    I have been using the WA7 Gen 1 for years. It recently had a drop out of the right channel, Woo fixed it and got it back to me super fast. I use it to drive HD600, 6xx and 800S and it sounds great although I use an external DAC. Now I have to think about the gen3. The balanced output is really something I want. Thanks for the review.

    The sound you described at 6:50 is what I heard, I demoed the firefly with the 800s as the main test headphone. And yea, it tamed the brightness of that headphone and also gave it authoritative bass. This is going to hurt the wallet...

    @Jayiyagi, you are the man for sharing this review. Between you and @Joshuavalour 's channel I decided to pull the trigger. My Arya & LCD-X sound incredible!!! Listening to smooth Jazz is at a higher level of satisfaction. Just seeing your expression made me realize this product has strong ROI and my trust in you and Joshua paid off bigtime!!! My favorite tube so far is the RCA Clear Top. So glad I bought additional tube sets for tube rolling as the stock tubes were good, but the Clear Tops are better to my ears.

    Jay, if you're HD 600's are your dailies, you need to check out the Bottlehead Crack (with Speedball). If you haven't already it's the magic pairing for the HD 600 series.

    Curious how this would pair with the original S400s, would it end up too smooth?
    Too bad about the missing remote. Wish they make a standalone preamp + remote out of this, that would be a killer!

    • @Jayiyagi
      @Jayiyagi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey ! In my humble opinon, they sound very different in more areas than I can count with most of it being superior on the LTA since LTA MZ3 uses different tubes and design philosophy altogether with different "features and functionalities" PLUS it costs about 3 times the price of the Woo Audio here. With this being said; Woo Audio's house sound is very attractive and I have seen many happy with it.

    • @bigbongo69
      @bigbongo69 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jayiyagi Thank You Jay for sharing your experiences. I'm at a crossroads for purchasing a new preamp and currently looking at LTA then you caught my attention with the WA7 and now I'm curious.... Keep up the great work! Cheers ;-)

    • @badgerdms
      @badgerdms 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bigbongo69 The first headphone amps that I fell in love with were Woo Audio--and I still think they are great. The WA7 complete with DAC is hard to top from a value proposition. But living relatively close to LTA I've gotten to try a lot of their gear in my house--all three amplifiers, the MicroZotl preamp, the Z10 and I actually own the Z40 integrated. Both the MZ3 (and IMO the MZ2) are just next level products. Not the typical euphonic tube sound, but the mids are every bit as magic. To me, a significant step up--but individual tastes always vary.

    Odd choice to enclose the tubes in acrylic. Isn't heat management a thing with tubes?

    • @Jayiyagi
      @Jayiyagi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@raspucin70 Heat dissipates through the glass quite easily and there are two holes open on the top. As far as the concern for over-heating; I've never really heard of that happening on the WA7s. The main concern with "glass" really is if it rings or contributes to any mechanical energy transferred aka vibrations (when you hit your desk by accident or smash your keyboard while playing games); Normally this would be a concern and you would hear it BUT in this case because the glass is quite heavy and sits on the unit to guard the tubes, it acts as more of a mechanical energy dampener and does not ring PLUS it protects the tubes and look pretty awesome :)
