Have you entered our Fx6 Giveaway?? Also should be bring more Lewis onto this channel? Do you want to see some more of his edit breakdowns & timelines?
Thanks for reminding me!! I almost forgot to enter 😬. I never win these things but as Michael Scott once said, “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take - Wayne Gretzky”
One thing that helps me get through the process when its getting hard is to edit one scene, one sequence that I like, without thinking about its place in the overall project. The overall must come in play at some point, but sometimes doing something that feels like a victory opens up some mental doors. To me its really to be able to find a balance between broad strokes and specific things. And getting organized is the first underrated step (even in simple projects) in stopping to try to cram all the footage through a single door at the start.
the biggest tip for any editor is too switch off all social media & stay focused on the job & don't let anything else distract you from the job in hand
I f***ing love Lewis. The man has single-handedly changed how I edit just through these videos and Module 2. Sooner or later I will be hurling my wallet at my laptop for the Perfect Cut….if only to have this BAMF monologue at me across several dozen videos.
The way Lewis edits has literally been the best things I've learned and saver me SO many hours of editing. I used to be so unorganized and it truly will make or break a project. Lewis is the man!!!! Sorry Mark :) You cool too.
Thank you for this video, making decisions that improve the vision will make videos so much better. Thank you so much Lewis for sharing these great tips
I am just an amateur making silly content for myself and TH-cam but I still get much good advice and pleasure from you videos, Mark. been taking photos for 60+ years and video since 1989.
This is so helpful for me! I have sometimes these ,what feels massive docs, i shoot and sometimes I get so stuck on how to tell the story. This is super helpful!
Great tips, thank you so much guys. I'm currently in the process of editing a short film and you've just inspired me to cut an entire scene. Wish me luck bringing this change to the director!
I have a hate love relationship with editing because of how frustrating it can get when you overwhelm yourself with all the possible ways the edit can go. Nice tips!
This is exactly what my timeline and foldering looks like, the Marker is very useful. And also you can add note into it. Premiere Pro is still the best NLE, wish it has a Dr color gradit capabilities
I've been a professional editor for 15 years... in this time I've heard A LOT of these tips and I have to say, MOST of them are limited on how they're really applicable in the real world. Most of them focus on narrative and storytelling, which is a work niche. Nothing wrong with the tips, but most of us won't edit this kind of stuff on a daily basis. So in my opinion, the most valuable and maybe only lesson that applies equally to all kind of editors is the first one in the video: BE ORGANISED. I can't stress that enough. BE OCD FREAKY with your files and your timelines. Seriously, you can't be organised enough.
Yes indeed! Full certification. The course needs to be completed and a project needs to be submitted that you’ve shot since joining and we evaluate it with a pass or fail for the certification
" Why do I make videos? " Well if you ask TH-cam, Rene will say I'm trying to sabotage their platform with my disasterpieces. I would like to think I do it for fun! ( Cheer up TH-cam....one of these days I'm bound to make a good one..........just don't hold your breath ).

These tips are good as I’m editing my doc right now. Very well timed lol
I sometimes think I know Premiere in and out but then I watch a tip on TH-cam and it humbles me 😂 tip #3 is a hidden gem 🫡
Practical, actionable, grounded advice. Awesome stuff. I'm a software engineer by trade and really agree with the "learn your tools" sentiment.
So great to see the Best Ed, Lewis again. Love the Harlequin/Jester jacket!

I've been saying this for years about "chaotic" timelines. I feel validated now. Using my mouse is sometimes the only workout I get.

I have such a hard time keeping the story going in the edits.
But...I have fun.
....speaking of fun.....tHanks for a great video!

Hi, I got a question about the Cinematic Eye module. Does it also has the possibility of certification, like the other modules? :)
Yes indeed! Full certification. The course needs to be completed and a project needs to be submitted that you’ve shot since joining and we evaluate it with a pass or fail for the certification
@@markbone Thanks for the reply! I've already been decided to enroll when the door opens, and that makes it even better :)
To address tip one… have you considered that a messy timeline looks impressive on Instagram? Hmmm?
This is funny
