From what I see the main difference between the 15inch, 16inch, and the 17inch trimmer is the motor is bigger and more efficient. The 15 is equal to a 25cc gas, the 16 = 27cc, 17= 28cc. The 15 has steel shaft, and some are brushed motors. The 16 has a carbon shaft and brushless motor and has the brush head attachment the 17 is a fixed folding shaft with the motor on the head and whisper quit. For me the. On sale price difference between the 15 and the 16 was only $40 so I purchased the 16. As for the 17 I did not consider around $100 more expensive and does not have interchangeable shafts. I do not have any interchangeable tool but it is a nice option to have. Down the road I will probably buy the edger and possibly the snow blower
I think the 17-in is also part of the quiet series. So that's something to consider as well. I am looking at the 16 inch one right now, because it's a new price of $200 with the battery and charger with the interchangeable shafts.
I just bought this for weed around my yard and it has been done in a year and I just used it to cut 3 feet tall blue grass and other grasses mixed in; dog Fennel and vines; it got the grass no problem ( just that it kept wanting to rap around the head ( 3 foot tall grass will do that) it got the vines and the 2 foot tall Dog fennel; but it couldn’t touch the 3 to 7 foot dog fennel; so I need to get the attachment that you show for light bush hogging; or I will use the battery powered 14 inch chainsaw and a stool to sit down ( I have a bad back) ; but was able to use the weed trimmer for 10 minutes before having to stop for the day 😢. But I will be using this for years to come; easy and the battery weighs more than the machine ❤
Love this tool. I have the older model. Love love the form is. Just like a gas weed eater. The battery life is ok. I cut three lawns and the battery does not last. But I would go with a 6 amp. Love that I can buy different cutting heads. The low speed is the best just if your yard is samll. Have a good day!
I just got the older model of that trimmer, it shreds. I run it at about 70% since even that is well more than needed for anything. Also got the hedge trimmer attachment, really nice
Low speed does very well for practically anything you need to cut at least for me it does. Now all Ryobi needs is a reciprocal cutting head attachment! Since I don’t have the brush cutter attachment, I had great results using the Rino-Tuff twisted trimmer line on small saplings. Ultimately yeah you should use the brush cutter attachment for that kind of stuff!
I recently purchased this item. Here's what few people tell you. Swapping out the head to use the serrated blade attachment is freaking difficult. It's hard as heck to get that thing to twist off. I've tried this on two other Ryobi string trimmers and they are all difficult to remove. If anyone out there has a suggestion as to make this easier, please chime in. Speaking of the serrated blade. Mine broke within 10 minutes of use, just trimming thicker weeds. Get ready to buy the 8 pack replacements pretty quick. Also, this thing chews through the trimmer line like theres no tomorrow. Be prepared to buy ALOT of line.
I have the older 13-15 one, I think the only difference is the guard. The rest of the unit looks identical. The head unit sure is. I use it with a brush cutter, edger, snow shovel and pole saw, expand-it is a great platform
@@33kiel I saw it thanks! 500 is not too bad! My 10+ year Victa petrol line trimmer is still going strong. Waiting for it to die, then will upgrade to this. How do you find it??
@CrystalNinja07 I'm only coming from the 18v version and a really cheap petrol and this thing seemed like a beast compared to those. I only bought it yesterday and did a quick test, it did a pile of thick long weeds in about 10 mins where the 18v would have taken me close to an hour
@@33kiel wow nice. My petrol struggles a bit, I try to cut the grass more often these days when the grass is more manageable. Last question, what sort of line do you use with this?
@CrystalNinja07 it came with a little bit of 2.4mm not much though. I've only ever used 2mm with my 18v so I'll have to look out for some 2.4mm next time I'm at bunnings
Why did they move the motor to the back? Does it make it easier for those with little stamina or arm/shoulder strength? I prefer and still use mine with the motor further down
Thanks for this video. I just bought this exact model but on the actual box it says 3in1 head. I didn't see the fixed line head. Just bump head feed and bladed head
Right now, the Ryobi Brushless 16" with 4AH battery and charger is $200, down from $280, plus has the interchangeable shaft tools. I am thinking about that one. The 17" Ryobi is $300 or $320, but does not have the interchangeable shaft tools. I have been considering EGO as the people I know say it is really powerful, but people have been complaining about the warranty support.
Got mine as well for $179 before my veterans discount but i dont see the fixed line head only the bump feed head and bladed head were in the box. Love it so far. @@lucasforsythe6488
Seems like a pretty decent upgrade over the original 40V HP with steel shaft. Any idea how it compares to the larger 17” model and the new dedicated brush cutter with the bicycle handle bars?
I picked up the 17 when it was on sale a month or so ago. Never used the 40v 16" before, just one of the ryobi 18v ones. I'd argue the 17 is almost too much for a normal neighborhood lawn, maybe for thick southern grass. Its heavy and powerful enough that its tough to make it look nice, . It rips tho, it'll dig up an inch of dirt if you let it. Also the motor is in the head so you lose the attachment options of the 16, but probably gain a little efficiency.
@@Chris-du7hi Awesome! Thank you so much for the feedback! I knew Ryobi had a whisper with the motor in the head, but I didn’t realize it was the 17” model. Serves me right for not looking. Thank you again!
Well I have 4 string trimmers I have the ryobi like you showed and a straight shaft milwaukee 18 volt string trimmer and a milwaukee split shaft trimmer and a ego trimmer . If I want speed it’s the ego but I really like the milwaukee . Yup ryobi is my last choice . Normally I grab the milwaukee because it very lite .
Just bought this on sale for $169! Man I love this. Crispy edges

What a great very well-done video. You covered everything

Good to know. I don't see these plastic blades being of much use

I have a question does the one hp plus 18 volt have the same hp as the 40 volt
These batteries compatible with the ryobi 40v mower do you know ?
Yes they are

So the same as the 15inch carbon fiber model with just the difference in guard
Can I do edging with this tool ?
You can edge with any trimmer/weedeater
40v vs 80v what's the difference?
About 40 volts
I brought the EGO over this. But I love this though. It was a hard decision since I have more ryobi outdoor tools. The EGo was rated higher
It’s almost impossible to remove the head by hand. I use a strap wrench. Otherwise pretty decent.

Nothing like the modern plastic tools.I wouldn't waste my money.
No more plastic than my Echo or Craftsman
Wow
The bump head is junk. If it jams, good luck unlocking/locking it.
Aren't you afraid you will free an angry nest of Copperheads?
Good thing the handle is long
I pack a heater.
I’ll keep my Milwaukee 😂
I returned my brand new milwaukee due to motor smoking up. So disappointed. Paid $249 for it. Replaced with this on in video and it kicks ass
