Grace Mary Williams (1906-1977) was one of the first professional Welsh composers of the twentieth-century to attain significant national recognition, and is now recognized as one of the greatest female composers of the XXth Century. Her large output encompasses two symphonies, several symphonic suites and symphonic poems, concertos for piano, violin, trumpet and oboe, as well as large-scale choral works, numerous vocal compositions and a few chamber and solo instrumental pieces.

I have a fond memory of being in the cello section of the North Wales Youth Orchestra, when in 2019 our repertoire included this piece. Such wonderful music!
For years before TH-cam my only exposure to the music of Grace Williams was her Fantasia on Welsh Nursery Rhymes. There is so much of her great music here now. What a revelation! Thanks to all who have given us these uploads!
So beautiful. Glad I've been introduced to Grace Williams' works.
Me to Joanne.
Simply sublime!
Loved this for many years. For me, one of the best pieces of music ever composed.
Has such a Ralph Vaughan Williams lilt to it that I wondered if she was his wife or a student of his. Turns out she was the latter. Beautiful music.
Vaughan was teaching in London. Grace W, Elizabeth Maconchy, Lutyens and many others was their students.
Beautiful isn't it. The first movement is a real favourite of mine.
