Ingredients: 1 and 1/2 pounds tomatillos (.68 kilograms) 1 small onion 3 garlic cloves or more 1 bunch of cilantro, stems and all 1 teaspoon salt or more 1 or 2 serrano chilies, top stem cut off 1/4 cup chicken broth or water is fine (60 ml) 1 additional cup of salted chicken broth. (237 ml) 1 cup of heavy whipping cream or triple cream Mexican crema. (237 ml) 1 or 2 tablespoons fat... lard or vegetable oil or 1 2 3 oil for cooking the sauce. This makes 6 cups of sauce. (1420 ml) Taste for salt!! Use this for enchiladas or anything. ESPECIALLY good over plain rice.
Well I don't want you to get fat! This is perfect over plain cooked rice, I would serve with some homegrown sliced tomatoes. The sauce is vegetarian but not vegan using water instead of chicken broth and water is fine. Thank you for watching!
I am definitely trying this. I've had no idea how to use tomatillos. I once bought one and tasted it, but never actually looked for recipes even though I liked it.
I understand not liking to cook. I remember when I moved out of dad and mom's, I decided that I must learn to cook. There was no way I could just eat out all the time.
What a timely recipe! I've been on a Mexican jag lately. I don't cook near as much as I used to but this looks easy enough. AND, it sure looks delicious enough to make the effort! Thank you, Michael!
@MichaelsHomeCooking We've had some hot days, but honestly, it's been mild so far. This weekend, I had to close my windows at night and sleep with a blanket! I imagine there are lots more hot days coming, especially mid-July through August. I tend to spend more time at work those days and enjoy the AC. Stay cool!
It's so good Shelly. Cilantro is a necessary ingredient in my mind. I would think everyone who's ever had a green sauce in a Mexican Restaurant has eaten cilantro without knowing. This is also great with plain cooked rice. Thank you for watching!
Thank you Shahana! I subscribed to you as well. I like your cooking and wish you would put the ingredients in the description, please? One recipe I would like to try is you made tilapia in like a curry sauce that looks so good. You also keep your subscriptions secret.
omgosh the tomatillo sauce looks wonderful--I crave cilantro.. Have you been gone or have I ???? Either way, good/great to see you !!! Yes I'll do this dish. Thumbs way up.
You're back!!!! YAY And I've never heard of this tomatillo sauce. Will try it. Brilliant idea cooking it in lard. Do you know why it's cooked instead of remaining raw? Thanks ❤❤❤❤
Yes I'm back for a little while. You certainly do not have to cook the sauce, but cooking it for a few minutes just mellows and brings everything together. Thank you Sue!
hello michael. i made this tonight and my roomate & i really liked it. they had block muenster at the store which I never saw before so I shredded that and used it. it looked exactly like yours and I guess it tasted the same? I liked the cream & the sweeter corn tortillas, it goes well with the tangy tomatillos. anyway it's nice to see new videos from you, youtube has been really boring lately. do you know if marc perroquet is ok?
Thank you and glad you both liked it! Mark commented on this video as @saintrude He seems to be fine as far as I know. I hope you had rice with your sauce too, I love it that way. Probably good on eggs. I had it with quesadillas too.
@@MichaelsHomeCooking yes rice was cooked in the extra chicken canned broth & extra sauce, but no tomatoes. i used a store bought rotisserie chicken. it seems like the sauce would go with most white meats (carnitas type pork?) even fish tacos or something or mxed with mayo as a condiment/sandwich spread.
Ingredients:
1 and 1/2 pounds tomatillos (.68 kilograms)
1 small onion
3 garlic cloves or more
1 bunch of cilantro, stems and all
1 teaspoon salt or more
1 or 2 serrano chilies, top stem cut off
1/4 cup chicken broth or water is fine (60 ml)
1 additional cup of salted chicken broth. (237 ml)
1 cup of heavy whipping cream or triple cream Mexican crema. (237 ml)

@MichaelsHomeCooking as long as you upload, I will be watching 👀 my friend! I use cilantro in a lot of dishes ,but on its own, it tastes like soap!

Yum!
Thank you so much!
It looks delicious, Michael. I would have to cut the spice a bit though. It’s really a pretty tomatillo sauce!
Thank you

This sauce could be eaten as soup!!!
@@suejackson5023 I agree with you Sue! Also on pasta/spaghetti. With plain white rice with this sauce over it, it's also just perfect.
