Cotrubas was a great Gilda,She had the incredible Ability to capture the character she always portrayed vocally & artistic!y.Her Traviata is superb & is the only one I ever purchased. VIVA COTRUBAS 👑 💚. Arnold Bourbon Amaral
Much obliged for posting this video! Placido Domingo was in his vocal prime at the time and, despite the high tessitura of the Duke's part, one which he despises owing to the blatant cynicism of the character,he fared quite well in this production. For those interested, several arias from the same 1977 performance are also available on TH-cam.
I have it & my it is Stellar. Her Boheme at Covent Garden & Antonia in Hoffman are top notch as well. Her Boheme with Pavarotti at La Scale is great as well. Cotrubas consideration that performance one of the best Bohemes she ever performed. VIVA COTRUBAS 👑 💚 Arnold Bourbon Amaral
Ileana is my favorite soprano of all. It is a pity that so few of her opera performances were committed to film. I would have loved to have a DVD of her doing Traviata and Tosca. Domingo and she were thrilling together.
There is a video recording of Ileana’s Violetta from the Met. To my knowledge she never sang Tosca on stage and certainly she didn’t record it. Ileana is divine but Floria Tosca is not for her, and she knew it.
Cutrubus had the perfect lyric voice she had no equal when it came to Traviata Boheme Pamina Gilda Etc she was very intelligent & she knew her limits . She was WAS going to do Butterfly but it never came about she would have been incredible. She was deeply loved in Europe and she's singing all the major Opera Houses xcetera she had a beautiful high e. That BEAUTIFUL dusky Soprano. She was also my favorite lyric soprano. I have all her recordings. DVD ETC, HER recital CD IS EXCELLENT. This entire opera was on U TUBE AS AS TRAVITA but it was removed. I wish they would post them back they were incredible. Arnold Bourbon Amaral
UppityG Livestockian this performance is available on DVD. My wife got it on Amazon @ a very good $ also it's available through the Met @ full price & I must say it is well worth it. A fine collection to your OPERA DVD collection. Sincerely Arnold Bourbon Amaral ENJOY my friends. 😳👂💃
There is a wonderful movie version of Traviata directed by Zeffirelli, with both Cotrubas and Domingo in the main roles. One of the best opera movies I ve seen.
Ileana Cotrubas sings like a lovely lark..her luscious full creamy soprano sitting right on the note every time..bringing forth all the nuance and expression of Verdi's love struck virgin who dies a brave and most stirring death
Am cunoscut- o pe Ileana in anii 60 cind era solista Corului Radioteleviziunii Romane... Eu cintam in cor si Ileana era solista. Imi amintesc de vocea ei angelica.... Apoi, intr- o zi am auzit ca a ramas in strainatate. Zece ani mai tirziu am plecat si eu din tara...😢
they are incredible !! .. the Met now needs its horrible Rigolettos set in casinos and cars and worse, falsely translating its subtitles from the original Italian meaning to fit the screwy plots, because NO ONE CAN SING LIKE THIS NOW .. ❤
7:51 I knew Domingo wouldn't take the high C#, but Cotrubas could have easily - she sang an E flat on the same night at the end of act two. It's so much more thrilling with those high C#s.
Cotrubas H--E was never forced or strained. Her beautiful creamy dusky Soprano was very unique. And had that innocent child like quality. That made her very special. Arnold Bourbon Amaral
My thoughts exactly! Although some of their productions are still great - take their Pearl Fishers, Boheme, Tosca, Dialogues des Carmelites, Carmen and not least, Turandot, all of which are traditional and phenomenal productions (apart from the Carmen, which is updated to the Spanish Civil War).
They settled for mediocrity And of course The masses are not educated and don't really understand the most incredible art form in the world Opera. Also lack of Administrative leadership & so called musical directors and Conductors. Arnold Bourbon Amaral
I have the DVD and I do enjoy Cotrubas and Domingo. But in his various memoirs, Domingo said this role was very uncomfortable in his voice. I always preferred Placido to Luciano or Jose, but Pavarotti’s voice was perfect in this role.
Besides her beautiful, femenine voice, Miss Cotrubas is so accurate and precise in her notes. Always in tune. Perfect rendition.
Very beautiful!

Mind the chest voice of Cotrubas's first Addio!❤It's the key of clear and clean female opera voice, which you cannot hear anywhere now.
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡Genia!!!!
Dear Luis Rendas Pereira, I wish my bad days were like Placido's.

It’s actually a Db, if you read the score.
@@wotan10950 Point taken :)
This is so much better than the 'Vegas' production 2013. Whatever happen to the Met...

I liked the Vegas production very much! I’m tired of seeing the same “Verona” sets.

Хороша Джильда.
Ileana is wonderful. Who is the great mezzo?
What a charming liar!!!
Yes, I detest the character of the Duke but Placido got that charming sleaze down exactly here. haha.
YOUR BAD my friend. Lol Heartbreaker Dream taker.🤔😎 👽 Arnold Bourbon Amaral

he wasnt in a good day
????
Domingo always struggled with the High C.He was probably really a Baritone.???
🤔
@@arnoldamaral3814 don't give him ideas 🤣🤣🤣
PD voice isn't a baritone. His voice is easily identifiable as a lyric spinto. Do some research and open your ears.....
Domingo is not suited for the role of Duca.Domingo is the most overestimated singer ever.He sings in his big nose.Awful.
