    When I first started learning re-keys..I blew out soooo many cylinders that I got good at re-loading them. There were some tips and trivia I missed that I picked up here..Thanks Jason!

    Some great info on the top pins in master keyed locks. Thanks!
    I have one of those followers with the ball bearing. Didn't learn with one but had just heard that it can make reloading them very quick because it's v-shaped in there which kind of makes everything just fall right in so I tried it. It's more useful for completely reloading than checking a normal plug and cylinder. Like I only use it if I have a completely empty cylinder that needs all new top and bottom pins and springs and everything, then it's handy. But I don't use it for the average rekey unless I'm just redoing the whole thing and know I'm just going to let it all fall out onto the bench and start over with the whole cylinder and plug.

    Those titans are a good one to learn. A lot of locksmiths leave pins out to match their 5 pin KW1 counterparts but titans are not that bad to do. It’s actually easier to do them the correct way than to work around the kw10/ 6pin issue… Thanks for sharing.

    Ahh fond memories of the first locks I ruined! PS titan is still around, we order them for a few customers. They call it signature series

    I usually don't find quite that many pins when a plug explodes on me, but it sure feels that way sometimes.
    Nice video.

    You can stick a piece of paper in the hollow followers so your pin won't fall all the way thru when loading top pins.

    When I dump a plug, I don't think I have had that many pins and springs fall out.
    I actually picked up up a few titans off eBay to play with. Thanx for the Video.

      Did you notice that the pins came from a different direction then they would if launching out of the cylinder

    Great video. Titans seem to be popular in some older neighborhoods in my area. Curious...have you or would you ever use a master pin follower? I have one that I like and it seems to work well.

    with all those extra pins in the lock that exploded, it was a good thing you checked it. it could have made it hard to insert even a bumpkey.

      Hard to find, require special blanks to rekey and more expensive than regular kwiksets. Most people didn't want to spend the money.

    I am trying to figure out how to tighten up a commercial style dead bolt it is key on outside only and has no external screws. It has a big gap from the door but I do not know how to tighten it. From what I understand I need to loosen a set screw that is under the plate in side the jamb part of the door and than put a key partially in and turn assembly to tighten. I can not figure out if the set screw uses a really small flat head or a small Allen wrench? Do you happen to know much about that style?

      If it’s not that, it’s a mortise lock and you unscrew the edge 8” plate to access the screws under it. Sounds like you may be missing a spacer though

      That link you sent with video you made doing the Lori style is exactly what I am dealing with except the thumb side has no screws it looks like the outside cylinder but has a half circle thumb thing sticking out where the key would go in. Now I see how to take it apart I need the long 5/64 Allen wrench.

    Why does the Schlage .237 or .235 top pins say to use an upside down bottom pin?

    • @selock
      @selock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      because in .003 kits the top pin length stops at .200, so you flip a longer bottom pin upside down (so the point is facing spring) and use it.
      but just don't do that, ever. In fact don't even use anything longer than like a .185 top

    • @lockhak33
      @lockhak33 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@selockThank you for answering my question and that makes sense for the .003 universal pins kits but do you have any idea why it says to flip a .235" bottom pin upsidedown on .005 pinning kits that include top pins that go up to .300"? Maybe I'm looking for reasoning in a place where there isn't any.

    Turn off auto-focus on your camera. The constant changing between your hand and the pin case is nauseating.
