Im going in this direction with a 10x6 tiny home. Got the rig livable now, just need to make it capable. It will go behind my hummer when I’m done with the engine swap. I’m on year two of the build and I’m living inside it currently. 35 grand spent already and neither the hummer nore the trailer is done. It’s a lot of work for one person and a small budget.
Sounds like that kind of project that will never be done, but always moving into its next iteration!!! When you want to present it, email pix/vids/links rvingwithjoe@gmail.com
I have never touched a welding torch in my life... or what ever you call it. I was going to RV to the Arctic and I did offer my little brother that I would buy a small welder if he would come along on the trip. If I used it, I would probably just make things worse.
A couple of caveats. It remaining gutted is essential to its offroad capabilities as it keeps the center of mass low. Also, if you notice the wheels are almost at the very back. This is also essential, but limits the size of trailer you can do this with because of tongue weight issues.
First time of a trailer with a steerable axle? I'd say no. Hook and ladder trucks, and some multi-axle towed farm equipment and semi trailers in Europe have steerable axles, to prevent ground damage and reduce tire wear. But for being used for that particular application? Definitely seems like a first. Makes me want to put a steerable set of axles on my flatbed just so it can be easier to maneuver if need be.
Yeah I looked around and saw there are some larger military trailers that do this as well. I think I would define the fire trucks as articulated vehicles with rear-steering, since I don't think the cab functions by itself, like a tow vehicle, but I have no idea. In reality this would be a cool feature, but unless you live in Moab or similar area, you would be paying for a feature that you would use but a handful of times per year. But WHEN you used it, I bet it is worth GOLD!!!
Thank you so much for the support!!!!
I’m stoked for the success of your channel. I have been watching you on Rory’s channel for years now.
Woohoo!
I only hope my Whoop Whoop of the siren as we pass gets your attention.. 😆
As someone who's been building off road square and teardrops for about 30 years, you're spot on as usual! Kool coverage.

Bust out you're welder Joe. You can do it too.

Yes although not a teardrop, any trail-trailer still needs to be as small as possible for that and many other reasons.
