- For today's review we're looking at every game in Taito Legends 1 & 2, released for the PS2, Xbox, and PC in 2005 and 2006 bringing together many arcade classics such as Puzzle Bobble and Darius, but are they any good?

The Xbox versions of Taito Legends 1&2 had a couple of exclusive games!
Color isn't the only difference between original "Space Invaders" & part 2. In part 2 you get some cut scenes, but what really sets it appart is that IF you can make it past 5000 points (or another players high score) you get to put your name on the screen up to 10 letters. Very few arcade games allowed you more than 3 letters for obvious reasons, but "Space Invaders 2" was possibly the first game to do so. Despite looking horribly cheap, "Jungle Hunt" is one of my favorites in this collection along with "Qix" & "Super Qix".
LOVE Elevator Action Returns. One of my favourite arcade games, and I'm not even a massive fan of the original.

I loved these compilations, shame the xbox discs have a slightly different selection of games, plus the Japanese discs have some different games too!

I paid £8 for the first and £5 for the second on the same day in the same CEX. I'll admit I do kinda pretend those prices were flipped but as you say I can't begrudge a fiver for the first one once I've done that.
yeah £8 isn't the worst, especially considering how much you saved on the better second disc :) you should revisit it, plenty of shooters on there ;)

I just got this game. Can you save game progress and then load a game to continue where you left off? I can’t see that option anywhere 😢
I'm not sure that you can if you mean something like save states the way modern gen retro ports allow :(
I almost bought both of these collections around 16-18 years ago on the PC for under $10 each. I regreted not for years to come. I built my own arcade just over a couple years ago. Had to get these collections. I use Launchbox Big Box as a frontend. Too many classics on these disks I can't get a licensed copy for anywhere else but I was able to grab them for almost as cheap as I could back in the day. Taito was definitely up there in the arcade era. I've collected a lot of Midway, Namco, Konami, Data East, Tecnos, Nintendo, Sega, etc. Sure there are a few titles I never play. But how can I have an arcade without Phoenix, Bubble Bobble, Space Invaders, Rastan, or even Legend of Kage?

Is legends 2 cheap in the UK? Never released in the US so all I'm seeing is $75 price tags on ebay import copies
WHUUUUUT?! That's wild! it's way cheaper here, just looked and it's going for £5 at CEX and under £10 on ebay. Maybe if you know anyone in the UK you could buy it through them and get it shipped if you wanted to save money on a physical copy?
hate it when mature adults make bundle games they could be like the cool kids and make it 9 games but nooooo they made it 68, you know what you got to love these classics when life was simple where a game was just a to b now a days its a to c then back around to b then back to a lol, any slide scrolling platform sort of game would of got me hooked on this
Regarding Taito legends 2; do the games run at the correct speed in 60hz mode?
Unfortunately not, at least for the ps2 pal version which runs at 50
@@Vakantscull huh, it says legends 2 has a 60hz option, do you mean the console switches back to 50hz after you select a game?
Front line isn't good by today's standards but look at it from the perspective of the very early 80s arcade games. It had decent game play and very good graphics and colors for the time. Only a few years newer than space invaders but a vast improvement in every aspect from space invaders. You don't see many people criticizing space invaders, mostly just giving it praises. The big problem with people reviewing these old arcade games is that almost every person who does is isn't considering how the game would have been during the time it came out instead of how it plays today. Try to imagine the games in a time capsule compared to its arcade peers of the same time. Not how the games play and look in our current day.
I actually like the Atari version from Coleco. It's not great but very Atari 2600 for sure. I'm terrible at it but find it enjoyable for whatever reason.
Incredible feat this ……and its one of those collections that has pure gold and pure poo in equal measure ….keep up the cool work x

The fact all the games _including the music_ are slowed down to match the 50hz refresh rate in the first collection is objectively annoying.
Can't get Taito Legends to work on my xbox series X or one. Gutted.

Get a X-Arcade tank stick or equivalent (I have the Atari one from the Microcenter store. Build your own arcade. Put these games on a frontend.
Despite your harsh criticism, I find Taito Legends mostly playable provided you avoid the early titles.
oh there are some stone cold classics there! most of them are just on the second volume
If you're not going to show gameplay footage of Operation Wolf then what was the point in giving us a warning?

@Vakantscull Ah. I see. In case if you don't know (I'm mostly throwing this out there as interesting trivia): The effects and chances of experiencing photosensitive epilepsy can be reduced by wearing blue-tinted Polaroid sunglasses when in the presence of strobing lights!
