This is probably the creepiest ambience in the game (and my favourite). Somehow it just feels so...lonely. It probably helps that there are no other humans except the security guards and scientists in the silo itself (and all but one of them get killed off pretty much right away).
I was just playing Black mesa for the first time today, I usually listen to white noise/ambience at night, I don't know why but I decided to search "silo ambience" and this video came up, is that a coincidence or not?
gonna try to listen to this ambience AND sleep (and end up going Straight to Hell) update!: i ended up in a liminal state where i was partially awake partially asleep and entirely terrified for several hours. 10/10 would do again
Those booming noises are not only the facility falling apart. These are also air strikes on the surface echoing beneath massive underground Silo.
