Through the years I’ve worked for guys that would always try to put me in very dangerous sketchy trees. They would always belittle what had to be done blowing smoke up my ass telling me it would be easy for me cause I’m so good they’d say.And most of them had no idea as they weren’t even climbers. August saying “here’s the crane I’m gonna climb that scary dead cottonwood myself” tells y’all everything you need to know about him. A darn good man, much respect! 👍❤️

Heaven Franklin I myself like Yale xtc Fire 1/2” x 200’. Dustin likes the Teufelberger ultra v 1/2” x 200’. But if you’re just wanting to get started you can get by just fine with Samson Arbor-plex 1/2” x 150’.
Thanks for the kind words and in the name of Jesus may God Bless you also 👍

I think I would have ran down that tree with my tail between my legs after finding that punk and called August to come deal with it. That picture of you and your baby on the crane is enough to put a smile on the Grinch's face.Congrats on the baby Adam! You can tell by the look on his face that he's already got the right attitude :)

When you said you would go up the tough tree I was immediately reminded of what Dick Winters of the 101st Airborne said. “If you’re a leader you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones you take the tough ones too”. I really enjoy watching your films Mr. Hunicke.

A Sunday Treat - a new video from you! Thanks. Listen, you are a good man for many reasons. To me, the most important one is 'you would never ask your crew to do something you would not or could not do'. The second, equally important is exploiting the crew to learn and know all facets of the risky job you all do and switching off the tasks to further enforce knowledge. These two things are HUGE and your injury rate (or lack thereof) reflects the education you put into every job. I just love to watch TALENT with the extreme ability to THINK! That would be you guys with you as the leader. Happy New Year to all of you and your families! Sonny (CT)

Once I saw you're tie in was completely horizontal, I couldn't unsee 👀 it. What an amazing job of managing so many safety issues involved over all operations. Thanks for bringing us along. I did have a thought on camera mounting. Maybe take a gopro chesty mount apart and put the camera mount on you're suspenders. Heck may even be able to add that to the options for deluxe models. Thinking just below the tether.😜

This tree probably weighed in the 16 ton range. With a 15 degree back lean and CG 50 feet up, that's a moment of 207 ft-tons, which would require about 4.1 tons pulling level at 50 feet above the notch. The ropes were inclined about 30 degrees, so required tension would need to be over 9,600lb. For shits and giggles, the required compressive force of wedges (or falling jacks) bearing 16" behind the hinge to drive it over would be 155 tons. That would require leaving hinge wood 1¾x44" to keep from blowing out the hinge by back tension if you could wedge that hard. Better have John Henry working for you.

Lots of poplar here in Indiana(state tree)
If I had to pick a species of tree to climb at its “point of no return” it’d be poplar. They’re solid in the middle years after shedding its bark. Like you said “spongy” on the outside, in my experience solid center.

I climbed a sassafras recently that was almost dead. Very solid and the woodpeckers hadn’t got to it, which told me it didn’t have carpenter ants either. So I’m climbing thinking I wonder what actually killed it?? Get to the nearly the top, where a vertical branch had broken years ago and it rotted and had completely hollowed out 10’+ below me. Ahhh. Guess I’ll cut it here then.

Wouldn't work as "reality" tv- producers incline to idiots/incompetents who destroy houses and stuff, totally opposite of these guys. Maybe viewers of that crap want to see people/stuff get busted up? Please spare me.

If you say so, to you. Not going to sea, here, you might know. But still, drama over information.

No fake drama or deadlines which is why I don't watch supposed real life TV shows. Here we have pros with a wonderful boss that get it done safely so that everyone gets to go home to family or loved ones.

Deadliest catch and Yukon gold are more drama series then anything and not putting swamp loggers down but the terrain they work in there are guaranteed to be brake downs and things getting destroyed so entertainment is made just by the nature of there cut location's but these guys are the real deal and real tree guys like myself that wouldn't rather be doing any other job because they love what they do.

Do you have two mini skids now? I see the green one is back. We demoed a SC70TX last week. That bad boy is a beast but the price tag is hard to swallow.
