What's the best Blanton's Bourbon?

  • Blanton's Bourbon Core Range Review. Blanton's Original, Blanton's Special Reserve, Blanton's Gold, and Blanton's Straight from the Barrel.

    #Blantons #BestBourbon #SippersSocialClub
    Scores:
After my initial score I add or subtract points relative on how I perceive value (based on what I paid for the bottle). A zero value means I think the price is justified.
0-69.5 - Don’t bother trying, life is too short for bad spirit.
70-79.5 - Worth trying, but you’re not missing out if you don’t.
    80-84.5 - I recommend trying.
    85-87.5 - Definitely try this!
    88-92.5 - I recommend buying a bottle blind!
93-95.5 - Stuff you reserve for special pours!
96+ - The meaning of life.

I really like the format of your reviews and these “all lines from a single distillery” videos in particular. I picked up a Blanton’s original off the shelf in the San Francisco Bay Area this evening for $65 USD. It’s the only version I’ve had before and while I like it at $60-$70 I wouldn’t want to pay much more.

Great review as always, but can’t say I agree with the low score for the original. I think the tobacco note really makes it unique. It’s top quality stuff for $65. Cheers.

Great review and I still appreciate your value points. Luckily for me The Blanton's Straight From The Barrel is easily found in the U.K. It does change from batch to batch, of course, but is always excellent and pretty good value at £65-80. I'd pay the extra for for it and not bother with the others. It's in the same ball park as Stagg Jnr or ECBP so I wouldn't go crazy paying daft money my friends across the pond. It's the only bourbon deal we get over here. We pay considerably more for bourbon and rye. Cheers Jeremy. WT

Great reviews! But unfortunately you are missing the “black” and “red” varieties from Japan. Black is the green 80 proof with about two more years in the barrel. I didn’t like it. The red is the same as the “regular” 93 proof Blanton’s and is aged about two more years in the barrel. It’s amazing and my personal favorite over even the gold or SFTB. Unfortunately both are nearly impossible to find in the USA on the secondhand market. You need to mule it back from Japan or have a friend do it!

Their basic bottle is over $150 US now. A few years ago it was around $80 US. It was worth it all day at $80 not so much at $150. I really like it but for $150 I can't justify it.

The allocation of Blanton's is all over the place. Here in Toronto we get large shipments once and a while. (See my video Toronto's Largest Liquor Store) $65cad ($45usd) I wouldn't pay anymore than that. Blanton's is one of the most overrated and overhyped Buffalo Trace product in my opinion. Maybe Elmer T. Lee also.

No it is not, you're seeing markup at those stores. Retail is still ~$60, I literally just got a Blanton's Store Pick for $70 yesterday, their non SP was $62.

Blanton's bourbon is way over rated, and not worth half the price that some people are dumb enough to pay for it 🥴

@@piamazonian3415 he doesn't get it so why you leave him alone. Who will tell him that comparing a lower proof whiskey to higher proof ones is comparing Apple Juice to Apple Pulp. Let him be, he clearly knows little.
