE .I BOUGHT MINE AT LOWES. ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO. I HAVE ONLY USED IT FOR AROUND 15 HOURS IN 3 YEARS. WENT TO START IT THE OTHER DAY. WOULD ONLY RUN AT IDLE. NO SPARK ABOVE IDEL. REPLACED THE IGNITION IT STARTED RIGHT UP. USED IT FOR 10 MINUTES. NEXT DAY WENT TO USE IT AND THE DAMN PULL STARTER WOULD NOT WORK. TOOK IT APART THE FAN STARTER PLATE JUST SPUN ON THE CRANK.GOT OUT THE MIG WELDER WELDED IT TO THE CRANK AND IT WORKS FOR NOW. WHAT A PIECE OF DESIGNED JUNK!

    Have this same unit for about 4 years and never had any trouble with it.

    The pull is an easy fix you need to take the start housing off and wrap around the springs one more time around the metal pin and then wrap it around the metal clip itself both of them and that's it put everything back and together and it's fix

    Reading the comments I’m guessing Troy built changed manufactures. I have one from around 2020 and it’s garbage. Same issues and doesn’t guy for crap

    Oh man that sucks. I’ve had mine for 3 years so far and use the hell of it. Starts right up every time. Honestly didn’t think it’ll last this long lol.

    I bought one of these in 2013. It was heavy and hard to start from time of purchase. I dealt with it for two years before trashing it and buying a 2 stroke Husqvarna that has been great for 7 years.

    I don't like mine either, I fell for the never have to worry about mixing oil/gas again. It never did idle right, carburetor is an issue.

      If you want a 4 stroke trimmer get a Honda. I have the same troy built it's almost 4 years old now. I had to replace the carb 2nd season because I didn't run the gas out before winterizing.
      However my father has a 25cc Honda 4 stroke and that thing rocks. It stronger then my troy built and you can use it any position upside down on its side it doesn't matter. Oh yeah and the Honda has one of the best pull string I have pulled and it starts on 1st or second pull ever time. The Honda may be more expensive, BUT you get what you pay for. When my troy built quits I'm buying a Honda forsure.

    1st Troy Bilt I ever bought and the last I will ever buy. Nothing but problems for 4 years and I am just tired of working on it because trimming an acre yard is hard enough without the extra crap.

    I paid 60 for mine. I used it for 3 years before it leaked. I took it to a bearing shop and got the $2 seal and replaced it. As for the fan the pull cord dogs are plastics its a $20 fix

    I belive these units are made by MTD. Mine is a Craftsman built in 2013 and it looks identical to the Troybilt. Im in the process of replacing the paws on the fly wheel as one broke.

    I've had mine since 2016. Took out a big blackberry patch with a branch adapter. After that I used it to make sure the house was all cleaned up for sale. Only used it once two or three times the last couple years but zero problems. Starts right up, no worries. Haven't had any leaks (which you put yours down upside down, of course it might leak). Only problem for me is restringing, I need to find the instructions because I don't think I'm doing it right and Troy Bolt doesn't have a helpful video of it.

    • @shortyorc121
      @shortyorc121 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah mine is about 4 years old now and I replaced the carb because I didn't winterize it the 1st season. Other then that zero problems. I do agree with you never sit it up right or on its side. Always store it flat and carry it flat. I have had no issues with oil leaks just got to be mindful to keep it flat.

      @@shortyorc121 ironically I used it a month ago and put flat on my garage floor and had a little oil leak spot. Oops.

      @@fmixthings oh no that sucks man. I'll have to keep an eye on mine then. If it leaks I'm going to go buy a Honda 4 stroke trimmer. I'm not dealing with replacing the pan not for my troy built.

    I hate loading more line into this this thing. Been doing it for years and its still a pain to do. It never just pokes out the other side of the head on the first try. I have to jimmy it through and fight with it every time. Any tips? Any universal head that will work with it? Should of just bought a quality unit with a straight shaft.

    A number of years ago I purchased the same unit, rarely used it because I also have an electric one. Yesterday for whatever reason I felt that I would like to use it. On the second pull the pawls failed, same thing. So frustrated with Troy-Built. Definitely not buying another one from them.

  • @joepdarrow
    @joepdarrow 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just a note: Troy doesn't actually build some of what they sell. MTD builds some of Troy, Craftsman and several other brands. I have a Troy and a Craftsman, identical units.

    I'm so regret to purchase this damn shit. I used only couple times in the 1st year. Then it didn't start. Now it's sitting in my garage almost 2 years.
