  • Well....this was different. :)
    I keep finding these RC Drift Rescue opportunities....but this one was a little odd. It only had 3 wheels!
    This is an Usukani D3T Drift Tricycle: www.avantlink....
    As it came to me, the owner said that he just couldn't get it to drift.
    In this video, I fix 3 major issues it had to get it back on the road!
    Components used:

    I'm getting one for Christmas. I told my GF to order it. I am going to paint it to look like the Mystery Machine and I got the stickers from some guy in the UK. Sweet!

    That front fork looks backwards to me definitely. The two trees go forward and that will kick the front wheel out forward more and the wheel hub will be forward of the center hub where the fork mounts to the chassis. This is what makes hikes and motorcycles automatically center the steering when the bike is balanced. You definitely got it to work great but im almost certain that if you turn the fork around you will get an even better result

      6:20 you can tell that he tried it.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did try it both ways. The factory setup suggests it this way.
      When the forks were rotated, the mounting points were wrong for the geometry. Perhaps if I took the thing all the way apart and was able to reassemble backwards, it might work.

    • @gabrielpichardo1492
      @gabrielpichardo1492 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RoadsideRC thats strange. If you look at any motorcycle or bike the forks are definitely the other way around. I guess you would need longer rod thingamajiggers to make it work the other way around.

    I have one too and have found it tricky to get it to drift consistently. I have found putting more rake on the forks does help.
    I have got to try your switch trick of a pulling rather than a pushing steering system. Looks like it will make it more predictable. Cheers a bunch for this video.

  • @Thunder-xo1cx
    @Thunder-xo1cx ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice video ,the steering is a problem for sure, you can also install some springs on both sides of the steering Rod and get almost 90 degree steering angle

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Springs on both sides could also make sense! Good tip!

      @@RoadsideRC found the vid I watched a while ago , those things look like great fun, it's probably like every RC it takes a bit of tinkering around with it and also pending on everyone's liking and driving style.
      I know from drifting and crawling you take you're Buddy's vehicle and wonder how they drive it lol.

    Hmm. Maybe I should bring my SC10GT over one day. I'm not trying to drift with it but it's VERY spicy when I lean into the OS 18CV-RX. Last time I put a gyro on it the truck was completely undriveable; either it chattered itself all around or the steering just didn't work at all because the gyro wasn't allowing my inputs to get to the front tires. Kinda scary not having positive steering control over a 40+MPH short course truck, so the gyro got ripped back out and yeeted. I'd rather have to deal with babying the throttle than having a truck that won't steer when I tell it to, yanno?
    Have a sub-0.1s Savox servo up front that's got more than enough torque for the application.
    Truck drives GREAT on grippier surfaces, but get it on loose dirt and it's almost uncontrollable at anything >1/4th throttle.
    Might make a neat video, too, having some nitro fun on here! And hey if we can get it to do shallow drifts/powerslides all the better! Look and sound AWESOME being able to hang the back end out a bit.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe you should get into racing? Nitro buggy is really popular at RC Farm!

    • @TestECull
      @TestECull ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RoadsideRC I'm not a competitive person. Tried it before, fun to drive on a track but not something I wanna get super competitively into. If I did, I have a Tekno NB48 2.0 I could run out there! Would have to change engines though; I put an OS 30VG in that thing which makes it an absolute hoot to drive but the fuel economy is terrible and it's entirely too big for any rule book hahahaha

    What aspects of the RC hobby you like the most? Drifting, crawling, bashing, drones, ect?

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm. I would narrow it down to drifting and crawling. I get tired of break-fix-repeat cycle in bashing, and don't quite have enough time to devote to get serious enough about racing.

  • @steveyates1098
    @steveyates1098 ปีที่แล้ว

    Brilliant I'm learning alot from these drift rescues . Just a quick thought if you spin the forks through 180 Deg would it gain more steering angle as it would push wheel forward and increase the wheel base making it less twitchy ?

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried that (off camera). It still worked, but the link geometry was wrong based on where they mounted.
      I was with you though!!!

  • @maximumrpm1868
    @maximumrpm1868 ปีที่แล้ว

    One thing that I would have tried would have been to rake the whole steering angle back like what you said it could do. And my reasoning behind that is my dad's motorcycle has a very short rake so it makes it very flickable in the corners however higher speeds it has issues with stability. That rake is pretty much straight-up-and-down which means it's not going to be as stable going slow Or in the corners I would have raked it back just a touch And see if that word of made a little bit easier handling. Of course on again with An extra wheel behind I'm not exactly sure what that would do

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did actually try that.
      Cut that section from the video, as it was getting quite long already.
      Since there is no lean to the trike, it resulted in very little contact patch as it turns. I am honestly not sure when/why it would be used for this design.

    • @maximumrpm1868
      @maximumrpm1868 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RoadsideRC I could see that being useful if for some odd reason you wanted to make a high speed thing because that amount of break would actually help. It obviously doesn't translate exactly the same but under my old 300 was all over the place while my new 650 is much more controlled because it has more rake to it. Either way it's a really interesting design kit
