    So he can afford $250 for an NT1, but cant drop $50 on a boom arm and $30 for a decent pop filter??? Good grief...

      @lx130 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hahaha when I watched one of his episodes. I was like woah wait is that how they’re having the mics setup on the table? The lack of pop filter but more so the mic legit in front of their mouths made me cringe a bit. Lol I wanted to reach in and put the mics off axis at least.

      The Shockmount for some if the NT1’s come with the pop filter

    • @TiagoNugentComposer
      @TiagoNugentComposer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      the worst part is that the NT1 comes with a shockmount and a pop filter, so they literally have no excuse. If they're insisting on handholding the mic they could at least hold it by the shockmount.

    In my experience, most listeners to TH-cam, aren’t bothered by bad audio. But that doesn’t mean content creators should be complacent. We need to strive for the best quality possible.

    Sweet! RX8 is amazing. Another free solution would be dynamic EQ such as TDR Nova. Won't affect the tone of voice as much as high passing.

    I just tried one of their vids to see what you meant. *Ack* , even over a laptop without headphones, *ack* . They seem to be lovely fellows with good info, but that info is hampered by the plosives, which reminded me of reallllllly bad mic technique and set-ups from San Diego Comic Con back in the 90's. I watch Voice Over Body Shop, and as they stated, you can use a low self noise mic, keep it a bit further from your face, angled slightly off axis, dropped 2 inches down from or above your mouth, and still be absolutely clear w/out being "echo-ey". I've tried it with the AKG C-214 *and* the Røde NT1A (hand-held) and it works perfectly. These guys and their guests could get rid of over 70% of the plosives problem, hand-held, merely by doing that.

    As a phonetician, I have to say what you podcasters/audio engineers mean when you say "plosives" are actually "LABIAL plosives". Plosives are created by holding air coming up from the lungs somewhere in the vocal tract (between the glottis and the lips) and then releasing it abruptly (hence plosion). and are also plosives in the English language, but they're not what you're referring to, obviously.

    But no over the years getting into podcasting and sound production you have played a big role in making me a snob why are these guys holding their RØDE NT1’s??? That’s cringe asf they are not supposed to be touching those mics like that when you buy those mics they come with a ridiculous shock Mount they need to get some arms or stands and mount those mics why are you holding a condenser that close anyway smh thanks to the Bandman for doing gods work!

    Don’t know why one would use a studio condenser like a hand-held stage mic, but a foam wind screen would be an easy fix for this odd use-case. Røde sells the WS2 that’s made for the NT1-A.

    I totally see why this may be crossing a boundary like you said, but a lot of podcasts/podcasters just don't know.
    They just know mic, recording hardware/software, or a producer who handles that and that's about it.
    I edit podcasts professionally on the daily and my clients appreciate my work especially in this time of separation.
    There's plenty of things besides plosives that should happen on the Ice Coffee
    Hour but that's okay. A lot of us sound guys hear this and our ears catch on fire. But most of the people who listen to any or varieties of podcasts honestly just don't care about the audio quality unless it's very egregious. And that can mean many things to different people.
    Thanks for doing good work and creating some content. I think this will help him and his crew out, even if they don't do anything about it, it's out here and maybe one day they take it into consideration or someone sees this and takes these steps.
