    I thought I would want to upgrade my 700x ,but near 5 years and 55000 miles of all year riding and many tours later ,shes a keeper !

    Looks like a good time. I just bought my first bike. 1982 Honda GL500 Silver wing. Has all the luggage storage on it. Found another just like it that my dad might buy this week. Then it will be roadtrips and camping like this. Thanks for the vid. I liked how you kept things simple.

    Nice. Nice Nice. I especially loved watching you prepare have supper. You shot that wonderfully! People who never do that sort of thing can see all the minute details & what it is really like. Really good job! I learned two things from you today. Thank you very much. Greetings from Canada. and I just subscribed & intend to watch some more of your adventures. Ride safely!

    I really enjoy your videos. They have such a peaceful, mellow vibe. They always make me want to go camping. Back in January, I was watching some of your videos and they inspired me to take my son on a winter tent camping trip. It was cold and windy but we had a great time and made some wonderful memories. Thanks and keep up the good work.

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Winter camping can be a really great experience even when the weather is miserable. It is really cool you took your son and you guys were able to enjoy the experience regardless of the weather. Those are going to be great memories for both of you. Thank you for the amazing comment. I have been so busy with working on my house and job I haven't taken the time to get back out. This has inspired me to change that. ATB

    I did buy that folding stove like I said, but got it on eBay instead of Walmart. Had health problems that went on for most of last year and wasn't able to use it yet, but I have a trip planned with my son for this coming May, and will be taking it along. That little pin fell out as I was taking it from the bag and I watched as it took off somewhere across the oriental. Took two days on my knees feeling around under the recliner and running my hands in ever widening arcs along the carpet to find it. Will have to find some way to secure it better or use something longer that I can bend over at each end.
    Being an old classical fan I greatly enjoyed your music, and the 'crickets' in the end were the perfect touch.

    It is amazing to me that an NC700 can do so well in off road and over gravel. I know you were not going that fast. Honda marketed these bikes as "Adventure Touring" bikes but really they were street/highway touring bikes. They were not really designed to go off-road. That is what the made the Africa Twins for.

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree. I was really surprised it handled so well. I've been out a few times this fall on it off-road and it does really well. Next investment is some good off-road tires.

    • @dennisdeberry2582
      @dennisdeberry2582 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Pure pleasure Malone, and I loved your sound effects. Can't wait to get out there myself. I found Walmart sells those sheet metal stoves for $28.00. Soon as the weather warms I'll be ordering one to pick up at my local store. Those mid size motorcycles do come in handy. My 1700's not good off road so I'm kind of limited. Thanks for a really enjoyable video.

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nomad 1700 thanks for the great comment. It's nice to know Walmart sells those stoves. I've used that stove a lot and it's still in great shape. Another sub had a great idea of using 2-3 charcoal briquettes when using it. They burn for a long time. Ride safe and ATB

    • @SailorSam41
      @SailorSam41 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Briquettes? What a great idea, light weight, easy to pack, and zero smoke. I'm 75 and every summer since age 11 I've looked forward to camping. There's a kind of healing that comes when we're surrounded by trees, something peaceful that brings calmness and rest to the brain. Nowadays I need it even more.
      Well, couple years ago I was out riding with my sweetheart Michelle, and as we swooped under a rather long canopy of trees, for the first time I noticed that same change of energy.
      When I turned to tell Michelle what happened she became all excited, saying how she could feel it too. I mention this because most bikers don't seem to notice, until they're told to watch for it.
      And at the far side when you slip out under the full open sky, again if you're conscious of it you can feel a definite change, where the peacefulness is replaced with a kind of pressure that brings a weariness to the brain.
      Leaves me to wonder how I've not felt this riding in an automobile, which may have something to do with being encased in steel. Automobiles - bah, once they took the runningboards off, I lost interest.
      In a few months when the trees have foliated, as you are motoring along see if you notice a change as you pass under a row of trees. Once you know what to look for it becomes quite obvious. Thanks for responding to my comment, and "ride safe."

      +rlove2bike Thanks, the area I'm in is pretty good about it but there is always room for improvement. I carry bin bags in my car and will stop when I see stuff on the road. There are quite a few people around here that do the same.

    I thought your video was quite good. I had an FJR for many years, sold it, and now am looking really hard at the NC700x, I live in the Puget Sound of Western Washington and would like to road trip and camp around the Pacific Northwest. Be safe and keep posting!

      KYLE DYE I really enjoy the NC700. One thing to know about it is, it's not a really powerful bike. Sometimes I wish I had one more gear to get some more out of it on the highway. Other than that it's really great. Thanks for the comment, it's much appreciated. Ride safe!

    Just been watching videos of bmw, touratech type dudes who know what they're doing & it seems like you're guilty of making this look far too uncomplicated & straightforward. To enjoy any trip like this it's essential to take along at least 18,000 different items of electronics, camping & cookware gear, plus enough tools & specialized equipment to do a complete engine & gearbox overhaul on the side of the road, even if the campsite's only ten miles away.

    This is what I want to do. I'm looking more towards a KLR or DR-Z but same basic intent. Great vid man.
    Ever consider getting a piece of Tyvek to make a footprint for your tent? It'll make it last a lot longer. Prevent it from getting excessively worn by the ground cover and getting leaks.

    • @user-ty2ed8li4g
      @user-ty2ed8li4g 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +AZ Patriot Both of those choices are really good. I wanted one of each but ended up on the NC, price had a bit to do with it. I do have a footprint for the tent but honestly forgot to bring it. I packed up and had about twice as much gear and kept slimming down and that was one of the pieces I took out, lol. Thanks for the comment. Good luck on deciding which to get and ride safe!

    That's real MC camping...getting tougher to find land where you can just put up a tent for free for the night. I thought maybe at first you were going to treat us to an Evel Knieval type jump over that wash out.lol. Thanks..

      Lol, someone else wanted to see a jump across that wash out too but I'm not that daring yet. Thanks for the comment. It is getting harder to find good places to camp that aren't parking lots. Cheers

    Great vid - you went to a lot of trouble with camera angles/placement and fly bys. Well done. We appreciate it. Also - it pays not to just barrel along roads you aren't familiar with as you showed us when the road was cut. You and your bike could have been doing cartwheels down the road if you weren't so astute. Keep up the good work brother. Thumbs Up from me.

    That's...WAY off the beaten path. I would be a bit nervous being that much in the middle of nowhere. My trip will likely consist of MREs though, I'm not much of a cook. I think it'd be less volume and weight to pack.

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      SmokyOwl mres are a great alternative to packing in a bunch of food. Even mountain house meals work pretty good. I love cooking outdoors so I usually try and bring something for the first day or so on a long trip then go to ready to eat stuff. Thanks for the comment and ride safe

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks quite a bit closer than it is. The stove doesn't really let off that much heat past what's on top. It was something I was concerned about when I was watching the footage but when your sitting out there next to the stove you can barely feel it. Thanks for the comment

    Had not seen a "vargo stove" before. I'm curious, do you ever carry along just two or three charcoal briquettes to augment the thing? I can imagine starting the fire as you did, using the small twigs and such and using them to light the briquettes. Would give you a more steady and consistent heat, I would think.

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Richard Mourdock I can honestly say I had never thought of that but it is ingenious. Charcoal briquettes burn for a long time and that would save on collection and burning of twigs and branches. I am definitely going to try that thank you for the idea. ATB

    • @richardmourdock2719
      @richardmourdock2719 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ordered my "vargo stove" after seeing your vid so I guess we'll both be giving it a whirl. A half dozen briquettes in zip lock bag won't take much space in the pannier, either.

    Love the opener. I've got a question.....when do the snakes come out of hibernation and what do you do about them when you're camping?

    • @user-ty2ed8li4g
      @user-ty2ed8li4g 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dawn Owens It's still a bit too cold for the snakes to start coming out but it's right around the corner. I find it's best to use a long stick and check the area with it and clear any areas they may hide under. From what I know about them they stray away from noise so as long as you don't see any in camp its pretty safe to say you should be ok. I'm sure there exceptions so a snake bite kit is always a must.

    Thank you for a good upload. Just bought an Indian Scout and plan to tour the U.S. Just been trying to decide if cooking is really worth it only because for me, part of traveling is trying the local food and stuff but if I'm away from civilization for one or two evenings then something requiring no cooking seems like it would be easier in terms of hauling gear and food stuffs. Thoughts? Do you always cook? I also think it's nice to meet local folks in small diners and such...

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heather R Your trip sounds really exciting! Mingling with the locals when traveling is one of the best parts of a road trip. Cooking is fun but high maintenance sometimes. Dried meals like mountain house are great, and a pocket rocket stove with a cheap pot to boil water is always a good back up for "just in case". And it all packs down smallish and weighs nothing. I pack mine every trip but really try to eat local when I'm on a trip. When Camping i always bring food. If your around Chattanooga on your travels I have 3 campsites accessible by moto you can stay. Best of luck and safe travels!

    • @heathervasey
      @heathervasey 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      fireballmalone1 trash, I think you're right with bringing at minimum the basics so I can at least boil water. Dried soups, cereals, coffee tea etc... Hard to plan for every eventuality. I may take you up on the campsite offer as I'll be starting in Florida and heading north, thanks! Just looking through your other videos and got sidetracked watching the farming ones lol. Thanks for the entertainment.

      Planning is a fun part of a trip but can get to be overwhelming too. I'm taking a roadtrip tomorrow and haven't even packed, have no idea where I'm going and haven't made any reservations. Heading west with tons of camping gear, in the car, and I'll see where I end up. 8 days, a GoPro and new drone. I'm bringing my dad so not gonna ride the NC. Shoot me an email if you want to camp. Each site is loaded with wood and 1 has a picnic table. ATB

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Arthur B out here we've had some snakes when I moved in but the property was vacant for a few years. It hasn't been an issue since. Most snakes will leave you alone and are spooked by noise. Wild camping is for sure when you have to be a bit cautious. Once your set up you should be good. If you camp in an established camp site it's rare you'll see one. Good luck

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tino C thanks for the comment. It's a cool little tent, not the best but does the trick. It's called the Stansport Hunter Buddy, black granite 2 man tent. I'm over 6 foot tall and have to lay diagonal so it's not a true 2 man, but it holds all my gear. There is a rain fly but it only a small 24x24 flap that clips over the vent on top. Hopefully this helps, ride safe and atb
