  • This tutorial provides information about the VOTj plugins (Virtual Orientation Tool), which can be used to center and align an object in images to a vertical or horizontal orientation.
To obtain the plugins in Fiji, you need to activate the VOTj update site.
If you use these plugins, please cite the associated publication.

Thanks! Fiji is one of my most commonly used programs. Always good to learn something new about it

Seems to be a good tool, but! Why are you creating a double sized image when rotating? You are basically wasting a lot of ressources in this approach which might be an issue when dealing with larger images on batch processing.
One could think of having a method which determines the largest possible amount of pixels based on the input image and then creating a much smaller image. If you have a 512*512 pixel image you would enlarge to 1024*1024. This will double the size of your data. With some math we can calculate the largest diagonal of an image which for the given numbers would be 725 pixels.
One also could think of a "more clever" approach which will determine the amount of pixels needed in the new image based on the angle of the final rotation.
    Or am I missing something?

Hi there, thank you for your response. Essentially, there is an option within this tool that allows you to enlarge your image without losing the surrounding data after orienting the image. You also have the choice to not enlarge the image and keep it the same size.
