What are your favorite apps to use on macOS?

thier is free and opensource alternative for magnet - rectangle .

Why does no one use Rectangle instead of Magnet? It essentially does the same thing but is open source.

      Rectangle (Pro) is awesome! 👍🏻

Same thoughts. It’s literally perfect for my needs. Free and open source and they constantly update it

And with rectangle pro you even have custom window sizes and much more 👌

I use 'Rectangle' (free) instead of Magnet. 'Karabiner Elements' (free) for fixing functionality with certain keyboards. 'PixelSnap' (payed) for easily measuring things on the screen. 'Lulu' (free) for port monitoring of Apps phoning home. 'Eyeballs' because it serves hardly any purpose 😅 but amazingly still works even if being quite old.

@@szerli4023 Unfortunately, I still haven't found one that will stretch your window over more than one screen.

The first thing I always do when I set up a new MacOS system is turn on "Hot Corners" under "Desktop & Screen Saver" or "Mission Control". I set the top left corner to "Put Display to Sleep". This makes it extremely easy to put the screen to sleep before walking away from the computer. Sure, sometimes it accidentally triggers, but just click the mouse and it comes right back on without asking for a password immediately.
Also, using virtual desktops in Mission Control is very handy if you use a single monitor. Really helps organize if you tend to have a lot of windows open at once.

I love Magnet, it cost me only a few dollars years ago, and it still actively maintained. Apart from that, I use Acorn for the occasional image editing, Filezilla for FTP transfer. I alternate between Typora & IA Writer for writing text. And finally, Reeder for RSS consumption.

I still use spectacle. It’s no longer supported but it’s free and the shortcut keys make sense using the arrow keys. I can move organize multiple windows from screen to screen and from region to region without leaving the keyboard. Magnet works but Spectacle is so simple and free

Love the Affinity Suite as well as Pixelmator Pro. I cannot stretch enough how crazy good value for money those apps are.
Also I always set up VSCode as one of the first apps on my Mac

Thank you for putting in the effort to create this video. I was hoping for recommendations on organizational apps. Yet, this collection feels indistinguishable from the many Mac app videos on YT. Considering your intro about being a disorganized creator, I'm curious about how Magnet aids in your organization. It might improve the user experience, but I'm not convinced about its impact on organization. Keep it up, your are doing awesome.

I use magnet since the day I bought my first Mac, three years ago. Was a Windows and Linux user before that, and not being able to do something so simple and productive as window snapping was a boomer for me, but thank god Magnet is very cheap

As someone about to dip their toes into the world of macOS ecosystem, this video and the comments below is a field trip. I’m making notes like crazy. I’m about to get a second-hand M1 MacBook Air 16/256 and coming from Windows/Linux environments, it’s kind of unnerving. Like, will I find the applications I want? Will that MacBook Air be enough for my daily use (which includes video/audio editing for youtube). I find comfort finding out there are a crap-ton of apps, many of them free and open-source. I still hate the fact that many of them have turned into subscription services like Ulisses. I wonder if anything like SetApp would help streamline this.

I like that Magnet, going to try it out. Two of my personal favorite apps are GIMP (the open source image manipulator) and Macgo Blu-ray. I'm old school and have a blu-ray collection (TBH, I'm just old).

Do you have a go to colour picker?
    A couple apps I like:
    - FlyCut clipboard
    - colorSlurp - colour picker
    - ImageOptim - makes images smaller
    - Giphy capture - a screen capture tool that can create a gif
