Ok…So, let me get this straight: This man’s little girl is missing; kidnapped for ransom. He has just been briefed by a detective about how to handle the kidnapper’s call. He is sitting in a room by himself (?) where his sole job is to wait for the call from the kidnapper. He then at some point gets a hang-up call and…TELLS NO ONE?! How in the world does that make any darn sense?! You are beside yourself as a parent because your child is missing and you are just waiting for that call, but you don’t think a hang-up is important? 🤨
It probably never happened. Idk if you have ever been through a traumatic event but it’s very very common for people to misremember these events! Lots of people forget or accidentally add details that didn’t happen, or leave things out when trying to recall the event. My sister and I went through a very scary and traumatizing situation when we were 18 and 20. Years later we talked about it and remember some things completely different even though we lived it together side by side. For example I vividly remember a gun being pulled out and aimed right in her face but she swears it never happened.
@@Roxannexoxoxo- reliable witnesses can, indeed, have discrepancies in their story. No one has perfect memory. However, typically the discrepancy is an omission rather than a creation - and typically, the omission is tangential to the underlying event. In this case, the behavior of JR is curious on at least two fronts. From his perspective, his very young daughter is missing. There is a letter detailing *how* she came to be missing. ‘Missing’ has turned into ‘kidnapped’. So, he operates - all actions from then on - are measured on that baseline. The major activity is “How can I get her back?” The minor activity is “How was she kidnapped?” That’s it. Everything should revolve, that morning, around those two activities. The second activity is partially answered - someone (or group) entered his home, and extracted her from the home after the Ramsey’s returned from the party … which leads to a juxtaposition to the first activity: The act of searching the home takes him away from the “How can I get her back?” activity - which is to be ready and waiting by the phone for instructions. This juxtaposition is critical for analyzing everything that occurs that morning and into the afternoon, yet one that does not seem to cause conflict to JR - he’s given instructions to await a call, is coached on how to handle the call, and then is asked (and readily agrees) to step away from the major activity - the primary, hyper-vigilance activity- to seek an answer to something he already knows partially. And that rejection of the primary action for the minor action is curious behavior that morning. And then, JR drops a bombshell in the middle of this that a mysterious phone call occurred - which should have heightened the vigil near the phone - and would keep him *at the phone* because THAT is supposedly the major activity… “How do I get my daughter back? I wait for the phone call promised by the kidnappers, and follow the instructions! … OH! Someone called! And hung up! I will sit here and wait for them to call back! Get someone else to search the house for things out of place!” The ONLY reason for leaving your vigil by the phone is that you know the phone call will not come. A mysterious call would heighten the major activity, and quash the minor activity - IF you believed the kidnapping and ransom demand instructions were real. JRs actions fly in the face of what should have been his primary concern and activity.
@MollysMom5 I don't think there's enough definitive evidence to prove that one of the family members did it beyond a shadow of a doubt. Not yet, anyway. About a year ago, it was announced that police investigators obtained more usable DNA from JonBenet's clothes or the crime scene. What's strange is that there's been nothing mentioned about it since then. Exactly how long does it take to analyze DNA, anyway! Now, I could be wrong. Perhaps it was only like 6 months ago. Still, it's well past time to get some answers. But to your point, the entire family has responded extremely strange to the questioning and in their general behavior on the day she went "missing" and to their subsequent reactions since then. Furthermore, there is a lot of evidence that's extremely damning to every member of the family. Unfortunately, nothing substantial enough to prosecute. I feel like there's one piece of important evidence that has been overlooked. I believe it's the key to finding the killer and those involved.
@ThreeBall-t3l NOT my 'feelings', but rather cold hard FACTS. Did you even know that Alex Hunter, then Boulder County DA, swept the case under the rug by ignoring that the sitting grand jury had indicted both John & Patsy? The travesties of justice list for this case is very, very long. I've lived near Boulder since b4 the m*rd*r & still do. I am a scientist & a mom with 2 sons who are close in age to JB. Of course, I followed this case very closely!
Not likely because the person who knows what happened is refusing to tell the truth. John and OJ claim they are looking for the real killers. Or at least that is what OJ claimed. I know Judge Joe brown claims OJ didn't do it but we have an eyewitness that seen him and the vehicle he was in speeding away from the crime scene. I think Judge Joe Brown has a bias because he was roommates and friends with OJ in college from what he said. John knows who took the life of Jonbenet Ramsey. John is going to take the secrets to his grave because his son definitely won't confess to knowing anything or if he had any involvement himself. The chances that some random person or close friend broke into their house and was able to get around the house without being detected is not likely.
Honestly, how could she get justice? She’s passed away and wouldn’t know about it, unless God lets people know what goes on earth after they pass away. She is probably with The Lord in heaven. As Christians, we are not allowed to judge the soul of anyone, meaning heaven or hell. That is God’s judgement, whose name is written in The Book of Life. But being a child and exposed to The Word, The Holy Bible, she probably heard the gospel. God says “Vengeance is mine, sayeth The Lord!” Meaning whoever did this whether dead or alive…judgement will be declared. If the person or persons repented of it, then God would judge fairly based on the person’s genuines. Yes, this was one of the sickest death’s we have heard of. But to all readers…if Jonbenet was average looking or ugly, and just another child who was brutally abused or murdered, which we are talking about, by now, millions, ???, no one would care! The emphasis on her life , looks, and money makes it make so much news on here and the media. Let’s be fair everyone…everyday, children younger and older are being murdered, abused, and sacrificed, and no one hardly cares! All children matter…what about in Africa, Ukraine, the Middle East, and the trafficking of millions of children, plus I didn’t even mention the millions of abortions! We need to have a fair and just understanding that all lives matter! In my own opinion of her, I believe based on all the evidence and every you tube and books, that the brother and her had a tussle, he chased her, got the flashlight, struck her head, not meaning to kill her, but she sadly died and both parents had to make up this entire story to cover both his tracks and theirs.I really don’t think this is some big mystery…it seems too obvious based on common sense that that’s probably what went down…but we will never know the sequence of the blow by blow events. Pray for those who loved her and that they find Jesus before they leave this world! Plus all the commercials of very ill children is heartbreaking…as they are suffering along with their parents every day. Our love and compassion matters to all, to love one another.
@@shirleystein6521 yes it is allegedly it's totally alleged that someone in that house killed her what do you mean if it's speculation with no cold hard facts it's alleged
@@ThreeBall-t3l That means we are all being given very misleading information. I have no idea what to believe anymore. I saw an interview with the police woman (forgotten her name), and she clearly stated in the interview that JBR's father found her in the basement and brought her upstairs into the sitting room, and the police woman was totally shocked.
Amazing that most of us probably never heard of this elusive phone call wow. I wonder, if it were possible someone had picked up another phone inside the house and that’s what he had heard and picked up
Did the police not find it strange that the kidnappers had written in the ransom note that they knew how much bonas money Jon Ramsey would be getting how would the kidnappers have known that.
From what I understand, Burke's movements through the house after 10 pm in the basement were documented all the way up to JBR's death, if you know what I'm saying.
Thx Nick for continuing to shed light on some of these older unsolved cases where the details can still have life regarding what occurred during those fateful tragic events
Here we go, 1. Mom is controlling but only over certain things, she cares about living thru JonBenet, not about keeping house, thus the house keeper. 2. There was some kind of abuse in that household by someone, thus the bed wetting, except for Burke, whom I still believe could become a serial killer. 3. JB was put into bed, got back up (messy bed) because she knew Burke was getting their favorite snack and she wasn’t, maybe Burke had left and changed clothes and came back to JB taking a bite, he explodes, shoves her off of stool and hits her with MagLite. ( because her was the favorite until that “little thing” came along. )Parents come in and panic, tell him to keep His mouth shut and go to bed, which is why bowl isn’t finished. 4. Parents step into action to create a cover up, even to admit what happened was an accident, would put them in a “bad light” that they weren’t the perfect parents and that wouldn’t go with Patsy image. 5. Crime scene photos show plenty of snow to leave tracks and the weather center had provided the amount they received when this first happened. There were no footprints outside the house, anywhere. 6. Parents play dumb and call everyone to get tons of well wishers to parade around the house to mess up evidence, right down to John carrying her upstairs, of course his DNA would be found on her, he carried her. Since there was workmen in the house previously, it would have been easy to get DNA from a hammer or tool to put on her. Yes, I watched this when it first was unfolding and couldn’t believe the parents/family weren’t blamed for this, even back then.
Personally I don’t think Burke was that mean to Jon Benet. I’m hearing conflicting reports about that tho. He did hit her in the head with a golf club but then you hear that he loved his little sister. You have to remember their ages, we aren’t talking about fully developed adults here.
If there were four people John Patsy Burke and Jonbenet in the house that night,,,,,,,,hummm who came Santa Claus to kill ???? stupid blind people it was John who killed her murderer
WHY did the Ramsey's do EVERYTHING the alledged kidnappers said NOT to and family was being monitored. Parents often DON'T contact the police for fear of upsetting the kidnappers.
Me too, she was wishy washy if that makes sense. Call it intuition which is not actual fact of course but has not proven me to be wrong with many other things.
I believe the 'hang up call' was an inside intercom call from another part of house. You have a pic of their multi line phone! Would explain no record of an outside call.
Why would the murderer use Patsy’s notepad to do a first draft of the ransom note, why would JP have two puncture wounds matching the pinholes of a Lionel train track. Why would JB be found in the train room. Why would the murderer write in a similar handwriting to Patsy…
I took it as the hang up call was to set up the line tap for the police. also wouldn't the phone have rang throughout the house, down in the kitchen etc? much respect for sluething these nooks and crannies.
There were no fingerprints on the flashlight, nor on the batteries. Why?? Who wipes down fingerprints on the batteries in there flashlight? Someone trying to cover up a murder, or parents covering for their child. I have always thought it was Burt that hit her in the head with the flash. I don't think he trying to kill her, in fact he didn't really kill her. She was seriously injured, but still breathing very shallow. The parents assumed she was dead. She died by the garret cutting off her breathing when it was tightened around her neck.
Or maybe it was just as he said: he picked up and they had ALREADY hung up. His pilot friend, the maid or any other acquaintance who hadn’t quite found the right words yet and in the moment hung up before anyone could have a chance to answer…I think we’ve all done that, for whatever reason, changed our mind at the last moment and hung up. Once Jonbonet was discovered, the point was mute - the kidnapper would as you said, have no reason to call. therefore that possibility was eliminated so why would John mention what was essentially something so insignificant when in contrast they were nerve-rackingly waiting for the news about their child. I’m Not saying you’re wrong, Just saying that you can’t claim there aren’t other logical possible reasons if you’re thinking logically.
I remember when this first happened and I had little kids and everything in my first instinct was as I had four children around her age at the time without any noise or anything on Christmas Eve is to be in a Santa Claus costume
Yet, when the time came for the “ransom call” neither parent expressed the slightest concern the time had passed with no call. It’s almost like they knew nobody was going to call because they didn’t have their daughter.
Most logical is that many are having problems understanding what is the meaning of those words that he said in that "shortage", "artistic" manner ~ and to translate the meaning of his words said like that: Entire morning someone would call, but with every caller he would end up conversation quickly ~ because he would dich everyone since every call he received was not from the kidnappers and he needed the phone line open. That first one who called understood him and said nothing just hung up as quickly as that caller could without word said. With every next caller he would try to find words how to end up conversation, a different way to ditch callers to the house since not all who called understood the situation and he was having problems finding the words since he couldn't concentrate on anything else but the fact that none of the calls was the one he was expecting, prepared and focused how to conduct when it finally happens, and the line should be open to that. But none of the calls was the one he expect. That is how I understood it, and not for a second did I think someone ~ as in meaning of being maybe one of the kidnapers ~ called and hung up.
Wow, yes, that's huge; if there was a hangup caller that morning, the details of that would be crucial for the investigation. But there was no call, so John lied in my opinion and that's interesting. Next to the basement. To the batmobile.
Like you say I totally agree it’s a diversion ( ransom note and saying someone called) to take the focus off the facts and to try to create more doubt about what really happened.
I recently heard that the Ramsey lost another daughter. She was older than Jon Benet. This family has so much tragedy. No one has ever mentioned it. I think she died in a car accident.
Yes, she had only died the year before. John was in the middle of grief counselling and was using coping mechanisms to process Jon Benet's passing at the same time as well. He said he thought that's why a lot of people felt he was acting too calm at the time.
Burke never mentions it again because it never happened. Rich people can use resources to hide their discretions whenever needed. We common folk don’t get that kind of consideration
I've been wondering has John ever said who he thinks is responsible for his daughters murder? If that ransom note is genuine, then it sounds like the writer knows John???
Also it seems odd that John Ramsey would be hanging out in John Andrew's bedroom, waiting for the kidnapper to call. Didn't he have a phone in his office - with multiple buttons to be able to accept several call lines at a time?
The brown paper bag was found in John Andrew room & something else I can’t remember. There was also a back pack in there . The random sweatshirt on the sofa they covered John Bonet with.
Finally someone is talking about that call!!!! 👏there was also a call made from the Ramseys house to the police the day before, can you mqke a vid about that?
Is it right that following 1 call that morning, John went out and came back over an hour later in quite a stressed state? And that is when Linda Arndt asked him to recheck the house as a way of diverting his agitation. Is it possible up to the point of the call he genuinely didn't know what happened, but the caller was someone who he was connected with, who told him Jonbenet was killed and where she was?
John knew Burke did it. Waiting for the kidnappers’ call was just a necessary part of the play. Burke wrote the script, and John took the lead and directed the action from the morning on.
I agree. The call in question never happened. There would be “in real time” investigative collaboration, if it did. Waiting for a call was likely something Ramsey had to do to keep up the illusion that his daughter was kidnapped; stalling for time in hopes that someone other than himself would discover his child’s body.

Why his daughter was brutally sexually a 4:30 ssaulted and murdered. That's the real John Ramsey.
@@Sandi-zh2wx yes I would say 99% it was one of them. But I lean more to Patsy. She did it out of jealousy, because she found out about the year long sexual abuse by John and maybe even John Andrew. Therefore the book was on the kitchen table and the side that was open was about inszest. What I m shure about is that Patsy wrote the ransom letter, it’s pretty obvious if you compare the handwriting. I m also shure Jonbenet was raped for years, because she was numerous times at her pediatrician because she had issues.. also the bedwedding and that autopsy result, where it was stated by several pathologists. And who is the most likely perpetrator for the abuse? John. What I m still thinking about- the knot at the paint brush, with what Jonbenet was strangled was very difficult and John knew to make such a knot not Patsy.
What about the brother with the flashlight after her eating his pineapple, patsy definitely wrote the letter. It's all so strange but it was almost definitely one of those people in the house that night.
@@veritehunt78 Every word you said. I wonder if the vacation with other family starting that morning was some kind of deadline in Patsy's mind, like now or never, to eliminate the risk of JonBenet telling aunts or cousins what was going on, as well. Patsy could have faked illness to stay home, but then there would be the next family vacation. It's like she put it off and put it off, until she couldn't put it off.
What is with the name of John’s book?🥴🤢 Fitting, acknowledging some guilt with the title? I get what he thinks… but think of all the meanings it could really have. Awful.
There was no record of the dropped call and nobody is corroborating that John had ever answered this call. I think it was just a meaningless detail made up by john that he subsequently forgot about in later recounts of his experience. And the reason he forgot is because it never happened in the first place.
One thing I don't quite... Why the expectation that the hijacker calls at 10 am this day and not the next day as written in the letter. Letter isn't dated and it was late in the night. And it was expected that the letter will first time read in the morning. "Next day" says letter
The whole story stinks like fish. I still think Patsy wrote the rasom note. Someone or all of them are lying. The mysterious pineapple that was found on her stomach. Well she must have gotten up in the midde of the nite.
John Andrew's room was where Patsy said she had been packing? Putting clean clothes ready to go away with in the days before, and, theoretically, packing the night before. Interesting. I didn't know they had the phone monitoring stuff in there.
I hate them. Because of covering themselves and trying to throw anyone and everyone under the bus good people were destroyed - Like Detective Thomas and poor old Santa. One of them did it
I think that this strange call that John reported about to the police is incriminating him. The intruder would not call it doesn’t make any sense, it would only dangerous for the intruder to call, the call could be traced to him. At the same time the intruder would not have had any material benefit to call since John Benet was already dead. This made up story could only be explained as a red herring or as an evidence in favour of the intruder theory. The police should be suspicious about John from the get go.
The call could have been from anyone not just the intruder. Like you said JB was dead so no need to call. Or a simultaneous disconnect as John picked it up.
A short call might not be traceable in 1996. If we take the intruder/kidnapping route, I just don't see how that RN could have been expected to be found at any other time than that morning, so the "tomorrow" in the note cannot mean that same morning, it has to mean the next morning. Thus the reference to being "well rested". I still don't think "tomorrow" in the note is given enough discussion. Still don't understand why they are awaiting a call that same morning.
@bills6093 The entire RN is just bizarrely worded, IMO... And I agree, that the "tomorrow" should've/ would've meant the 27th, not the 26th... I think that's where the writer of the RN screwed up... Jonbenet was put to bed at roughly 10pm... IIRC, Patsy claimed she packed a bit for their Michigan trip, did laundry or ironing(???)... In any case, I wonder if Patsy "went to bed" before midnight, if at all... A woman like that doesn't put the same clothes on that she'd worn to a Christmas dinner party... especially not to travel in the next morning... How does she wake up at 5:30am, get dressed, put make up on, do her hair, go downstairs to find/read the RN, run upstairs to tell John, check JB's bedroom and go back to the kitchen to make the 911 call at 5:52am??? 22 minutes??? I'm having a problem with that timeline... I've always had two theories... 1. Patsy got too rough with JB during a bed wetting incident... 2. Burke hit her with that flashlight because JB swiped pineapple... I've also always wondered why the 25th was put on JB's headstone... Just my thoughts and opinions...
They put December 25 th as the date of dea.. , for JB , so they assumed she died b4 midnight , or right out knew she was dead . So the tomorrow in that case would be the 26th . If they got home at 9:30 ish as they said , that’s not much time for all he.. to break lose like it did .
Tomorrow can mean when the sun rises in a few hours. If I say tomorrow when it is 2 am, I mean in a few hours at sunrise. You would be watching the clock like a hawk on both mornings if your child had been kidnapped.
Could somebody lay out for me the Ramsey theory of what happened? Ransomer changes mind and kills kid? Ransomer conducts entire process from the basement, Ramseys disobey instrucs, ramsomer kills kid? Whats the theory?
Wow... Nick is really stirring in the goo... and a lot comes floating at the surface. Heard a lot I had not heard yet.... WOW. Like the monitoring of the phones.. and he had a hung up phone call... Good analyzing! Burt's room and the basement are good next points.
The best minds have disected this crime. They know there are only 3 people to choose from that did this crime. Stop the bullshit. It's a disgrace to that little girl that suffered.
Back in the day, didn’t they have to keep a caller on the (land) line for over a minute or so to be able to get a trace on a call? My mom had a stalker many years ago and I know she had to try to keep the caller on the line long enough for the phone company to be able to see where the call was coming from. It might explain why there was no record of the call. However, why would John have thought this call was not important? Sounds fishy!

Aspects I want looked at. 1. What has been said about John's investigation into his company to look at people who are adversarial to his business. At the end of the day the foreign faction was aware of John's business. Has he mentioned how he went about looking into the company at all? 2. Did John make any calls that morning to ask work colleagues if they had also been contacted by the foreign faction or even had their children abducted by the faction? He would have seen the amount of money which surely would have had him think of his business dealings as the reason why the faction had come to his house. 3. In the Ramseys' legal team's '70 facts that prove their innocence' there is mention of a baseball bat in the house that morning which didn't belong to the Ramseys. This made me think of all the things in the house which could have been staged to have police think that an outsider was responsible but have been overlooked as the house is so big/the crime scene wasn't established. Another is the torch, at least in my opinion, and of course the ransom note. Surely there were many other items moved to move the narrative in the direction of thinking it was an intruder. We know that there was at least some deception as Jonbenet's clothing was changed and she was sanitised also. 4. Can someone explain why, even to this day, Burke hasn't been interviewed by the police? It seems extraordinary that this hasn't happened. Has he at least given a document to the investigators about what he observed when he was last downstairs. He has admitted he went downstairs after everyone had gone to bed and his information would be immensely pertinent. Is it possible to hand a document with information to investigators and have it accepted or are interviews the only accepted transfer of information by police?
Just came across your channel. You give very insightful info. What I wonder is what's your take on the huge manuscript of a ransom note and the odd $118K mentioned for ransom as most kidnappers would round out to an amount of $500k, $1M for example and the fact that was John Ramsey's bonus amount.
@BlackStump172 Sure, "Jan". 🙄
It seems very apparent John is very impressed with himself and the ability to say and do what ever he wants and we must take it as the truths.
So sad this murder has not been resolved. Keep up your excellent comprehensive work Nick. Thank you. Cuddles for Timmy and Ivy.💕🇨🇦💕
Who is Ivy?
That sweet little girl, I pray she gets justice soon🙏🏼

I’m loving these mini episodes, Nick!
The only Jonbenet coverage I watch!
Yes it makes sense I think they were trying to distract the cops a lot😊
Here we go,
( because her was the favorite until that “little thing” came along. )Parents come in and panic, tell him to keep
His mouth shut and go to bed, which is why bowl isn’t finished.

Thank you for another authentic analysis, Nick
John R. Asked to police several times to test the DNA and they refused.

@@rakesfunnyfarm yes! But why won't LE follow through?
There were no fingerprints on the flashlight, nor on the batteries. Why?? Who wipes down fingerprints on the batteries in there flashlight? Someone trying to cover up a murder, or parents covering for their child. I have always thought it was Burt that hit her in the head with the flash. I don't think he trying to kill her, in fact he didn't really kill her. She was seriously injured, but still breathing very shallow. The parents assumed she was dead. She died by the garret cutting off her breathing when it was tightened around her neck.
Burke SMEARED HIS FECES ALL OVER JonBenet things and her room. He was abusing her.
Or jealous. Feces smearing is a sign he himself was being abused. ( possible)
If they cannot get the names right from the get and that mystery remains unsolved as well. “John Henry?!” Wtf?!

I’m pretty sure the phone company can trace hang up calls, the number at least

@@Sandi-zh2wx yes I would say 99% it was one of them. But I lean more to Patsy. She did it out of jealousy, because she found out about the year long sexual abuse by John and maybe even John Andrew. Therefore the book was on the kitchen table and the side that was open was about inszest. What I m shure about is that Patsy wrote the ransom letter, it’s pretty obvious if you compare the handwriting. What I m still thinking about- the knot at the paint brush, with what Jonbenet was strangled was very difficult and John knew to make such a knot not Patsy.

You're assuming there was an intruder to begin with.
Who's going to be "well rested" after their daughter has been (not) kidnapped

@@Flowersofromance6-fs4pb patsy took acting classes she was the best actress in the room , the day that they were waiting for that so called phone called, one of the investigators observed patsy with her hands up to her face peeking to see if anyone was looking at her crying her crocodile tears. She was a narcissistic mother from the beginning they got worse with her health issues that does not give her an excuse nor am I saying that you’re giving her excuse to do what she did to jonbenet .
@@redlady8296 yes I’m fully aware that she died from ovarian cancer but I have no sympathy for narcissistic monsters like her.
@redlady8296 the stress probably caused the cancer. She was consumed by what happened in that house
That call could have been someone who knew about JB's demise because they helped cover it up. Maybe, the Patsy having an affair with a neighbor theory might be true.
I always found that part stcking out as too weird and not plausible in reality.
