Glad you had fun, come on back sometime. :3 P.S. Un-Fun-Fact: The server lag we've discovered is being caused by people DDOSing LittleOrbit's game servers (specifically ABP) which are affecting all their games indiscriminately, including Fallen Earth. :(
Been an on and off FE player since 2012. One of the Little Orbit devs attributed it to antiquated server handling code which was custom made to work on older servers. Running it on newer machines introduced something akin to a memory leak that gradually builds during the course of the day which requires a reset every 24 hours to mitigate. It is one of the primary reasons they wanted to port to Unity, but because of lack of resources they decided to put their focus on APB for now. Shame, since FE is truly a unique gem amongst its peers.
It's crazy how much AAA companies invested in WoW clones and completely neglected games like this. A good post apocalyptic MMO could definitely carve itself a big niche in the market.
Former volunteer help channel helper member here, I played this game in and out for few years through its downfall. The game was going strong even when G1 transitioned it to f2p with rather annoying limitations (only one crafting slot, no character look customization) but then it went down crashing and burning when in their limitless wisdom added extreme pay-to-win weapons to the game (you had to craft them, but for full pay to winess you have to upgrade it two times with high chance to fail and cash shop item preventing failure) driving away most of pvp community and with them the end game. Then the cash shop item duping glitches crashing the economy and the final nail in the coffin was the update that added new zone, but for whatever reason it had severe memory leaks and was gradually causing lags you experienced (but shorter) requiring server restart 2 times a week. That update also added new weapons and armors with customizable damage types making them stronger than those p2w guns before adding another barrier to pvp, you simply had no chance with older max craft level armors and weapons rendering them practically obsolete. LO promised the remake running the classic server out of goodwill, but most of the players are rather sceptical with how slow it goes and especially when it was said they are going to use Unity engine for this that is not so great for multiplayer with a lot of player instances. Also funny story with the Steam achievements, since those were added the game was reworked like 3 or 4 times and a lot of achievements are impossible to get (using skills or visiting places that do not exist anymore).
Just posted above about the memory leaks. Wasn't aware it was when the new zone was added. I fell out for a long stretch after the player base became a bit too 'toxic'. This game, which can be challenging for non-English speakers, has something truly unique. It carries an old-school vibe and an atmosphere that's, in my opinion, unmatched. Or perhaps it is matche, by the classic Fallout games. Is it that sense of peaceful solitude, so perfect for contemplation, that emanates from the vast, desolate plains of the game's first map? It reminded me of Travis Henderson's journey in "Paris, Texas" or Vic’s in "A Boy and His Dog". Speaking of dogs, you can actually find one quite early in the game to accompany you on your travels, its sole purpose being to offer some companionship in this world that seems to be slowly dying under an unforgiving sun. Or maybe it’s the architectural and technological ruins you stumble upon during your journey, remnants of a civilization now doomed to oblivion? The game’s haunting ambient music sometimes evokes memories of Mark Morgan and Inon Zur’s work. It’s probably all of this combined that captivates those who are easily drawn into post-apocalyptic worlds. As for the crafting system, it's incredibly deep, allowing you to create anything with a bit of patience and persistence, be it weapons, clothing, armor, or vehicles. Personally, I’m not a natural-born crafter, but I experienced immense satisfaction when I crafted my very first vehicle, the basic ATV. The process was grueling, which only made it more valuable to me. Like the Orzhov syndicate in MTG. They make people indebted to them sign a contract that allows them to use them after death. They raise their corpse as a slave zombie and use their ghost for energy. And they control the entire economy in the plane of Ravnica so most poor people are indebted to them.

@@sawmanUK The dungeons are very unique as well as the solutions they offer. You should try to do a few definitely something different than most games, also its semi action combat
I actually tried this game when it launched. I didn't stay because I wanted to play solo (I wanted to play as a Mad Max type character) but the game was WAY too social. You couldn't do anything on your own. I remember thinking I was going to be able to build an ATV and get some weapons, you know have fun. Wrong, I don't remember if the ATV was just too impossible to make or there was no fuel for it even if you did manage to build one, or both. What I do remember was that it was clear that an ATV was never gonna happen lol. My character's name was Lord Hummungus or just Hummungus, can't remember now. I was really hyped for this game being a huge Mad Max fan, but it was nothing like what I was expecting. They swung the pendulum way to close to realism and way to far from fun I think.

Great video Sawman! @Smerknerb, if you want a surprisingly good free-to-play “mmo” with a bunch of players, I recently started playing Warframe, and my god, I’ve been sleeping on that game. Definitely suggest it while waiting for the tier list. I’d also suggest watching a tutorial video, cause the game is rather overwhelming at first.
Maybe not with Sawman, but it had a significant one when JoshStrifeHayes covered it, jumping from on average from 200 to 400 players online. Unfortunately it was when town instances started crashing and all of the population growth was wasted.

I’m not saying this at all to be a hater, but saying “the little known” and “legendary” within 2 seconds of each other gives off a very flimsy impression.
I’m going to finish the video, but that definitely caught my ear lol
I got into this game about a year ago, had a blast and the community was really cool. I wish there were more people into it, or maybe a sequel!
Seen some familiar names there in the chat, greetings, flap
these title changes are so fucking funny. how many iterations did you go through?
@@GardenshedElectronics listen , it’s very important if I put 2024 in the title or not , if I don’t , my nan might die
We got new Sawman video before GTA 6
Only just …
Hmm, what's this? Who does he think he is, Josh does it so much... Ahhhh. Subbed.
Most people including myself are in los alamos or either i other high level sectors. Also the problem with the game itself is that the engine fallen earth runs on is old as fuck if you played back in the day it had those issues as well with lagging stuttering even with whole sectors crashing. All in all im just waiting on the remake to be fair.
tell me why as i was enjoying this video i saw it only had 1.6k views... keep at it bro youre gonna blow up one day.
Being brought back to life by some corporation is my worst fear :o
Like the Orzhov syndicate in MTG. They make people indebted to them sign a contract that allows them to use them after death. They raise their corpse as a slave zombie and use their ghost for energy. And they control the entire economy in the plane of Ravnica so most poor people are indebted to them.
Once human reminds me so much of this game but for modern standards.
nice use of lena raine music :D love it
I've played so many MMORPGs over the decades and I never once heard of this. Been doing this since before 2009 lol.
Perfect World
RF Online
Tera Online
MU Online
All dead but they have non official servers. In RF online you had a ship that would transport you to a good farm location but the travel time was 30 minutes and you just had to stay inside the ship doing nothing with other players
After Josh Strife Hayes did a video on this game a few years ago, I checked it out and played for about 50 hours. Pretty fun, a great sense of progression once you get your mind around the difficulty and the controls. Too bad there aren't more than about a dozen people on at any given time. I know like FFXI nobody plays it anymore, but I still might go back to it.
It really depends on what server you're on for FF11.
Dozen is definitely an understatement. More like 3 to 4 dozen lol
Small difference but it matters
fallen earth was a bit confusing to get into but still really enjoyable
I played this game from launch to more or less its death. I know so much about this silly little game. Nice video I like seeing more people talk about it
I played this game years ago
tv show turned video game ?? nothing wrong with that statement at all
I remember riding a motorbike in this. Why did the mmos of that era have so much more substance than today. Everything is such a WoW clone now.
Sadly it's what apparently sells...
You need to try dungeons and dragons online, it has a dedicated community kind of a dead game by all standards but really fun gameplay and lots of builds
I played a couple of hours on stream a few months back , it has potential but I got distracted and stopped playing 🥹
@@sawmanUK The dungeons are very unique as well as the solutions they offer.
You should try to do a few definitely something different than most games, also its semi action combat
Try Haven & Hearth ... I'm sure you don't know it ...
Should try tibia
this channel is great! you get the monotonous voice of madseason with a british accent from josh strife hayes.
I'll take it
I loved this game!
Played this for a month or two when it came out. Could tell it wasn't really going anywhere. Interesting combat mechanics though.
I think it’s a shame as it’s got solid foundations in terms of plot and action. Maybe it was too Indy 🥹
i am gonna sub... just cause you played this for us so i didn't have to lol
this game is amazing. one of my first free to play games as a kid
good video btw the meme fits good bam bam bam
Can you swim in this game? is there any water?
Looks like there is an emulator for asherons call 2 ran thru daybreak? There is an idea for a vid
@@matthewkeating-od6rl Asheron call has been on my list for a while , I’m just trying to work up the courage to play it 😹
@@sawmanUK try asherons call TWO(2) think they have a new emulator version of it partially running. The first call is a whole different game and very dated.
Do you have any plans to make a best of free mmos video any time soon? I’ve seen all your review videos and I still can’t decide which old garbage I want to try
@@Smerknerb might do a tier list or something towards the end of the year. I guess the question is, what types of mmos do you like ?
Great video Sawman! @Smerknerb, if you want a surprisingly good free-to-play “mmo” with a bunch of players, I recently started playing Warframe, and my god, I’ve been sleeping on that game. Definitely suggest it while waiting for the tier list. I’d also suggest watching a tutorial video, cause the game is rather overwhelming at first.
Watched a old john strife video about this game last night…weird
this game only have 2 major problemas, server lag and non scaling ui.
better than new games , sadly
Do any of these games see a spike in players after these vids?
I doubt it , for I am very smol 🥲
Maybe not with Sawman, but it had a significant one when JoshStrifeHayes covered it, jumping from on average from 200 to 400 players online. Unfortunately it was when town instances started crashing and all of the population growth was wasted.
