- When the Zeonic Company’s space combat MS-11 Act Zaku development project was canned, the Zimmad Company quickly responded by making a variant of their well-proven MS-09 Dom ground combat mobile suit. It was near the end of the One Year War in UC 0079, and the Principality of Zeon, realizing that the outcome of the war was going to be decided in space, devoted all of its mobile suit manufacturing resources to space combat units. Refining the Dom design for space was simple, and mostly involves replacing the hover jet thrusters with standard rocket thrusters. The result was the MS-09R Rick Dom, and Zeon manufacturers begin cranking out hundreds of these new units late in the war, replacing the aging MS-06F Zaku II as the premiere front line combat unit. A variant of the Rick Dom that had its generator enhanced for the testing of mobile suit-portable beam weapons. It was armed with a "beam bazooka", an experimental high-powered beam cannon originally used by mobile armors. Due to issues with the cooling system, the beam bazooka was impossible to mass produce and only assigned to a small number of veteran pilots.

Damn, they replicate the 90s artstyle but just enough that you can also tell there were some modern touch ups.

@berandom2000 I mean Gundam came out in 1979, it was inching towards being an 80s anime
70’s, 80’s, and 90’s were the prime of Japanese animation… way better than this today’s cgi.
Combining modern animation with old style aestethic is a great idea, I love it.

Yeah, that first guy managed to dodge several of Char's shots, pretty rare for standard Zaku's.

Even if they are though they're still being controlled by pilots.
If Zeon could make autonomous suits of that skill at this point in the war, things would have gone very differently.

@@voltronimusprime3833That being said, inert munitions get used on unmanned targets all the time in the real world. If you don't need to get data on destructiveness, you try to preserve your target.
Love the bit of melee they did where they're basically whacking at each other with nerf versions of their heat weapons :D.
that might be because its probably a practice run
so they roughly lowered the power of both beam and heat weapon s where soiled rounds are replaced with paint balls.
I’d love to see more UC animated in this mix of modern and old school. Absolutely loved how it looks.

This one comes from the novelization of Gundam 0079.
He also had an entire newtype squadron at his disposal, so maybe this was a training session for them.

At original anime, he has never used Dom, but in the novel Dom is his last suit to use.

Gotta love that old bazooka sounds from the dom. It's not the usual explosive type buts still has that nice after fire sound. Wonder if you could do a compilation of zeon/fed shooting sounds for ASMR

小型化できなかったから大型になった威力ビームライフル説とビーム兵器の技術が煮詰まってないから威力イマイチの大型化説と弾数少ないけどビームライフルより威力ある説
ジオンのビームバズーカは、大破や中破したチベ級やムサイ級の主砲を流用してるので、威力はそれに準拠

Rick Dom is actually worse than zaku II the turning times respond is very bad it can easily be out maneuver by any units.
