  • Katy escaped her life of fear and paranoia at the age of 30, managing to outsmart the cult in 5 steps, and setting off a chain of events that saw her father Aravindan Balakrishnan jailed for 23 years.
Now, forensic psychiatrist Dr Sohom Das profiles her father and tries to make sense of his terrifying behaviour, as well as reacting to and dissecting the events that led to Katy’s brave escape.

This story is incredible. Katie is very very clever, cunning and brave. What an amazing woman. I would love to see this turned into a film.

Just saw this on Dr Sohom Das' channel. So good to see Katy speaking about her experiences. Her story is phenomenal; she has such a true authentic character. Psychiatry is key to understanding a Malignant Narcissist Cult leader. I'd be fascinated in Channel 4 analysing other UK Cult leaders. Paul Waugh (Lighthouse International Group) and "Dr" Tony Quinn (EDUCO Cult) come to mind! GREAT WORK!

Wow this is really profound , hits home with some extremism of beliefs that shouldn’t be there in the first place.

Some film maker should definitely get in touch with her, to make a movie about this insane event she went through would be amazing to have a insight!

This is an interesting story but Good lord, you don't need to explain what she's just said every 30 seconds, let the victim speak for herself. She doesn't need a translator

It’s obviously the format and contextualising what she is sharing so nonchalantly…

Try Dr Das' YT channel, he's soooo *much* more than just a "translator"!

Unfortunately for a lot of people, due to her delivery, as sge seems calm, people will not realize the severity of the situation. So the Dr is helping others to understand the weight of the abuse, how much it affected her etc. Which I am happy with tgat formar if that is what it takes to help get the survivor's story out there & properly understood by all viewers.
