A few people have mentioned the trinket choices which is worth talking about. I show both strong and weak trinkets through the video. The point of recommending the strong ones is because bosses drop orange trinkets even at apprentice, so this helps new players know what to look for in drops. The other is that stronger trinkets are more diverse in stat allocation, so players can see what they bring (like focus ring) and understand that accuracy and crit are both desirable stats. I also speak of the stats on some of the trinkets specifically and why they are good. The term beginner is referring to new players as well, not teams you need to run at week 5. This is why I cover the starter team the game gives the player, in case they can't put together one of the others quickly. These teams work early game and late game and they are easy for new players to use and understand. I appreciate the well-stated disagreement, so please continue to do so if you feel the need to. Apparently, in Darkest Dungeon 2, we won't be able to have copies of the same hero in the team. I suppose they did this because quad leper was too strong.

I have been playing the game for a while but I’m very bad at team building games as a whole. That being said, between early and mid game, I go from doing ok to getting absolutely destroyed. This video helped me break that barrier today. Hopefully I can continue learning.
Great, GR and hellion is my favorite combo and it is good to see a guide with both of them. I'm a somewhat new player (I know my priorities in town, but items? not good with them) and certainly will try some of those groups. Good work man, thanks.
With dancing in mind, I have not yet made a full dance team. I am however a lot more comfortable with giving every character at least some form of dance move, so that they are not left bereft of options. Which is why the musketeer gets their sidearm, the crusader gets holy lance, the man at arms gets his shield bash and so on. On occasion I lose focus and half my team is scrambled, and yet they can keep fighting without major issues. On that note, Holy Lance is a fantastic skill. Forward movement, good damage and additional reach? Excellent stuff.
Again, I'm late to the party 😅 The help that I've received from this channel has made me understand this game. It's my favorite game atm & I would've never played a game like this. Shout-out to Sig Ed games for making an edition that I had to buy & this channel for helping me get started.
So many of your videos I find adding to a private playlist just in case I need to find them again later, lol. I know a little bit of team comp, enough to get 2 bosses in on Radiant (though I've stumbled a few times), and these videos really help out. So far I love my Plaguedoctor and brought her on so many early missions that she was rank 4 before I had a rank 3. Definitely need to get that flask from the Necromancer. Oh also! I've been dealing with losing quirks I like whenever my characters get new ones. Only after watching this video do I see that you can lock quirks in, lol.
I played DD1 for over 300 hours and now after beating DD2 multiple times with about 200 hours (including early access) I'm going back to DD1 and it feels like a very different game mechanically so this guide is quite helpful
And heres another tip. Always remeber to double check the map you selected after going back between embark and the hamlet. I took a full bleed team to face the necromancer in the ruins. The place filled with skeleton. Thank got he can bleed. Also used my campfire on a curio by accident. So no camp boss fight. I survived. But barely.
Shuffle: Here's a video about beginner's teams. Also Shuffle: Use these Ancestral and DLC trinkets! :D Jokes aside nice video! I'm coming back to DD once again and I'll might even beat the game this time.
You know you've spent too much time in Darkest Dungeon when you've named, most, if not all of your recruits. When you're newer you pick a favorite and lose that named recruit one too many times until you eventually get good enough to start naming them again.
I find highwayman in 4 to be better, Vestal being in 2 to begin with isn't usually a big deal. I find myself opening with a stun from Vestal anyway, also gives highwayman more options to either double tap the backliner he hit with duelist advance or open vein/wicked slice an enemy up front.
Sometimes I like to run jester without any of his movement skills. The two other attacks that keep him where he is, plus obviously the buff and stress remover. It lets you still do jester things, without worrying about movement and all that or building up to finale. USUALLY i run jester exactly as you have here, but sometimes I like a static jester, too. Depends on the party comp. I used to have such a hard time with jester but have recently come around to really groking his setup.
Should I stick to one team right from the beginning and fill my barracks around it? Or should I develop multiple teams for different dungeons, bosses, etc?
For the arb I actually like the one that attacks a random target it’s only a ten percent less damage in exhaghe for being able to use it in front and being able to hit the front when the back line is dead and no one else needs healing
I just got Darkest Dungeon a few weeks ago, and I've had the most success with Hellion, Highwayman, Occultist, and Vestal, swapping out Vestal or Occultist for Antiquarian if I need some extra money. Bleed and enemy party shuffle. Also have used Bounty Hunter, Occultist, Arbalest, and Vestal for Ruins and Cove.
As someone who comes from DD2. The amount of stuns in DD1 is sick. I wish we had guaranteed stuns in DD2 outside the bounty hunter. Hopefully they make the vestal a stunner if she's a new class on dd2.
hmm, what I really don't like about all of these beginner teams is that you show them at max level and with end-game items, that skews what a normal beginner will see and has access to, so the teams are never really comparable to what one has access to. But they are a starting point I guess. Edit: the last team is pretty accessible
The starter Crusader has Kleptomaniac and if you don’t get rid of that trait if he survives a long time, he will take items over time for himself and prevent you from using them. It’s almost always better too swap him for another hero.
@@ddkong021223 maybe because he and dismas are the only ones that came with us , maybe because they saved us from an ambush , OR MAYBE BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ICONIC DUO OF THIS GAME
For the second team, I prefer the Four Horseman, at least for the Cove. Having the ability to cure bleed almost trivialises Uca crabs. Abomination and Hellion have their own heals that can supplement Battlefield Medicine, so healing isn't too much of an issue. Edit: I guess since this is beginner teams, you won't be encountering Uca crabs, but I still prefer that team.
4th team is almost screaming "Take me to the Warrens!". I wonder if there is a way to replace the Flagg if I'm playing vanilla? Amazing guide btw, love it!
Just started this game a couple days ago and I fell in love with Flagellant-1, Occultist-2, Jester-3 and Plage doc-4 can’t really remember the name of the skills tho sorry. Edit: screw it I’ll try Flagellant had both his heals the bleed on hit and remove bleed from team mate Occultist had stab, heal, mark and pull Jester had stab, both bleeds and stress heal Plage doc had grenade, heal, back line stun and front line blight.
thanks for your vids and tips. I decided to name my characters starting out just "redshirts" like from star trek because they dont survive or i end up getting rid of them from bad traits...lol...I hope DD 2 will come to console soon as im on xbox.
You can use these hero combinations from the start of the game. The trinket choices are to show what stats are good and what to look for as you progress
@@ShuffleFM I keep wanting to but I always get sidetracked or move over to another game and restart when I come back after a few months. Its the struggle with big time sink games. I'm excited for DD2 though it looks at least on the surface to be a bit less daunting to progress into.
Hello, for the grave robber and other, i don't have the dlc crimson court , what can I replace the item with? and very good video, i'm new in the game!
What do you think about Laudanum? I never use it cause L fill up one slot of Inventory, cost many coins, rarely needed ( Horror from special attacks not so frequent in my gameplay ). Sorry bad english.
You don't really need it, just use someone who can stress heal like Jester. Maybe bring one in places where you can find those objects that can interact with it like shrines.
i gotta say, ur previous video helped so fricking much ... + this one aswell is doing wonders .... even tho im playing in the pussiest difficulty, i was trying to play medium and harder lvls without even knowing that i shoud've upgrade the skills + the weapons n armours ..... so fucking dumb on my part jeez christ
lmao I got super lucky apparently. I'm just getting started and Blasphemous Vial was the one I recently got from a boss. Can't remember if it was Hag or Siren.
I want to ask serious question. About riposte. I'm not totally sure but looks like highwayman doesn't get morale damage from tempting goblet IF HE KILLS skeleton with riposte. Please tell me if it's totally true because it's like awesome.
It doesn't matter too much. Locking in quirks is nice, but they're so random that it's more something you do if the game is nice and gives them to you.
so i know this came out around a year ago, but would u mind making a QoL mod review for this game? trying to install some stuff but theres a lot of unique classes, bosses, etc. to sift thru. i just want some basic vanilla-friendly stuff
Any tips on making gold? I am at week 26 now, dealt with all four first bosses and the miller as well with only 2 hero loses. But no matter how I try I cant seem to stay beyond the 20k gold threshold for long. I am sorta cautious so usually do not hesitate in provisions. Should I be risky or is gold something that will naturally grow as the game advances?
Good way to make gold is to bring all the torches you can. This allows you to douse the touch fully at the end of a fight (usually a big 4 enemy fight) when their is only on enemy on low health. By doing this you can get the low torch loot bonus for the fight. Play the whole fight in high torch, roam around with high torch and only douse after say a room battle (so you don't fully run out of torches). Be sure to leave most curios until after you have low torch to maximise loot. E.G. high torch a backpack may have only 250 gold and a bandage. Low torch it may have 600 gold, a bandage and some food.
Manage stress as much as possible during mission, without buildings, get the bank and the granary if you have district unlocked, long mission have the best gold/week ratio, be patient and don't rush to veteran or champion to get more gold without enought blacksmith/guild level. Scouting may be good as secret room can really bring in the cash. Risk is good to make things faster but you don't really need it, as a side note jesters carried me quite a lot in my first playthrought to get stress-free mission, and antiquarian can be used to get more gold with or without suicide torchless squad. Also low torch can be good but be mindfull with roaming while in pitch black if your team can't handle the shambler.
I’ve been playing this for years, but every time I watch one of your vids or Baertaffy I feel like I learn a little more. I’ve since stopped making dance teams with Grave Robber, and I’m now thinking on the side of Pick to the Face. Just as little bit of my growth :)
The fact that they created a whole d4mn turned based rpg without any magical class FOCKING SUCKS! And I know, it's a low fantasy/Eldrich/Lovecraftian type of setting. But if you have healers, occultism, and witch doctors, you should also be able to have wizzards, mages and warlocks(WoW style) in this game. Y'all might not agree with me, but to people who play magical classes in RPGs, this game dropped the ball *H A R D* !!!
I appreciate some of the info. Where I'm struggling is with this being a beginner team...how do you define beginner team? I just started and I don't have access to a lot of the things you are referring to. I feel like I probably misunderstood who this is intended for. I think I must be in a level below beginner.
Beginner team refers to ease of use. All the teams I listed are pretty straightforward but still effective. The trinkets are meant to show what to look for in terms of stats.
A little bit, but nothing game breaking. Instead of having to manage a small roster and struggle with capacity upgrades, you'll need more gold to keep everyone up to date. It doesn't break the game or anything, it just makes it a bit different.
Question, if it's still relevant How is quad leper valid? Like I understand Quad Occultist or Antiquarian I guess, blight is powerful when spammed, same as bleed But Leper is.. weird case Leper's in 4th and 3rd row can do nothing other than healing themselves or occassionally casting revenge, 3rd row can cast withstand but that's about it I get Crusader being Good in running Quad, cuz' of the Holy Lance and being able to heal others, same with Hellion, she has a Forward attack and of course the Iron Swan, and the Adrenaline is a nice touch, but Quad Leper just seems weird. 2/4 of your party is basically useless
I bought this game recently, didn't know how difficult it was. I rage quit within the first 10 hours and now binging youtube guides. so painfully hard :(

I’m gonna say this once: Vestal is the Bestal
You know you've spent too much time in Darkest Dungeon when you've named, most, if not all of your recruits. When you're newer you pick a favorite and lose that named recruit one too many times until you eventually get good enough to start naming them again.
i love how the music u chose is like the polar opposite to the vibe of darkest dungeon
Way back before I started using game music :P
Best DD tutors on TH-cam.
I like how one of your jesters is named after a legendary Italian guitar player.
Glad you recognized it. The man is incredible.
Omg I never realized how useful stun is , it's saved me a couple times since I watched this video, man stun teams r op against inchoate fleah
Definitely make multiple teams if you can
I just beat the game & still learning new stuff. Thank u for these infomations, much appreciated
Also have used Bounty Hunter, Occultist, Arbalest, and Vestal for Ruins and Cove.
amazing video! now i *need* a top 5 veteran teams >:)
I wonder how strong a ton of plague docs and a tank would do , but I'm to afraid to NOT run a vistle healer in my party every single run xD
One of the best things about torchless Hellion is Hell's Hairpin. This trinket is downright broken, tbh.
The starter Crusader has Kleptomaniac and if you don’t get rid of that trait if he survives a long time, he will take items over time for himself and prevent you from using them. It’s almost always better too swap him for another hero.
but somehow people grow some feelings on him, and use him till the end.
There is some achievement if you save them till the end, but I don't care about achievements
@@ddkong021223 maybe because he and dismas are the only ones that came with us , maybe because they saved us from an ambush , OR MAYBE BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ICONIC DUO OF THIS GAME
@@JI_Qm No need to be loud, i use them to kill the heart too.
@@ddkong021223 mb , i guess loud = funny only works when you have +1mil subs from random kids on yt
Pharasma? You are a man of culture, I see.
19:45 Virago has prot for some reason.
I bet it cause her skin is so encrusted with fungus.
I've already got 30 hours since the steam sales and I've experienced tremendous loss in just a few days :'(
4 Occultist to the Cove and everyone has sacrifical stab, wyrd reconstruction, daemons pull and abysall artillety.
For some reason it just works.
1:00 I see you have a Doctor House and a Doctor DOOM. A tip of the hat, my good sir
Me as a beginner seeing that some of these teams don't have a dedicated healer: * nervous sweating *
Good video so far. I've just started this game, and dont feel balance between dmg/utilities. Thank you for the guide
Thank you, first time here and just wanna comment to boost the algorithm
I like how Zealous Accusation isn’t even unlocked lmao
4th team is almost screaming "Take me to the Warrens!". I wonder if there is a way to replace the Flagg if I'm playing vanilla? Amazing guide btw, love it!
Hellion :)
Just started this game a couple days ago and I fell in love with Flagellant-1, Occultist-2, Jester-3 and Plage doc-4 can’t really remember the name of the skills tho sorry.
Edit: screw it I’ll try
Flagellant had both his heals the bleed on hit and remove bleed from team mate
Occultist had stab, heal, mark and pull
Jester had stab, both bleeds and stress heal
Plage doc had grenade, heal, back line stun and front line blight.
Thank you a lot for this guide!!!
I usually use crusader, man at arms, bounty hunter and vestal and it works good for me
Darkest Dungeon is the only game that made me do 10 emotions in 5 seconds, im not even at the darkest dungeon yet
thanks for your vids and tips. I decided to name my characters starting out just "redshirts" like from star trek because they dont survive or i end up getting rid of them from bad traits...lol...I hope DD 2 will come to console soon as im on xbox.
A beginner team video that show all levelled party members. But what do you do when you START and are not levelled and don't have any trinkets?
You can use these hero combinations from the start of the game. The trinket choices are to show what stats are good and what to look for as you progress
I’m having trouble with front line occultist being too squishy, any tips?
Doesn't last team's vestal only have half the moves chosen in the position shown?
I've never actually gotten a team to level 6 despite having 40 hours in DD, I keep restarting instead of pushing for the progression
You're allowed to enjoy the game however you want :)
@@ShuffleFM I keep wanting to but I always get sidetracked or move over to another game and restart when I come back after a few months. Its the struggle with big time sink games. I'm excited for DD2 though it looks at least on the surface to be a bit less daunting to progress into.
I always restart because either Dismas or reynauld die on me I’m trying to go for achievement
whats the soundtrack name thats playing for your video?
Hello, for the grave robber and other, i don't have the dlc crimson court , what can I replace the item with? and very good video, i'm new in the game!
How do you see the team names like 'red hook' ? I don't see names pop up when shuffling characters around like you see at time 1:00 mins.
Nevermind I got it. It is only some teams that have unique names
What about Quad Leper?
That anti and highway man synergy is absolutely disgusting
These are still viable without those trinkets right? I’m like very early game (week 9)
lmao I got super lucky apparently.
It's true! A riposte kill stops all negative effects that aren't direct damage and crit hit stress.
Great video thank you. Thw only thing that its a little enoying is the loud music in background.
I noticed you have quite a few upgraded positive quirks, should I try to boost resolve and farm positive upgrades quirks on my best characters?
It doesn't matter too much. Locking in quirks is nice, but they're so random that it's more something you do if the game is nice and gives them to you.
@ShuffleFM, what is the music playing at 17:05????
Not sure tbh. I think this was a royalty free jazz set I had
so i know this came out around a year ago, but would u mind making a QoL mod review for this game? trying to install some stuff but theres a lot of unique classes, bosses, etc. to sift thru. i just want some basic vanilla-friendly stuff
Here you are :) th-cam.com/video/eI5JBK8ohxY/w-d-xo.html
@@ShuffleFM ah i see! thank you good sir
If you want to get gold easily, Antiquarian is the way to go. Shuffle has a really good guide explaining what she does to the full extent.
I see so the most used tips are torch management and using antiquarian. Will try it out.
@@PriyadarsheePDash yep torch management can easily net you about 25k of gold and gems per week + the bonus from the level completion.
Bro really named his antiquarian "E-Girl"
Viewer requested name I promise :P
Wait, there are teams other than 3 occultists and 1 jester?
Good, bad and ugly goes hard tbh
I appreciate some of the info. Where I'm struggling is with this being a beginner team...how do you define beginner team? I just started and I don't have access to a lot of the things you are referring to. I feel like I probably misunderstood who this is intended for. I think I must be in a level below beginner.
Beginner team refers to ease of use. All the teams I listed are pretty straightforward but still effective. The trinkets are meant to show what to look for in terms of stats.
would you consider that having a mod to increase roster capacity would make the game too different from the vanilla expierence?
A little bit, but nothing game breaking. Instead of having to manage a small roster and struggle with capacity upgrades, you'll need more gold to keep everyone up to date. It doesn't break the game or anything, it just makes it a bit different.
Question, if it's still relevant
How is quad leper valid?
Like I understand Quad Occultist or Antiquarian I guess, blight is powerful when spammed, same as bleed
But Leper is.. weird case
Leper's in 4th and 3rd row can do nothing other than healing themselves or occassionally casting revenge, 3rd row can cast withstand but that's about it
I get Crusader being Good in running Quad, cuz' of the Holy Lance and being able to heal others, same with Hellion, she has a Forward attack and of course the Iron Swan, and the Adrenaline is a nice touch, but Quad Leper just seems weird. 2/4 of your party is basically useless
Quad leper is a meme lol
@@ShuffleFM figures
What is a good replacement for bounty hunter in third party? Didnt have luck to find him in a couch.
Houndmaster with Blackjack :)
@@ShuffleFM thank you ❤️
I bought this game recently, didn't know how difficult it was. I rage quit within the first 10 hours and now binging youtube guides. so painfully hard :(
You'll get there! :)
