We've only been here 5 months and already moving things from where we first put them! This idea will help save us a lot of time, energy and money. Thanks for shaing!!
I recommend checking with your County GIS department. Chances are you can access an interactive GIS map on their website that uses recent aerial photography. The map also would show things like property lines and flood zones. The software on the website will allow you to measure distances and areas. It's incredibly handy. I've been using it to plan fencing for my pasture.
huise006 that’s what I did.. using GIS from your county..also if you have survey map of your boundary including the location of your house, you can use that too..
Kyle could you contact me on how to use this softwware, I just bought property and I need to tap some springs and utilize some ground water data as well. I dont know how to extract the data from the GIS site. Rick
Great videos. I like them all. Here's a whiteboard tip that will save you big time. If you purchase "tile board" at your hardware store it works just like a whiteboard. They will run like $10-$15 for a 4x8 sheet! Add some a scrap wood frame and you have a great homestead whiteboard :)
In the military I used white boards like crazy also. I have since gotten away from them but I do believe they are going to make a come back. Just to easy to do layouts and figure out how proper positioning of equipment and everything else.
Just start with a google map image of your property. Transfer it to your media and boom! You're ready to mark it and play around. Print the image onto a standard sheet of paper, trace major features, copy that onto a bunch of sheets and start playing with different manifestations. Or, if you have a image processing program, use it. Paper is cheap, electrons are cheaper.
I'd love to do this with our property! It would be so easy to mark where I really want all the pastures, etc. Right now, we currently have to guess where our top property line is. Google shows the property line a bit off...according to it our greenhouse is on the property line but the one marker we have is at least 50 feet away from that greenhouse.
We have 1 whiteboard that has been extremely helpful getting our children to do their stations. My boys claim they do more than any other kids. Just wait until we go on the homestead one day. I'd post a pic but no option.
I do that but instead I place plastic wrap on the ipad screen and draw the grid on the plastic so I know how to translate that when I draw it on the dry erase board.

We used to do this method to draw album covers as kids. A grid on the cassette cover (showing my age!) and a grid on poster paper. Worked a treat.

Awesome tip! Game Changer!
How come I didn't think of this. I usually just estimate where everything is and decide what I have room to plant in my garden.

Why not use the simple tool namely paint on your pc :p
Can you use graphing paper instead of a big white board?
I keep several notebooks for different projects,
Could this be done with a cad program. My husband used one to help him build a playset.
$80 for a white board!?
I didn’t know whiteboards that big cams that cheap either
I want to know how you got Amazon to contribute to your business
By becoming an Affiliate of Amazon.
