There is no justification from shipping point of view. Suez canal and Panama canal eliminate very long trips from Mediterranean sea to Indian ocean and from Pacific ocean to Atlantic ocean. This 70 km canal does not save much in reducing shipping distances. It may be technically feasible to build this canal, but it will be a waste of resources.

the canal idea was a joke and never intended to be made, and it does not serve any purpose, it does not shorten the way for ships, in Bahrain for example the ports are located in the northern part, so what kind of a shortcut will it make?
And regarding the jobs, the cost of making a 70km canal will never justify the profit or the jobs that it will make

You seem to assuming that this project has to make sense in that backs up their statements.
since they can't really show much in the way of "why we're cutting off Qatar diplomatically" anyway, this canal simply looks like a tantrum where a bully didn't get his way. And tantrums rarely make sense.

As an Egyptian watching this video, I smiled when he mentioned the Suez Canal... France Identured 1.5 Million Egyptian (1/5 the male population) to work in digging the Canal in an inhumane conditions, leading to 125,000 Egyptian death... Then when the finally finished the hard work, the Canal was declared owned by Great Britain and France forever!! Until 1956 president Nasser declared the nationalization of the Suez Canal for our historical rights, and for the 125k who died digging it... The result was 3 great nations launched the war on us to retake the canal, Britain, France and Israel. We fought bravely despite being outnumbered and under-equipped until the cease fire was declared with the 3 aggressors accepting Egypt's hegemony over the canal.

Qatar and Saudi Arabia, are both rich and powerful, or, at least their royal families are !
they have unlimited resources and money and power.
me and you, as normal people, who work in a daily boring job to get a very small salary, i wonder why we concern ourselves with these kind of BIG issues ! we have nothing to do with it, if they decide to build the canal, we can't stop them !
we are supposed to deal with our personal day to day issues, like: traveling to a better country, finding a better job with a higher salary, just go to your kitchen right now, i am sure there is a tap that is dripping ! and it has been like that for months, why don't you fix that !
This is just my personal opinion, i hope no one is offended, my name is Omar, i am from Algeria.
i wish you the best, may your life never be the same !

The US has increased pressure on every nation to isolate Iran. Trump decided to sanction Iran not just for the US buy a policy that punishes any country that aids Iran and every nation must stop all trade with Iran or face consequences, richer nations won't be penalized as much as poorer countries who trade with Iran. Saudi Arabia would enjoy some form of brownie points for supprting Trumps demands against regional powers giving aid to Iran. The Saudi King is looking to repair image after the huge sandal after the Saudis tortured and killed the Saudi whistleblower
and writer/columist for the Washington post Jamal Khashoggi.
I suspect it's just an empty token threat against Qatar partly to look like they are supporting Trump policy against Iran.
After that Iranian General was killed in Iraq many regional powers want to appear compliant with the US policy of punishing anyone who aids Iran.

    • @ellusivegman
      @ellusivegman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

@Evilpimp literally not what he's saying. Do you know what a comparison is, sir? He's saying Qatar should strengthen relationships with Iran LIKE WHEN Iraq did it when we invaded that country. Not that we're literally invading Qatar right now.
I tell ya, there's always that one idiot who has to defend the US for no reason at all when no one's attacking it.

Hi TTK. Yet another really interesting video on another interesting subject. For me, at least, this whole story leaves a lot of questions about the political perspectives of the group of neighbours involved. It suggests Qatar is the bad guy to warrant such an extreme reaction, however, knowing politics and also neighbours, whether house to house or country to country, there are usually always two very extreme sides to the fundamental story and the subsequent choices and actions. It really makes me wonder what the entire truth really is? Irrespective, hell of an undertaking on Saudi Arabia's part, if it happens. Keep up the great work and looking forward to your next video.

    • @TicketToKnow

Thanks! It certainly does leave lots of questions, and with political stories like this I often feel like we don't 100% get the full story. That can mean making videos about politically hot topics can be really difficult - but I try to do the best with the best information I can find. Glad you enjoyed it 😀

Non sea-level canals only work if there's a steady supply of water to replenish the water lost to the functioning of the locks. In the case of the Panama canal, the Chagres river serves this purpose. But I don't know that there's a suitable water-source near the Saudi-Qater border to allow for a non sea-level canal.
