From gen 5 forwards there was a huge shift in gender difference design. Most of the gender differences gen 4 added were very subtle things, but in future generations, they instead chose to keep the pokemon with gender differences very limited, but make them very aparent, eventually even having stat differences and stuff, wich I do appreciate more, feels more significant
With Meowstic and a few others being the only Pokemon nowadays with a gender difference.
@@pussmagic1541 gen 5 had unfezant and jellycent, gen 6 had meowstic, gen 8 had indeedee and basculegion and gen 8 has oinkologne (at least for now)
so yeah, a very small number of them, but they are very obvious differences. I rather have very few that are like that than having to pay attention to slight differences in horn lengths, to be fair
@@Deoix9877 Do you mean Gen 9? That's fair enough.
@@Deoix9877
Gen 6 has Pyroar too.
You're forgetting gen 4, who had the Hippowdon line. From gens 4 to now they've always had a Pokémon with the gimmick of having a gender difference
For some Pokémon I'm like "wow, how'd I never notice that?"
For other Pokémon I'm like "wow, how'd ANYONE notice that?"
I never noticed the blue shinx paws.
The Weavile ears! I never noticed, but when you see them side by side, it's such a big difference!
@@SocialistStrike same

i like how everybody believed the female oinkologne to be the darker one and instead turned out the be the other way around
yess i guessed the darker one was male
Emo chonk
Toby Fox made the male one Mettaton💀
Me too
I mean.. the darker one does look way more female, idk why they chose that one to be male, aside from to subvert expectations..
Only thing that looks feminine about the female one is the eyes.
It's a weird case anyway, they do that a lot when the base forms don't look male or female (but usually more presumably male) and then all of a sudden the evolutions look super girly.
It was like that with Poplio and their evolutions and a few other Pokemon I'm too tired to think of right now lol.
I love hearing the old Pikachu cry and not “Pikachu!” :3
I noticed from the trailer, and it's neat to have consistency like that again, but I wonder what motivated them to do that. Could the rumors be true? Is the anime really ending?
Same goes to Eevee
Me too.
I loved hearing them shout their names. It just gave me a sense of happiness
So female Pikachu is alohan Pikachu now?????
Oinkolgne’s gender difference has WAY more to it than just a darker body on the male.
For real lol. It's like a completely different pokemon
Yeah that bothered me. There’s also the joke about his tail resembling a nipple, and I can’t unsee it. I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to resemble the part of a perfume bottle you squeeze to have the perfume come out, but it unfortunately resembles a nipple.
I love Oinkologne though, it’s so cute and the perfect evolution for Lechonk! The gender difference is great too, I don’t have a favorite over the two.
One of the coolest gender differences unlike the rest that are barely noticeable.
At first I actually thought they were two different Pokémon
@@lunanote-cassettemeower how tf does it resemble a nipple?? what nipple had three long bits??
I noticed there are quite a few Pokemon, like Gulpin or Numel, whose differences were easier to see when the game was pixilated compared to now. It's much harder to tell in 3D
No, these two were easy to tell in both 2d and 3d. The nightmare ones were Croagunk and the Finneon line. These two have the smallest gender differences, it’s near impossible to see now.
I’m with you with finneon, but personally I was able to tell which croagunk was which, though that was in PLA, so idk
And then there’s Torchic
Time to exploit every single detail in the new Pokémon game
Oh yeah they do
It's called business 🤓

you can get normal Wooper if you trade the paldean one in the water gym city
thank you so much for this comment i am making that a major goal of mine. I love woopy
That's why it said "Not in Pokedex."
They didn't want to force people to find the one guy in the game with a normal Wooper so you can get a Quagsire.
the paldean morlord looks funny tho
Paldean is better
They do force other painful things like always need both of the games or trading to complete the dex
the very first thing "male has a darker body" massive appearance difference between the 2 genders, as if they were completely different pokemon, the same thing goes for pyroar too, that's also actually the real life gender difference for lions
Male has a black body instead of the female's brown head, male has a more saturated pink for the hooves snout end of tail and eyelid, male has the eyelashes down and female has them up, male has a longer left ear female has a longer right ear male has a paintbrush like end of tail while female has a fork shape kinda
@@kitosanimations exactly, that's more than just "male has a darker body"
@@sakura368 normal girl and emo boy
@@kitosanimations thank you, that annoyed me with "male has darker body" when there are more differences than that.
@@wolfygaming7222 I feel you. It was almost like an alt form.
for no reason i was playing sword and shield and i encountered a hippopatas and it was female and i thought it was a shiny but it wasn’t 💀
Same
@@Amelia4111
You’ve told two other people on this video to stop typing in all caps, and yet here you are doing the same yourself.
Honestly female version > shiny imo
This is the same story of every gen 4 player thinking they found a shiny but realized it was just the female good to know it still happens
@@Amelia4111 hippapotos, there, happy??
I wish the differences between them made sense. Like a lot of them feel much more like “it has to look feminine” like making tusks or defensive parts of the body and rounding/removing/shortening seems strange. It would make more sense if the differences applied to how they live in the wild. Cause if that’s the case female Pokémon would have more defense if they are the one caring for young. A lot of the differences make no sense and don’t even put the two apart much. It’s a strange pet peeve for me but as a Marcuse lover it rlly is noticeable.
You put what was bothering me into words.
Yeah tbh because like, some of these are color scheme alterations and it really ruins the flow of what the original had going for it. It's annoying.
That females simply lack a feature happens all the time in all sorts of animals, be it deer, platypuses or beetles.
What doesn't make a lot of sense is heart shaped features or stuff on the female pokemon's chest. But pokemon don't seem to make a lot of sense evolutionarily anyways.
Well yes but actually no?
Genetic stuff and what is considered a "better mate" is complicated. Shorter tusks might be better for caring for a child, or be easier to bone. In the case for a lot of non mammalians, especially bugs, we see much more traits that we see in IRL insects. Larger abdomens, and special markings, Female fish are larger and extravagant, birds are virtually indistinguishable.
It's complicated and your wariness is prolly justified, but also could be explained by other stuff.
*Coughs in Oinkologne*
i love the female pikachu heart tail, i think it's cute, but the way it transfers to raichu and its tail just... no longer has a point... it just makes me sad
Yeah they shouldn't have given Raichu the difference.
What's the point of removing the point?
They should’ve done something cooler with Raichu, maybe give it a little heart design near the tip or little poofs on the corners. Something neat.
They sjould have made the curly things on the sides of the ears larger
You could say that Raichu's tail is Pointless AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT AHT
I do really like how it’s somewhat realistic to how animals are. Some are subtle AF (I mean like with Numel, it’s kinda hard to tell a male and female camel apart without looking at the two side by side or at the reproductive organs), and others are pretty obvious Sawsibuck and Pyroar are pretty good examples of how they made it like how deer and lions are irl.
Pokémon really is just a fantasy ecosystem and it’s admittedly pretty neat. There’s even implications of predators and prey species ie Pelipper being implied to be the natural predator of luvdisc (at least according to Gen 7’s dex)
Gender differences, regional forms and shinies are some of the best additions to Pokémon. They add a bit of realism to the world and make it more interesting.
Reproductive organs do not equal gender 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
Prior to this, for me, Wobuffet had the most obvious gender difference.
Lipstick. Just lipstick.
@@anonymousx1101 it’s still pretty obvious. More obvious than others I’ve seen.
@@JZJ7777 It's a simple change but it makes a lot of sense.
@@TornaitSuperBird I agree
Question. How did female Wobbufett's naturally and physically develop lipstick.
So happy to see Pyroar back

Here’s a funny story: I saw a female hippopotas when I was playing my X version, and I thought it was a shiny. I sure was stupid back then~
I did the same exact thing 😂
I like how most of these are barely noticable untill you point them out, and only like 3 or 4 are drasticly different.
Edit: How is this getting so many likes I'm literaly pointing out the obvious
Just like real life.
same like in torchic
That's the case for a lot of species in real life, which I appreciate
@@Dremag_Gaming You know I saw A video showing that The gender differance between Torchic is literally 1 pixel, that's Halarious.
yea
Paldean Wooper, Clodsire, and Farigiraf should theoretically have differences too. Since Wooper, Quagsire, and Girafarig do
Thats what I thought
The same can be said about Pokémon such as Sneaseler and Honchkrow
Eevee has a gender difference, but it's evos don't.
1:04 realizing that female raichu is pointless...
I aporeciate this small differences they added. They dont significantly change much but are always a fun thing to know
The thing about shinx's paws is news to me. I knew about the fur length but it's crazy that I'm still learning new stuff about a pokemon I've spent probably hundreds of hours around over the course of the past 10ish years (diamond was my first game and I usually end up with a luxury on my team on replays)
I love that Pokémon sexual dimorphism is getting to be much more prevalent, and obvious in the newer gens. It's so cool.
1:42 it must be the receding hairline
Lmao! XD Must be all that testosterone.
This shows how much attention to detail went to gen 4 Pokémon. Unfortunately they stopped doing this in the newer gens.
i love these differences, it makes each pokemon feel more unique
I noticed in a lot of these the females tend to have more colorful/definitive features, or has a bigger version of the male’s feature, which wouldn’t make sense because in the wild males tend to be the ones with more distinct features to attract females. However, a lot of the males have features that would make sense with this logic, so that’s good. Either way, at the end of the day it’s a fun fantasy game and all the designs are cool.
Females are more important than males.
This raises huge and really cool questions for biology nerds. Are the females in some pokemon species the ones doing the courting? That would explain why they're the ones with more flashy colors or bigger features, contrary to real life. It can't be all pokemon because with some the opposite is true and the males have the flashy colors and bigger features. Are the mating criteria for some pokemon specias the same as for most real life birds? They're the ones who show off their pretty colors. For many other animals it's not the looks that determine a good mate, many animals have fights to see who's the strongest. How would flshy colors influence that?
I'll stop now
Some females have more bigger features than males for various reasons like establishing thier role or being strong to defend thier young
Pokémon isn’t realistic, you know. It’s fiction.
@@JZJ7777 yeah but it’s fun to check this kinda stuff out
0:03 It's much more than a darker body, literally everything is different!
Wow they're nice. Hopefully the shinies are next.
Damn. In which area were you when you recorded that bit? That music reminds me so much of Phantasy Star Online OST (Never played, but the musics are awesome)
It's actually a battle song from the game's final boss, I won't say more cuz spoilers
Spoilersss, i don't recommend to search it if you have'nt finished the game
Too late, I did some research. Since I am not gonna be able to afford the game. So I spoiled myself.
Gotta say, that felt tragic.
as a kid, in pokemon pearl i used to catch a male and female of each species and then i'd compare them side by side in a pc box to learn their differences
Wow pumping these out quick!
Funny enough when I first saw girl hipowdon I caught it cause I thought it was a shiny since the change is so drastic lol!
I love that some of the ones that have entirely different designs for male vs female are just like. "Different ears, larger white spot" lmfao
Or “sliiiiiiiiiiiiightly tinier tusk”
Wow thanks for this, i've been playing for couple of days and didn't even realized it😂
Ngl it feels like the males always got the cooler looking design. Even when it was more subtle
There was only one Pokemon shown that actually appears in Scarlet and Violet present...was that it? Where are the rest? Game freak did one gender difference for only one of the new Pokemon?
Most pokemon with gender differences are eaither from gen 4 or before gen 4 since that was when they were added. You still see approximately one pokemon per game, but there's nothing like starly having more/less white anymore.
Boy, you would have hated Gen 7's roster then.
Loved hearing all the cries :)
I really appreciate the dimorphism when it looks like it could naturally evolve that way. But some of the differences feel so human-centric. Like Pikachu's heart shaped tail, really feels tacked on like they needed something quick and blatantly feminine.
Scyther is standing on the ground. I am so very happy.
At a cost of Heracross flying at a static motion in battle.
Video: The male or female has this certain characteristic that is different from the opposite gender...
Me: Jamming to the music in the background lol
Okay some of these i dont have any clue how i’ll be able to see such minute details while playing the game running around and fighting
Yeah, some of the details are incredibly subtle and only really noticeable if you look super closely, but that can cause some serious eye strain. I always like checking my dex whenever I get more mons and I always like checking to see if there are any gender differences, but even when I've done that, some were harder to notice than others, then there's the ones that were drastically different. But the really subtle ones took me a lot longer to find where they were different exactly. Like a slightly shorter main or a slightly smaller spot on the head, torso or back. xD
“Female’s tail lacks a point” “Female has a smaller moustache” 😂😂
Pokémon is sexist. Period.
The Pokemon Acerus exclusives will likely be introduced in the expansion, along with the hexagonal shell crystal Legendary and maybe a Mirror Ruin legendary.
There's a past Suicune and a future Virizon (which seem to be somewhat fusions of their respective trios)
lechonk is like female eevee but heart pattern is on her ears
kinda weird that regular wooper isnt in the dex considering you can get one from trading a paldea wooper with an npc and they always give dex entries for alt forms of Pokemon
Meditite and medicham are some of my favorite pokemon but ive NEVER noticed the gender differences in meditite. I love it
When I first saw the male ver. of lechonks evo. I thought he was missing an eye but it turns out he’s ears blocking it
Ps I didn’t play this game yet, FedEx is taking so long to deliver my copy of Pokémon scarlet and violet
Im getting mine from Japan so I ain’t getting it till the 25th 😭6 more days
Male lechonk is just emo. lol He's using his ear like an emo hair sweep. xD But I can see why you might have thought the eye was missing at first glance. It's like people who thought the female Hippopotas was a shiny, but realised it was just a gendered colour variant. lol
some of these i never would have figured out
Yes! Hisuian pokemon are in the game! I can use kleavor in the game!
I'm upset they don't have ninetales 😭😭
Still trying to catch a Kleavor in SV. I don't wanna use the Kleavor I have in Legends, in case I go back to playing it some time. lol It just never spawns for me though.
3 A.M here, instead of going to bed Im watching this
0:21 opportunity missed to remove the stache...
This is 2 years ago but WHY WOULD YOU REMOVE IT? It's basically THE design!
Amazing video, I learned way more than I expected, and I need to know the song names!
Okay, but I love that both genders of Oinkologne rock that makeup.
Pretty sure it's "eye snot" or eye goop not makeup,
I miss subtle Pokemon Gender differences, they're fun LOL
Damn, thats interresting as f*ck, when I was kid, I never knew how to make the difference with most of the pokemons. But when you compare them like that and point out the difference, it make so much more sense.
5:16 first time I saw a female one I thought it was a shiny...💀
Damn same 💀
Me too lol
same
Dude I had the same feeling but with Hippopotas 😭😭😭
I never put 2 and 2 together with Magicarp and Gyarodos having different whiskers colors being their gender difference.
I always thought I was crazy when I came across one or the other with a different color and never spent the time double checking 😂
You are way ahead of me. I never even noticed there were different whisker colors.
The anime: well yes, but actually _eyelashes_
For the "male has less white and different ears" also has a different body too. The female body is more rounded out.
Huh, some of these I actually didn't know about. Cool.
I'm putting a female oinkliogne in my party. Too fabulous not too.
Also I collect female pokemon only unless I can't get a female one. Mainly because I wanna breed them to get good natures. I'm not doing competative but Pokemon games have been getting harder than how I normally play so I'm starting to ev train.
I think Indeedee and Basculegion are the only ones who not only have different designs but different stat spreads as well
I enjoyed that this is available. Really weird that the comments are full of people thinking us trans folks would be offended but not a single negative comment is from a trans person offended by this. It's only people making up weird hypotheticals about us. Again.

While not true of every single one I feel a lot of these were "let the guys keep the original design and make some random change for the girls". And, it kind-of shows in how the males just look better in most of these. Pretty unfair ngl.
I think some of the female versions look more interesting, like Pikachu, Eeveee, Floatzel, Girafarig, Lechonk.
