Without further ado, here's my best of 2023 list! 1. Air Raid - Fatal Encounter NWOTHM, classic Malmsteen style. 2. Hellripper - Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags Black N Roll from Scotland 3. Enforced - War Remains Hardcore/Crossover. Similar to Power Trip. 4. Obituary - Dying of Everything Old-school Death legends. Heavy riffs, haunting and in your face vocals. 5. Green Lung - This Heathen Land Stoner/Doom Metal. Sabbath and Sleep influences 4. Helms Deep - Treacherous Ways Modern band with a classic vibe. Halford-like vocals, which can be overwhelming at times. 5. GAMA BOMB - BATS Modern Thrash, with tons of classic influences, headbanging riffs, funny lyrics and interesting jazzy arrangements which work very well!
Fantastic list. I agree with nearly all of these. As some others have mentioned, I would add Khymera and Robin McAuley. However, my number one choice would have to be The Defiants "Drive". Paul Laine has never sounded better and Bruno Ravel's guitar playing is out of this world. This one grabbed me and has not let go yet.
I love The Defiants, but this new album just never clicked with me. I tried a number of different times, and while good, I feel the album is nowhere near the first two albums.
I have only one. I'm totally in love with this album! 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁 The Rolling Stones - Hackney Diamonds P.S. Forever in love with the classic Kiss era '73 - '77. Merry Christmas to all of you!
Nice picks. I only have 18 for this year: 1. Metallica - 72 Seasons 2. Overkill - Scorched 3. Uriah Heep - Chaos & Colour 4. Cirith Ungol - Dark Parade 5. Jethro Tull - RokFlote 6. Nuclear Power Trio - Wet Ass Plutonium 7. KK's Priest - The Sinner Rides Again 8. Virgin Steele - The Passion of Dionysus 9. Jag Panzer - The Hallowed 10. U.D.O. - Touchdown 11. Primal Fear - Code Red 12. Ghost - Phantomime 13. Albert Bouchard - Imaginos III: Mutant Reformation 14. Matteo Mancuso - The Journey 15. Queens of The Stone Age - In Times New Roman 16. Paul Gilbert - The Dio Album 17. Galactic Empire - Special Edition 18. Saxon - More Inspirations
My #1 for 2023 is without a doubt Avenged Sevenfold-Life is But a Dream...From the day it dropped up to now, that album has been in regular play throughout the weeks. I can't say enough good things about it. The 2 new releases of Rival Sons also make my Top2023, and so do Lynch Mob and Jelusick. Have a great Christmas eve and day! Cheers.

As usual, whenever I create a "best of" annual year-end list I leave a bunch of good stuff off and 2023 was no exception at all. I probably could have made this list ten times longer and boring af to read, but that said, barring a complete miracle for 2023's last month, I have what would be the 25 albums that I enjoyed the most this year:
1. Lovebites -- Judgement Day 2. Delain -- Dark Waters 3. Hellripper -- Warlocks Grim and Withered Hags 4. Insomnium -- Anno 1696 5. Overkill -- Scorched 6. Redshift -- Laws of Entropy 7. Xandria -- The Wonders Still Awaiting 8. Perc3ption -- Art In Extreme Situations 9. Fierce Justice -- Fireborn 10. Acid King -- Beyond Vision 11. Enforced -- War Remains 12. Wytch Hazel -- IV: Sacrament 13. Restless Spirit -- Afterimage 14. Kalmah -- S/T 15. Ne Obliviscaris -- Exul 16. Echoes of Bronze -- Ilium 17. Night Legion -- Fight or Fall 18. Enchantya -- Cerberus 19. Majesties -- Vast Reaches Unclaimed 20. Midnight Vice -- S/T (the riffs on this are KILLER) 21. Excalion -- Once Upon A Time 22. Naitaka -- Emergence 23. Blood Ceremony -- The Old Ways Remain 24. Soen -- Memorial 25. Iron Savior -- Firestar Just missed: Dhaliax -- Doomed , Obituary -- Dying of Everything, Blackbraid -- Blackbraid II, Cruachan -- The Living and the Dead, Enslaved -- Heimdal, Blackbriar -- A Dark Euphony, Moonlight Sorcery -- Horned Lord of the Thorned Castle, Akilla -- The Gods Have Spoken, Omnium Gatherum -- Slasher, Powerwolf-- Interludium, Orbit Culture -- Descent, Green Lung -- This Heathen Land, Twilight Force -- At the Heart of Wintervale, Crypta -- Shades of Sorrow, Strike -- Break the Chains, Frozen Crown -- Call of the North and Exmortus -- Necrophony. Even with 25, I left off a LOT of good stuff.
Best and HEAVIEST list I've seen! You have great taste in music and I'm sure your neighbors are enjoying the heavyosity of your sonic hurricane! Or they are very, very scared!😁🤘😁🤘
The Captain’s Top Five: 1- The Rolling Stones- Hackney Diamonds 2- Metallica- 72 Seasons 3- Uriah Heep- Chaos and Colour 4- Jethro Tull- RokFlote 5- Arjen Lucassen’s Super Sonic Revolution- Golden Age of Music
Hi .. love the new Stones album ..and it’s no short term affair.. it gets better with every listen….of the 3 new albums I bought this year .. Metallica and blink 182 i think the Stones is the clear winner… Yes only 3 new albums 😂… but many box sets … With Who’s Next being quite a stand out release.. Happy new year and May you’re ears remain forever golden…..
glad to see kk priest overkill and metallica on your list among some others. you need to check out a band from japan called LOVEBITES a heavy metal band who is now my favorite band surpassing metallica!!!
In no particular order: Chaos & Color- Uriah Heep Sacrifice- Sweet & Lynch Jericho- Last in Line ID.Entity- Riverside 72 Seasons- Metallica Darkfighter- Rival Sons Sinner Rides Again- KKs Priest Guns For Hire- Tailgunner Stoned Again- Max Boogie OverDrive III- Winery Dogs Midnight Rose- Paul Rogers Scorched- Overkill Rites of Percussion- Dave Lombardo Can’t find the brakes- Dirty Honey Touchdown- U.D.O. In Times New Roman- QOTSA Mammoth II- Mammoth WVH Stone- Baroness Hackney Diamonds- Rolling Stones Horns for a Halo- Elegant Weapons Congregation of Annihilation- Metal Church Bloodlines- Tygers of Pan Tang Golden Age of Music- Arjen Lucassen's Supersonic Revolution
Solid list, but I think if you liked Trevor Rabin, and Peter Gabriel then you would definitely liked Dave Kerzner heart land mines vol. 1 personally one of the best I've heard in quite some time.
I'm probably in the minority on this but I really was not impressed with the Stones album. To me it's similar to pretty much every Stones album since 1980 where there's a few really good songs along with a bunch of filler.
For the simple reason, you are holding the latest "Metallica" album in the thumbnail, means you are not taking this seriously. So I won't be watching this. Thumbs down on this one.
Great vid. Mammoth II was my number 1 for 2023. Wolfie is just so darn talented. I would also include Blackbird Angles, Lynch Mob, Revolution Saints, and Heaven’s Edge in my top selections. Looking forward to many new releases in 2024 including Mick Mars, James Durbin, and hopefully some Bruce Kulick
À nos âges on ne peux plus tergiverser . Ma petite liste va à l’essentiel : Canibal Corpse ´chaos horrific ´ Kreator ´hate uber alles ´ Sup ´octa ´ Enslaved ´heimdal ´ Metallica ´72 season ´ Immolation ´act of god ´ Cryptopsy ´as gomorrah ´ Rolling Stones ´diamond ´ Obituary 2023 Saxon ´fire ´ 2024 Overkill ´scorched ´
My favorite studio albums of new material for 2023 (still working on some of the ordering, which I will finalize before the end of the year): 1. The Rolling Stones - Hackney Diamonds (definitely my favorite and best album I bought this year.) 2a. Metallica - 72 Seasons 2b. Overkill - Scorched (This album and 72 Seasons tie for 2nd because I can't and won't decide which one is better. They are equally great and both were released on the same exact day this year.) 4. KK's Priest - The Sinner Rides Again (Another great album by them. I think I like this one even better than their debut, which was also great. Can't wait to catch them in concert when they come to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky next year.) 5. Vintage Trouble - Heavy Hymnal (Vintage Trouble are always fun to listen to and this is no different. Also, they are great live performers. I've seen them open for The Who in the past and they were great. Just great music by these guys. They deserve to be bigger than what they are.) 6. Pretenders - Relentless (Despite it being ballad-heavy, I really like it. The rockers on this album are great as are a couple of the ballads. Probably my favorite Pretenders album since the early-mid '80s.) 7. Chris Boltendahl's Steelhammer - Reborn In Flames (Grave Digger's Boltendahl's first side project album is just as good, if not better, than some of the most recent Grave Digger albums from the past 10 years or so.) 8. Tempt - S/T (Never knew about this band before this year. This album is their 2nd album and they've been around since 2016. They are a young hard rock band out of New York. Their style is in the same vein as '80s Hard Rock ala a young Def Leppard and other similar '80s Hard Rock bands with pop tendencies. They are very talented. I will be keeping an eye on their career now because of this album that I took a chance on after seeing a review of it and watching a TH-cam video. They have opened for some big bands over the years too, including Iron Maiden, Metallica and Bon Jovi. They also have collaborated with Brian May.) 9. Dokken - Heaven Comes Down (My favorite Dokken album since the '80s. Don might not be able to hit the high notes anymore, but he sings well on it and the music is fantastic.) 10. Jag Panzer - The Hallowed (Typical solid Jag Panzer album. Fans of this Power Metal band will like it. They never disappoint, except the one time they changed their style in the mid '90s to conform to Grungy sounding industrial metal.) 11. Primal Fear - Code Red (Would be ranked higher on my list if not for the awful Dynamic Range. This album is an earbleeder. Desplite that, the music and the songs are great, as is the singing by Ralf Scheepers. I did like their previous studio album, Metal Commando, a little better than this one.) 12. Mammoth WVH - Mammoth II (A solid sophomore album from Wolfgang Van Halen. I did like his debut album a little better than this one, but this one is still great.) 13. Alice Cooper - Road (A typical, fun AC album. No complaints on this one. You always know what to expect from a new AC album and this one is no different.) 14. Brian Setzer - The Devil Always Collects (Fun Rock N Roll/rockabilly album from Setzer. Probably his best one in a long time.) 15. Greta Van Fleet - Starcatcher (Of their three LPs to date, this is their best LP. Though, IMO, they still haven't topped their debut EP.) 16. John Mellencamp - Orpheus Descending (A solid Mellencamp album. It's in the same vein as all his recent albums with his raspy singing about various social issues in America. Americana at its finest. Fans of his early years, expecting his pop sounds from the '70s, 80s, 90s and early 00s will be disappointed. But if you enjoyed his output from the past 10-15 years, you won't be disappointed. I did enjoy his previous album, Strictly A One-Eyed Jack, more than this one, though.) 17. Last In Line - Jericho (Solid Last In Line album. I liked it better than their previous album but not quite as much as their debut. They've come into their own since starting out as a tribute to Ronnie James Dio (Dio Band.)) 18. U.D.O. - Touchdown (The music here is outstanding. My only problem with it is I was never a fan of Udo's singing style. If I liked Udo's singing, this album would definitely be pushing for a top 10 spot in my final list. 19. Ann Wilson & Tripsitter - Another Door (Ann Wilson is fantastic on this and her backing band is very good too. Though, I wish it had rocked a little harder than it actually does. There are a couple songs that do rock hard, but most of it is pop/rock. Also, don't make the mistake of listening to this album expecting Heart.) 20. Dolly Parton - Rockstar (This is a fun album to listen to. I enjoyed listening to her take on some classic rock songs, collaborating with various rock legends and even listening to her 9 or so original rock songs.) #1 through #9 on my list are definitely making my final top 10 list of 2023, with maybe a slight different ordering past the top 4 (top 4 are set in stone.) #10 through #13 are fighting for the final spot in my top 10. #14 through #20 are honorable mentions that I enjoyed this year also. Note: I didn't include box sets, archival releases, reissues, live albums, etc. Those will have their own separate list.
Great List!!! This is my 23 best albums of 2023 (I did put covers albums and re-recording albums on here): 23. Drastic Symphonies - Def Leppard 22. Take No Prisoners - Alcatrazz 21. Get It Right - Heaven's Edge 20. Heavy Hitters II - George Lynch & Jeff Pilson 19. Mammoth II - Mammoth WVH 18. In Times New Roman... - Queens Of The Stone Age 17. Starcatcher - Greta Van Fleet 16. Babylon - Lynch Mob 15. Code Red - Primal Fear 14. Wrong Side Of Paradise - Black Star Riders 13. Blues Deluxe Vol. 2 - Joe Bonamassa 12. Chaos & Colour - Uriah Heep 11. More Inspirations - Saxon 10. So I totally agree with your #1!! Going to grab the studio/live Stones album in January.
Great list Brendon. My fav of the year is Metallica. Also love Hawkwind's latest which you mentioned some months back but I guess did not appeal. Happy holidays from rainy windswept Wales
I expect to see Dirty Honey on a lot of people’s lists. I really liked the first single but the rest of the album didn’t do as much for me. But I know for a lot of people, they really enjoy the band.

Yeah I don’t know how the band allowed that mix to be released. Who sat back at the end of mixing and said “yes that’s what it sounds like in my head, we have captured what I want for the world to hear”….????
No particular order but these would be finalists for me. That! Feels Good! - Jessie Ware The Beggar - Swans Desire... - Caroline Polacheck 3D County - Geese O Monolith - Squid The Loveliest Time - Carly RJ Javelin - Sufjan Stevens The Land is... Mitski Hellmode - Jeff Rosenstock Zach Bryan - Zach Bryan This Is Why - Paramore i/o - Peter Gabriel Did you know... - Lana Del Ray
Hi Brandon, hope you had a good Christmas. Just to say thanks for all your efforts over the year and this really interesting and eclectic list. Lots of crossover with my own list, plus a couple I need to check out as I didnt give them a chance til now (eg CANDLEBOX, John MELLENCAMP) Never been a big fan of the punkier stuff, but hey, you cant like everything! Here's my top 10, for what its worth, of albums not on your list... 1 ELECTRIC BOYS "Grand Explosivos" (Funky hard rock) 2 TEMPT "S/T" (Stellar AOR from NYC) 3 SORCERER "Reign Of The Reaper"(Fabulous Heavy Metal) 4 ECLIPSE "Megalomanium" (Great Scandi AOR/melodic hard rock) 5 KAMELOT "The Awakening" (Power metal perfection) 6 AD INFINITUM "III - Downfall" (Female fronted symphonic metal) 7 URIAH HEEP "Chaos and Colour" (Classic British Rock) 8 ARJEN LUCASSEN'S SUPERSONIC REVOLUTION "The Golden Age Of Music" (Ayreon mainman's paen to the 70s) 9 DEFIANTS "Drive" (3 × ex DANGER DANGER members, classic melodic hard rock) 10 ELEGANT WEAPONS "Horns For A Halo" (Sorry Brandon, but this is Ronnie Romero's best album of the year, alongside Priest's Richie Faulkner) I will add, as honourabke mentions, the 2023 albums by RIVAL SONS, LALU, RIVERSIDE, DELAIN, PRIMAL FEAR, SOPHIE LLOYD, SIRENIA, STEVEN WILSON, HURRICANE... damn, there's too many!!!) Sorry if that was too much to read on one go, hope there's something new for you to discover! Thanks again, and all the best for a Happy New year and a great 2024!
My number one The Whos Next box set...........Anyways just like to thankyou Brendon for all the shows you have done this year...brill Im just waiting for the new Dream Theatre to drop next year.........Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
My Album of the Year is definitely Anthems ,Crimson and Jettblack'! Great Vocals- amazing Songwriting- Superb Musicianship from one of the best Metal-Bands out of Japan!
Thanks Brendon! There are a number of albums from your list that I want to check out. Here is a list of mine that I have, I may be missing a couple. I love Jethro Tull/Ian Anderson, but I find it hard to listen to Ian's voice at this point, so I did not include Rokflute. 1. Darkfighter - Rival Sons 2. The Awakening - Kamelot 3. Lightbringer - Rival Sons 4. Hackney Diamonds - Rolling Stones 5. Can't Find the Brakes - Dirty Honey 6. Pretty Vicious - The Struts 7. 72 Seasons - Metallica 8. Dirty - Malina Moye 9. Peace...Like a River - Gov't Mule 10. Starcatcher - Greta Van Fleet
#1 for me is, by far, Gloryhammer - Return To The Kingdom Of Fife. They really held nothing back and it's as OTT as I had hoped, despite featuring a new singer. Some other great ones: Delain - Dark Waters Evermore - In Memoriam Midnite City - In At The Deep End Temple Balls - Avalanche Valkeat - Fireborn Warmen - Here For None As usual I haven't spent enough time with most albums, so a real list will have to wait. Happy holidays!
my favorite of the year came from one of my all time favorites..also seems to have gotten better with age.. Ian Hunter and Defiance Pt 1 .. featuring a host of guest players ,,,,,including Ringo Starr, Slash and Mike Campbell
2023 was a fantastic year for new releases, in my opinion! I didn't buy a lot of new albums this year, but here are my top five: 1) Rival Sons' 'Darkfighter' 2) Dirty Honey's 'Can't Find the Brakes' 3) Withering Scorn's 'Prophets of Demise' 4) The Rolling Stones' 'Hackney Diamonds' 5) Overkill's 'Scorched' Thanks for sharing your top 23 albums from this year, Brendon!
I was pleasantly surprised by how good the Trevor Rabin album is and that is could actually beat the new album from Yes. But it was so cool to get the two eras of Yes and one year like this. 👍
ann wilson 's album is in my top 10,I think it's a rich, versatile, well crafted and produced album,I just like all the songs...Paramore is my no1... I think....masterpiece...to my ears...36 minutes of perfect infectious stuff, top to bottom.
Shorthand sweet Brendon, my number one didn't feature on your top 23. Duran Duran "Danse Macabre "...captivating. Every track dark as Halloween, as was intended by its release date. Personally, every track an absolute banger. It has been on my rotation list since release and still there today. Thank you Brendon, for all the hard work and dedication you have put in place to keep these fantastic videos flowing throughout the year. Happy New Year in advance to you and your loved ones. Your Kiwi fan, Andrew.
Greetings from Germany. Nice list. I know you are more a rock guy then a metal guy. But than I wonder why there is no Uriah Heep or Rival Sons in your list?
Awesome list Brendon. That Rolling Stones album has no business being that good. A real treat for long time fans. Love your content, keep up the good work!
The new Vandenberg was a surprise. I didn’t expect that he could beat the 2020 album but Sin is amazing. Both of which I think are his best albums ever, even beating the first 3 albums.
Here’s my list of 2023 releases that I’ve picked up thus far but in no particular order. There’s a bunch on your list, Brendon, that I still need to pick up! Thanks for your posts, it helps me discover new or undiscovered artists and albums! 1. Vandenberg - Sin 2. Staind - Confessions of the Fallen 3. Godsmack - Lighting up the Sky 4. LA Guns - Black Diamonds 5. Winger - Seven 6. Heaven’s Edge - Get it Right 7. Sweet & Lynch - Heart & Sacrifice 8. Roadwolf - Midnight Lightning 9. Blackbird Angels - Solaorte 10. Ray Alder - II
I agree about The Rolling Stones. "Hackney Diamonds" was such a surprise this year. I expected it to be good, but I think it's a very good, almost excellent album. The first Stones album since 1989's "Steel Wheels", where I liked every song. It comes in at #2 for 2023 for me. My Top 10 Albums Of 2023: (10) Steven Wilson "The Harmony Codex" (09) Skating Polly "Chaos County Line" (08) Miley Cyrus "Endless Summer Vacation" (07) Paramore "This Is Why" (06) Taylor Swift "Speak Now"/ "1989" (Taylor's Version) (05) Bob Dylan "Shadow Kingdom" (04) Madison Beer "Silence Between Songs" (03) Lana Del Rey "Did You Know That There's A Tunnel" (02) The Rolling Stones "Hackney Diamonds" (01) Olivia Rodrigo "GUTS"

That’s the exact same experience I have with the Metallica album. It’s a great album but I too never reach out for it but when it’s on, I really enjoy it. I think, for me, it’s just the length time being so long makes it feel like a chore
You know what? I bought that thing on the week of release but beyond one or two sample tracks I haven't even listened to it all the way through yet. Those guys have just become so frustratingly and disappointingly underwhelming since '96 that I'm no longer inspired to really care. Sad but true (Ha! Groan!). At this point I think the only reasons I continue to purchase their output is a) legacy/loyalty to the old days, b) to support the genre and physical media sales in general, and c) because I have 'The curse of the collector' and I just have to complete their discography. Overall though, Metallica are no longer an act for me who really impress in any major way. And that's something 18 year old Me would never have thought I'd say.
Neither of which released new albums or any sort of album at all this year. Had Bad Religion released an album it would have been on my list. Been listening to both bands for more than 30 years. 👍

Great list, Brendon. I own most of these on cd as well and enjoy them all. Nice seeing Paul Rodgers ranked so highly. I have had a lot of fun this week revisiting all of the 2023 releases I picked up this year. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas.
It’s a shame you put the dreadful and embarrassing Mirror To The Sky on the list but not Trevor Rabin’s new album Rio which is much more lively, energetic, fresh, and inspired… EDIT: I just got to the Rio section! So glad you included it! It’s an amazing album and I’m happy you put it over Mirror To The Sky!
Why would you not watch the whole video before making such a comment? I’m guessing you were the student that didn’t read the question before answering too? 😂👍
@@JIF882 nope I love Drama and Fly From Here and even Heaven & Earth. If it was just Jon missing I’d be ok but it’s also Chris, Alan, Tony, Rick, Trevor etc
@@JIF882 yeah Steve Howe’s not an original member either what’s your point. Howe and White did FAR more for Yes than Banks or Bruford. And if you wanna play the “he’s not an original member” game, then none of the original members are in the current lineup so you just proved my point, it’s not Yes…
Great list Brendon! Here's mine for this year:
1. Revolution Saints - Eagle Flight
2. Edge of Forever - Ritual
3. Vitalines - Wheels Within Wheels
4. T3NORS - Naked Soul
5. Kent Hilli - Nothing Left To Lose
6. Ronnie Romero - Too Many Lies Too Many Masters
7. Soledriver - Return Me To Light
8. Midnite City - In At The Deep End
9. Cry of Dawn - Anthropocene
10. Nitrate - Feel The Heat
11. Khymera - Hold Your Ground
12. Kamelot - The Awakening
13. All For Metal - Legends
14. Tailgunner - Guns For Hire
15. Fifth Angel - When Angels Kill
16. Powerwolf - Interludium
17. Gloryhammer - Return to the Kingdom of Fife
18. Bloodbound - Tales From the North
19. Delain - Dark Waters
20. Robin Mcauley - Alive
21. Stryper - The Final Battle
22. Crowne - Operation Phoenix
23. Magnus Karlsson's FreeFall - Hunt The Flame
My favorite album of 2023 is ‘Treacherous Ways’ by Helms Deep. It’s actually just one of my favorite albums of all time now.
Without further ado, here's my best of 2023 list!
1. Air Raid - Fatal Encounter
NWOTHM, classic Malmsteen style.
2. Hellripper - Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags
Black N Roll from Scotland
3. Enforced - War Remains
Hardcore/Crossover. Similar to Power Trip.
4. Obituary - Dying of Everything
Old-school Death legends. Heavy riffs, haunting and in your face vocals.
5. Wytch Hazel - IV: Sacrament
Christian metal, with a trad flair. Very catchy and good riffs.
6. Powerwolf - Interlludium
Modern Power Metal giants. They're blowing up. Don't miss the boat on them.
7. Smoulder - Violent Creed of Vengeance
NWOTHM. For fans of Chastain. Fronted by Sarah of Banger TV.
8. Nervosa - Jailbreak
Modern Death with classic Thrash influences. All-female.
9. KNIFE - Heaven Into Dust
Modern Black N Roll/Thrash.
10. Legion of the Damned - The Poison Chalice
Very catchy and melodic modern Thrash.
Honorable mentions:
1. Cirith Ungol - The Dark Parade
Classic metal legends. Celebrating their farewell tour in 2024!
2. Crypta - Shades of Sorrow
Nervosa-esque (ex-members) with harsher vocals/screams.
3. Green Lung - This Heathen Land
Stoner/Doom Metal. Sabbath and Sleep influences
4. Helms Deep - Treacherous Ways
Modern band with a classic vibe. Halford-like vocals, which can be overwhelming at times.
5. GAMA BOMB - BATS
Modern Thrash, with tons of classic influences, headbanging riffs, funny lyrics and interesting jazzy arrangements which work very well!
Merci pour OBITUARY , c’est une œuvre incroyable pour un groupe aussi ancien . C’est leur 14 albums je crois ?
the disrespect for Ronnie's main band Lords of Black is real.
Good call on that Candlebox album. It’s WAY BETTER than what anybody probably expected from the band at this stage of their career. I really like it!
🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁

18. Saxon - More Inspirations
My #1 for 2023 is without a doubt Avenged Sevenfold-Life is But a Dream...From the day it dropped up to now, that album has been in regular play throughout the weeks. I can't say enough good things about it.

Have a great Christmas eve and day!

1. Lovebites -- Judgement Day
2. Delain -- Dark Waters
3. Hellripper -- Warlocks Grim and Withered Hags

6. Redshift -- Laws of Entropy
7. Xandria -- The Wonders Still Awaiting
8. Perc3ption -- Art In Extreme Situations
9. Fierce Justice -- Fireborn
10. Acid King -- Beyond Vision

21. Excalion -- Once Upon A Time
22. Naitaka -- Emergence

24. Soen -- Memorial
25. Iron Savior -- Firestar

Best and HEAVIEST list I've seen! You have great taste in music and I'm sure your neighbors are enjoying the heavyosity of your sonic hurricane! Or they are very, very scared!😁🤘😁🤘

I’ll have to check out your #5 as I’ve never heard of them, but I like the name.
@@BrendonSnyder Just incredible sort of a Deep Purple tribute of all original material. Let me know what you think. Cheers 🍻
Hi .. love the new Stones album ..and it’s no short term affair.. it gets better with every listen….of the 3 new albums I bought this year .. Metallica and blink 182 i think the Stones is the clear winner…
Yes only 3 new albums 😂… but many box sets … With Who’s Next being quite a stand out release..
Happy new year and May you’re ears remain forever golden…..

The best album of the year: Hakny Diamons. Rolling Stones!!!!
Ma petite liste va à l’essentiel :
Canibal Corpse ´chaos horrific ´
Kreator ´hate uber alles ´
Sup ´octa ´
Enslaved ´heimdal ´
Metallica ´72 season ´
Immolation ´act of god ´
Cryptopsy ´as gomorrah ´
Rolling Stones ´diamond ´

Saxon ´fire ´ 2024
Overkill ´scorched ´
SLEEP TOKEN - RAKE ME BACK TO EDEN is my #1 album for 2023!!
1. Hakny Diamons- 2. I/O Peter Gabriel. 3. Mirror to the sky Yes
We need more metal on the channel , maybe some metal videos, too much old timers , prog
The metal has dropped off
Sorry the “metal” content isn’t up to your liking Dean. I have more interests than just metal and the channel is built around what I like. 🤷♂️
My favorite studio albums of new material for 2023 (still working on some of the ordering, which I will finalize before the end of the year):
1. The Rolling Stones - Hackney Diamonds (definitely my favorite and best album I bought this year.)
2a. Metallica - 72 Seasons
2b. Overkill - Scorched (This album and 72 Seasons tie for 2nd because I can't and won't decide which one is better. They are equally great and both were released on the same exact day this year.)
4. KK's Priest - The Sinner Rides Again (Another great album by them. I think I like this one even better than their debut, which was also great. Can't wait to catch them in concert when they come to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky next year.)
5. Vintage Trouble - Heavy Hymnal (Vintage Trouble are always fun to listen to and this is no different. Also, they are great live performers. I've seen them open for The Who in the past and they were great. Just great music by these guys. They deserve to be bigger than what they are.)
6. Pretenders - Relentless (Despite it being ballad-heavy, I really like it. The rockers on this album are great as are a couple of the ballads. Probably my favorite Pretenders album since the early-mid '80s.)
7. Chris Boltendahl's Steelhammer - Reborn In Flames (Grave Digger's Boltendahl's first side project album is just as good, if not better, than some of the most recent Grave Digger albums from the past 10 years or so.)
8. They also have collaborated with Brian May.)
9. Dokken - Heaven Comes Down (My favorite Dokken album since the '80s. Don might not be able to hit the high notes anymore, but he sings well on it and the music is fantastic.)
10. Jag Panzer - The Hallowed (Typical solid Jag Panzer album. Fans of this Power Metal band will like it. They never disappoint, except the one time they changed their style in the mid '90s to conform to Grungy sounding industrial metal.)
11. Primal Fear - Code Red (Would be ranked higher on my list if not for the awful Dynamic Range. This album is an earbleeder. Desplite that, the music and the songs are great, as is the singing by Ralf Scheepers. I did like their previous studio album, Metal Commando, a little better than this one.)
12. Mammoth WVH - Mammoth II (A solid sophomore album from Wolfgang Van Halen. I did like his debut album a little better than this one, but this one is still great.)
13. Alice Cooper - Road (A typical, fun AC album. No complaints on this one. You always know what to expect from a new AC album and this one is no different.)
14. Brian Setzer - The Devil Always Collects (Fun Rock N Roll/rockabilly album from Setzer. Probably his best one in a long time.)
15. Greta Van Fleet - Starcatcher (Of their three LPs to date, this is their best LP. Though, IMO, they still haven't topped their debut EP.)
16. I did enjoy his previous album, Strictly A One-Eyed Jack, more than this one, though.)
17. Last In Line - Jericho (Solid Last In Line album. I liked it better than their previous album but not quite as much as their debut. They've come into their own since starting out as a tribute to Ronnie James Dio (Dio Band.))
Also, don't make the mistake of listening to this album expecting Heart.)
20. Dolly Parton - Rockstar (This is a fun album to listen to. I enjoyed listening to her take on some classic rock songs, collaborating with various rock legends and even listening to her 9 or so original rock songs.)
#1 through #9 on my list are definitely making my final top 10 list of 2023, with maybe a slight different ordering past the top 4 (top 4 are set in stone.) #10 through #13 are fighting for the final spot in my top 10. #14 through #20 are honorable mentions that I enjoyed this year also.
Note: I didn't include box sets, archival releases, reissues, live albums, etc. Those will have their own separate list.
As far as I'm concerned one can throw out Megadeth and especially Anthrax out of the Big Four and replace them with Testament and Overkill. :D
Congratulations for this video. Excellent Brendon!!

@@BrendonSnyder Thank you 72 Seasons from MEtallica and the latrst Overkill are excellent as well
For me best heavy power metal album is theocracy mosaic !! What a great album !!
Good list. Really like your jab at Kiss, the band who have been on a "Farewell" tour for what seems like forever now.
Yeah they started the first Farewell tour in 1999 and then started this latest one in 2018….both of which were ridiculous for them to do.
Great list Brendon. My fav of the year is Metallica. Also love Hawkwind's latest which you mentioned some months back but I guess did not appeal. Happy holidays from rainy windswept Wales
"Disciple" from Taliesin (Australia) is the BEST album in 2023!!!

1 ELECTRIC BOYS "Grand Explosivos" (Funky hard rock)
2 TEMPT "S/T" (Stellar AOR from NYC)
3 SORCERER "Reign Of The Reaper"(Fabulous Heavy Metal)
4 ECLIPSE "Megalomanium" (Great Scandi AOR/melodic hard rock)
5 KAMELOT "The Awakening" (Power metal perfection)
6 AD INFINITUM "III - Downfall" (Female fronted symphonic metal)
7 URIAH HEEP "Chaos and Colour" (Classic British Rock)
8 ARJEN LUCASSEN'S SUPERSONIC REVOLUTION "The Golden Age Of Music" (Ayreon mainman's paen to the 70s)
9 DEFIANTS "Drive" (3 × ex DANGER DANGER members, classic melodic hard rock)
10 ELEGANT WEAPONS "Horns For A Halo" (Sorry Brandon, but this is Ronnie Romero's best album of the year, alongside Priest's Richie Faulkner)
I will add, as honourabke mentions, the 2023 albums by RIVAL SONS, LALU, RIVERSIDE, DELAIN, PRIMAL FEAR, SOPHIE LLOYD, SIRENIA, STEVEN WILSON, HURRICANE... damn, there's too many!!!)
Sorry if that was too much to read on one go, hope there's something new for you to discover!
Thanks again, and all the best for a Happy New year and a great 2024!
looks like you missed our album STARQUAKE at the Circus ;-)
Not familiar with the band, but like the name! 👍
Neo70sRock, Deep Purple and Uriah Heep influences, with a little prog influence (Gentle Giant, Spock's Beard)
Great list Brendon I agree on most of them. Whish you a Merry Christmas and a Very Happy new year. Greetings from California.
Merry Christmas Xavier!
Great list
My number one The Whos Next box set...........Anyways just like to thankyou Brendon for all the shows you have done this year...brill Im just waiting for the new Dream Theatre to drop next year.........Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
My Album of the Year is definitely Anthems ,Crimson and Jettblack'! Great Vocals- amazing Songwriting- Superb Musicianship from one of the best Metal-Bands out of Japan!
In this genre LA Guns Black Diamond is a Top Album for me…consistently the best “Sunset Strip” band still doing original material IMO
i’m looking to see if the new Spirit Adrift cd makes the cut
Great album!
Thanks Brendon! There are a number of albums from your list that I want to check out. Here is a list of mine that I have, I may be missing a couple. I love Jethro Tull/Ian Anderson, but I find it hard to listen to Ian's voice at this point, so I did not include Rokflute.
1. Darkfighter - Rival Sons
2. The Awakening - Kamelot
3. Lightbringer - Rival Sons
4. Hackney Diamonds - Rolling Stones
5. Can't Find the Brakes - Dirty Honey
6. Pretty Vicious - The Struts
7. 72 Seasons - Metallica
8. Dirty - Malina Moye
9. Peace...Like a River - Gov't Mule
10. Starcatcher - Greta Van Fleet
Thank you for all your videos Brandon. Happy New Year 🎉
I highly recommend:
Katatonia - Sky Void of Stars
Big Wreck - Pages
The 2 best albums I heard this year. Cheers.
#1 for me is, by far, Gloryhammer - Return To The Kingdom Of Fife. They really held nothing back and it's as OTT as I had hoped, despite featuring a new singer.
Some other great ones:
Delain - Dark Waters
Evermore - In Memoriam
Midnite City - In At The Deep End
Temple Balls - Avalanche
Valkeat - Fireborn
Warmen - Here For None
As usual I haven't spent enough time with most albums, so a real list will have to wait. Happy holidays!
Nice to see Dokken and Winger so high on list, I have to check them out now! Nice list Brendan.
What? The albums have been out this long and you haven’t checked either out yet?! Come on man….dont miss out on two killer albums from 2023!! 😂😉🤪
my favorite of the year came from one of my all time favorites..also seems to have gotten better with age.. Ian Hunter and Defiance Pt 1 .. featuring a host of guest players ,,,,,including Ringo Starr, Slash and Mike Campbell
2023 was a fantastic year for new releases, in my opinion! I didn't buy a lot of new albums this year, but here are my top five:
1) Rival Sons' 'Darkfighter'
2) Dirty Honey's 'Can't Find the Brakes'
3) Withering Scorn's 'Prophets of Demise'
4) The Rolling Stones' 'Hackney Diamonds'
5) Overkill's 'Scorched'
Thanks for sharing your top 23 albums from this year, Brendon!
Mellencamp? Over overkilll...lol c'mon man
C’mon what? 🤷♂️
Hey Brendon! Merry Christmas! YES at #11 and Rabin at #9! I agree with this. Definitely a win for YES and Trevor in 2023!👍🎅🏻☃️🎄🎁🧑🎄🤶☮️😎
I was pleasantly surprised by how good the Trevor Rabin album is and that is could actually beat the new album from Yes. But it was so cool to get the two eras of Yes and one year like this. 👍
I agree. Rio is awesome!🎅🏻😎@@BrendonSnyder
Loved Overkill scorched! Metal Church as well. Metallica 72 seasons.
ann wilson 's album is in my top 10,I think it's a rich, versatile, well crafted and produced album,I just like all the songs...Paramore is my no1...
Awesome, Vandenberg at # 4, Winger at # 3 and of course Rolling Stones at # 1!
The new Vandenberg was a surprise. I didn’t expect that he could beat the 2020 album but Sin is amazing. Both of which I think are his best albums ever, even beating the first 3 albums.
Yea. I thought new Vandenberg was better than 2020 release. Both very good. This one sounds like a heavier Whitesnake while carving its own path.
Loved Stoned Again by Max Boogie Overdrive and Darkadelic from The Damned.
A Very Merry Christmas from Sweden
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Dirty Honey should be on everyone’s list!
They would all have to be Dirty Honey fans first 😂👍
@@BrendonSnyder Lol. Well I am. I think they are fantastic.
Dirty Honey is on my list!@@johncrutchfieldjr

I agree about The Rolling Stones. "Hackney Diamonds" was such a surprise this year. I expected it to be good, but I think it's a very good, almost excellent album. The first Stones album since 1989's "Steel Wheels", where I liked every song. It comes in at #2 for 2023 for me.

All three are killer bands and so happy to get new albums from each this year.
@@BrendonSnyder Merry Christmas brendon.🎄🎄

19:00 fantastique record !
Phill Campbell and the bastard sons have a great album and nobody mentions it and it was my no 1
We all have our own personal favorites
Metallica 72 my number #1 for year 2023
I suspect it will be for a lot of people.
If you like punk, check out Pennywise or Bad Religion
Neither of which released new albums or any sort of album at all this year. Had Bad Religion released an album it would have been on my list. Been listening to both bands for more than 30 years. 👍

Great list, Brendon. I own most of these on cd as well and enjoy them all. Nice seeing Paul Rodgers ranked so highly. I have had a lot of fun this week revisiting all of the 2023 releases I picked up this year. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas.
Thanks for the list of course. I got several of those and will probably get more. Have a great Xmas, thanks for giving us a great year😊💿🎶
My pleasure Eric, Merry Christmas!
It’s a shame you put the dreadful and embarrassing Mirror To The Sky on the list but not Trevor Rabin’s new album Rio which is much more lively, energetic, fresh, and inspired…
EDIT: I just got to the Rio section!
